While I was listening to my IPod on the way back from visiting my sister, brother-in-law, 2 nephews and niece I've noticed at how much my music taste has changed in the last year. I've grown up around rock/alternative since that's my mom's style of music (and now mine). Last year I was listening to whatever was "in" or popular. When people would ask me what my favorite type of music was, I would say Pop. In a way I was embarrassed. While I was listening to Smile by Lily Allen I now really knew why I've never been a giant fan of Pop. I've been reading Slash's autobiography titled Slash (what else?) He talked about how he had really listened one day to an Aerosmith song and for some reason the guitar really stood out and had a different sound. (I really don't feel like getting into it) but I've noticed that I listen to the guitar, bass, or drums more than I listen to the singer at times. I know all of the songs on my IPod by heart and whether I'm listening to the guitar or drums I can pick out what the beat is. While I was listening to Smile I was trying to do that, but there was no stand-out-ish guitar part, it was too computerized. So instead I picked out the drums. It was a bit boring, the drums were just too simple. I tried concentrating on Lily's voice but for some reason this time I just couldn't.
