Kristina Reed woke up to the most peculiar surrounding. Where she was, she didn’t know. Who those voices belonged to, she couldn’t imagine. Why she was attack, was beyond her. She grabbed her head in a unsuccessful attempt to smother the absolute unbearable pain, she had a splitting headache and her mouth was coated in dry bile, she coughed in a feeble attempt to breath.
“Go get her some water,” a boy said, it sounded like he right beside her. She opened her eyes in anticipate horror. The light from outside was enough to send her into a fit of wails and cries.
“It’s okay, close the blinds someone,” the boy firmly grabbed her shoulders, which sent her into spasm of kicks and screams. Despite her headache she flung herself up into the sitting position and scooted across the room, as far from the boy who was attempting to comfort her as she could get. The boy understandingly shook his head and wait for her to calm down, but she was no where close to calming down.
“Stay away from me,” she screamed, she could only see the one boy in the room, but soon too more entered, staring at her as if she was a wild animal. The former ignored this companions and pleaded her to trust him.
“Where am I? What did you guys do to me? Just leave me alone,” her shrill voice bounced of the walls of the room. She was seething with anger, her thoughts were muddled and despite her courageous façade she was scared out of her mind, shaking like a leaf and frozen with her back against the wall.
Calming the boy explained all he knew, “ None of us know were we are, and all we did was carry you in from outside, where you were apparently discarded and left behind. You’re in the same situation as we are.”
“What’s the last thing you remember?” The buffer of the two boys who made their entrance earlier asked.
“ I was out running last night, or whenever, when I paused to rest I heard footsteps but paid no mind and continued to run, this man grabbed me and stuck me with something, then everything blacked out, the very last thing I remember was being carried.”
“ I hope you’re the last one,” the boy that was by her side when she woke whispered and shook his head. Kristina gave him a confused look and he explained. She was the sixth person to be left behind, including himself, by whom is still unknown.
Kristina accepted his account of events but never let her guard down, she didn’t trust anyone, therefore she sat as far from them as possible. Among themselves they weren’t even very gregarious, they stared straight ahead, no one making more conversation then needed.
Kristina nonchalantly studied everyone in turn. First was a the girl on her left. She nervously twirled long strands of her blonde hair, her blue-eyed gaze never settled upon a single object for more than a second or two. To keep her idle hand busy she messed with the locket around her neck, sliding it from one side of her neck to the other then back again. She crewed her thin pink lip, almost to the point it was about to bleed.
To the left of the first girl was another girl, clad completely in black. She stared straight ahead in a never-ending glare. She gnawed at the already short black nails on her right and scratched an imaginary itch that was dancing across body. At first her scratching was softly across her neck and along her collarbone, but soon she was scratching her forearms, the itch advanced to her stomach, as time passed her lightly scratching turned into vicious scratching that in a normal situation would be chastised as inappropriate, but now no would paid any mind. Finally she stopped, though it was clear her itch wasn’t satisfied and she wiggled around in her seat, trying her best to ignore the itch spreading across her entire body.
Next to her was a boy, he looked around in a happy-go-lucky manner, without any suspicions and without accusations or blame. He had a tad bit of a smile and made sure never to look really at anyone or make eye contact. He tapped his foot, unnoticeably because the carpet absorbed the sound. Despite his friendly and generally pleasant façade he had a menacing look, more than likely one that could me mistaken for reassuring.
To the left of the first boy was a second one, the buff masculine boy from before. He sat absolutely still, leaving his wide shoulders in what looked like a never ending shrug, he had a pain look, like he was holding his breath. He cracked his knuckles occasionally then went back to sitting still. He took deep angry sounding breathes through his nose, keeping his mouth in an unpleasant straight line.
The last boy, to the right of Kristina kept running his hands through his dyed black hair, and was visibly biting the inside of his mouth. When his hands weren’t in his hair they were drumming silently against his thighs. Every now and then he would cough loudly and murmured an apology.
The group of six nervous teenagers sat and waited, for exactly what wasn’t known, maybe they were waiting for an explanation, maybe their demise.
Suddenly there was a hard knocking sound, no one was sure where it was coming from, so they sat and looked around. The knocking got louder and harder and quicker, no one moved, everyone’s heartbeat picked up the pattern of the knocking, louder and hard against their chests, pounding in their ears. Finally the knocking stopped, everyone waited. The person knocking finally just let themselves in.
“Hello,” a very panache looking man entered the room, he had slicked back jet black hair and an overly happy pair of steel blue eyes that smiled even though his mouth was pull taut into a smile that was forced. He entered the room, not receiving the pleasant greetings he assumed he would, instead he got six very unpleasant glares and hateful looks, his forced smile turned genuine and grew twice its original fake size.
“I’m very much shocked that you’re still sitting here and not looking around, staking claims and feverishly chatting like teenagers. Instead you sit around and look like your about to kill each other,” the man walked into the center of the room and look at them each in turn.
