VAMPIRE PRISON
“Did you see that new kid?” Heather asked her best friend, Alice as they were walking to their lunch table. They glanced over to the boy sitting alone at the table in the corner of the cafeteria. He was wearing dark jeans and a black hoodie, you could barely see his eyes under his hood, and his hair was covering one of them. His face was pale and emotionless. “I heard his name is Brian.” Heather continued, “He never says anything! And he’s always by himself. He kind of creeps me out.”
Alice stared back at Brian. “Maybe he’s just shy, and it’s his first day. I’m sure he’ll have some friends by the end of the week.”
A week later, Alice saw that Brian was the same as he’d been on his first day. “Look at him, he’s still by himself.” Heather said. Alice stood up and started to walk away. “Where are you going?” asked Heather. “I’m going to talk to him.” Alice replied.
Alice walked over to the corner of the cafeteria, where Brian was sitting. She sat next to him. “Hi, I’m Alice.” He looked at her. A blue baby tee, skinny jeans, and a pink purse. Not the kind of person he imagined himself talking to. “Brian’s your name, isn’t it?” He nodded. He was listening to his ipod. Alice tried not to wince at the metal/screamo he was listening to.
Suddenly a gasp escaped Brian’s mouth. He’d just seen Alice’s eyes turn red. “Vampire.” He whispered right after his gasp. Alice stared at him in confusion,
“What?”
“I just saw your eyes turn red.”
“Oh, that’s just my contacts, they’re messed up.”
He stared at her in doubt. Alice was surprised. Most people couldn’t see past her superior acting skills.
Alice started to studder something. Brian was deep in thought, then he whispered “I’m a vampire too.” Alice was shocked. She didn’t think she’d ever meet another vampire at their school. Alice left soon after. She needed time to take that in. Someone knew her secret, and she knew his.
The next day, Alice talked to Brian again. “Why are you so alone all the time?”
“I can’t risk my secret getting out.”
“That doesn’t mean you have to block everyone out!”
“It dose to me.”
Alice couldn’t take this. She knew he wouldn’t end up well if he thought this way. “I need to show you something later.” She said. Those where her last words until the end of the day.
Alice was saying bye to some of her friends, before she called Brian. He was walking home.
“What?” he asked
“I said I have to show you something.”
“Right now?”
“Well, I don’t think you have anything better to do.”
Brian started to walk away. “Wait, I didn’t mean for that to be offensive!”, Alice yelled. She ran over and started pulling his arm in the opposite direction. Brian could see that she was persistent. He decided to follow her.
Alice lead him to her house. “Hi daddy!” She greeted her father as they walked into the house. “This must be your friend Brian.” He said. Brian was going to object to that, but then he noticed he was standing in a house full of vampires. “I’m going to show Brian the prison.” Alice said. Before Brian could ask, she was tugging him into the basement.
They were in s secret underground prison. ”Why’d you bring me here?” Brian asked. “This is where crazy vampires end up.” Alice replied. Brian still looked puzzled. Alice continued, “These are vampires that cut themselves off from the human world. It lead them to insanity. My family, and the other vampire families on this block catch these vampires and bring them here.”
They were walking by the prison cells. “This doesn’t answer my question.” Brian said. Alice started again, “This is where you’ll end up if you don’t make any friends.” Brian was about to say something, but Alice cut him off. “If you don’t get used to being around humans, your craving for blood will become uncontrollable.-”
“Let me out! Please! I can’t stand to be in here any longer!” Alice was interrupted by one of the prisoners. This was Damian, one of the more recent prisoners. He was pushing his arms out of the bars, trying to claw at Alice and Brian. “I know I’ll get out of here someday!” Damian said. “You always say that.” Alice said playfully. Damian mumbled something and then started laughing deliriously. Damian’s interruption caused Brian to snap out of his deep thinking at Alice’s words. He looked around. The prison was so dark, there wasn’t any light, he and Alice were using a flashlight. The prisoners looked so weak and hopeless. The way Damian acted seemed pathetic. “Your right.” Brian said, “I don’t want to end up here. I don’t want to lose my humanity.” Alice was glad to see that he understood. “That’s exactly why I brought you here, I’m not letting you become one of the prisoners.”
Over the next month, Alice got Brian to befriend all her friends, and he made some friends of his own. He seemed just as normal, and human as anyone else.
Brian was invited to Alice’s house one day. When he walked into the house, all his friends jumped up and yelled “Surprise! Happy Birthday Brian!” He wasn’t too surprised, he knew Alice would of found this information somewhere. Brian was happy to see all his friends. He felt like he’d never be alone anymore.
Brian walked by the door to the prison. He saw that it was open. “There’s a place I’m never going to be in.” He said as he closed the door.
