Chapter 3
Fonce' walked to school trying to figure out what his day would be like. His classes would change for today and there was only two days until prom.
He walked into the gym doors where everyone sat, waiting to be dismissed for class. Stephany came running up to him. "Hey Foncé!" She kept turning and twisting her hair, remembering that he called it beautiful. This was the only way she knew how to impress him. "I know it's kinda short notice an' all, but... you wanna go to prom with me?" She did her corny smile. Foncé thought; 'she is kind of cute... No! What's the point of prom?! She would never like me, only show off or something... if there was anything to show. Just say no!!! "Yes? I mean.. sure." s**t... "Okay! I'll just meet you in the parking lot at 7:00!" She skipped away. Foncé shook his head and walked to an empty space on the bleachers. Sha-mule walked up, wearing the same green and black striped jacket with his long dark black hair tied back with a long green ribbon. "Ain't that the girl who pissed you off yesterday?"
Foncé looked around- he knew he screwed up and he certainly didn't want to talk about it. "She asked aout the prom... didn't she?" His voice was calm, but as dark and sincre as ever.
"I have trouble saying no..." Fonce' looked down. "I know I shouldn't have said yes, but..." The wistle blew and everyone got up to leave.
Foncé was heading to geometry, his least favorite class. Stephany caught up with him with Anne and a dirty blond haired girl wearing a red sweater. "I'm soooo excited about prom! Aren't you, Foncé!? She said his name clearly as if trying to prove that is was really him. The other two girls leaned in to hear his answer. 'I could care less.'
"Yeah, sure" He replied the opposite of what he was really thinking. Her clonies giggled. Stephany looked at him. "Hmmmm... I think you could clean up well if.." she reached for his bangs covering his scar.."if you comb this little bit or hair.. out of the.. like th-" Foncé grabbed her hand thinking about what she would say as soon as she saw the scar. "Don't! Sorry.. I just.. happen to like my hair there.. than- gotta go." He took off down the hall knowing he would regret this. He looked at his schedule telling him what room and what teacher taught the class. Mrs. Vapormen was her name. Foncé folded teh paper and placed it in his pocket. He was only a couple doors away when he noticed Stephany comming in the other direction.. she turned into his class. "Oh hell.." He knew he had it comming soon. Maybe she would ignore him! Foncé bit his lip as he walked in.
Strangely, Stephany was talking to Sah-mule. Neither of them noticed Foncé walking up to them. Sah-mule's mouth was opened agape in a disbelieving (and probley fake) smile as Stephany excitedly spoke. "I felt like I should talk to one of his friends! But, OMG!!! We're going to prom together an' he's sooo cu-"
"Oh My Gawwwddd!!!!! Like.. i really don't care!" Sah-mule had cut her off; his false smile quickly turned into a glare. He wasn't ever smileing.. it was only a shot for sarcasum. "Huh!?? GRAaaaaaugh!" Stephany stamped her foot and walked away steaming. "Hey! Look who else is in this hell hole..heh." Sah-mule finally noticed Foncé. He smirked. "Hey, you want to... hang out.. at my place- this- weekend?" Foncé figured if he wanted to survive at this school, he would need a friend. "Dont' you got prom?" Sah-mule arvhed a brow. Foncé shruged and sarted to walk away. "Fince, I'll come over, but first you should stop by my place." Sah-mule's expression looked so much more relaxed with a smirk on his face.
"Okay, I can do that. Just tell me when to come over." Foncé couldn't believe he had been invited to someone's house. "Today, after school." Sah-mule replied.
Mrs. Vapormen placed the warm-up on the bored.

Class went by quickly along with biology, his second period class. Foncé was so excited about being with someone other than his father. Everything went by in a rush. Even sitting with Stephany at lunch. He even ignored her when she wanted to hug him. Okay... that one was on purpose.
He stared at the clock in fourth period. 2:29 p.m. One minute until the class would be dismised. He anxiously tapped his pencil on the desk. Teh bell rung and he quickly left the room.
Out side of his class was Sah-mule, waiting. "Ready to leave?" Foncé nodded and they headed towards the doors. "So, why did you wnat to stop at your house first?" He noticed that they would be walking to Sah-mule's house for a bit. "Gotta tell my parents, get my stuff.. you know." His house wasn't as far as Foncé thought. They were walking up the drive way with in five minutes. As soon as hey stepped in to the door way; a woman was staring at Foncé. "Oh.. I see you've brought abother.. friend home.." Seh attempted a smile. "Is he a pervert?"
"Mom.."
"An alcoholic!?"
Mom!!"
"Oh my GOD! His hair is white! Is he a crack head!!?? Or-"
"MOM!!!" Sah-mule yelled. "This is Foncé, he's the new french kid." he motioned Foncé to his room down the hall.
"French guys can be drugattic alcoholic perverts too!!" She called after them. Sah-mule closed the door and turned on the lights. He walked over to his closet and started packing. Foncé wondered why Sah-mule hated prom, but decided to talk around that. "Why don't you come to prom? I'm sure there's someone out there who wants to go with you." Sah-mule paused in his packing. "They've already have been asked." He quickly took a knife off of his dresser; slipping it into his suit case. He closed the bag and locked it. "Oh.. when did she get taken- or asked?" Foncé felt he was getting at a hidden soft spot in Sah-mule. "They were asked, this morning. Doesn't matter... I don't think we'd be on the same page..." Sah-mule picked up his suit case and headed towards the door. "So, you still won't come?" Foncé stood to leave. "Nope." He opened the door to see his mother standing there. "Were you - easdropping!?" He looked over his shoulder at Foncé as if this should be no surprise. "No!!!.. the last time I left you alone with a friend you got that abomination pierced on your lip!" She looked at Foncé again. "Is he a gang-banger!? Or just emo!?"
Foncé had nothing to hide, but he wanted to. Sah-mule was now frustrated with his mother. "Go whatch K-pop or something! I'll be back tomorrow." She hugged him and let them pass. "No tatoos!"
"MOM!!!" Tehy took off out the door.
"Where are we going?" Sah-mule ran his fingers through his hair. Foncé looked at the street they were leaveing. "Not far." He replied.

Sah-mule was sitting on Foncé's bed looking around his room. "Nice.. room.. very er.. roomy.." He said slightly nodding. Foncé's room was not like most teenage boys' rooms; filled with posters, sport items or car models. His room only had a single bed, a closet, a rickety nightstand and a small stuffed puppy on his bed that his mother had made him. Sah-mule picked it up. "You still sleep Mr. Teddy-weddy?! Awwwwww." He laughed. Foncé snatched it away. "Hey! It's specail! My.. mother made it for me." he held the puppy close to his chest; it reminded Sah-mule of a cute school girl. "Speaking of your parents, where are they?" Sah-mule glanced at the puppy smirking. "Eh.. my dad is at work." Which reminded Foncé that he needed to attempt something if he wanted a peaceful night. "Ahh.. no mom? That's why the puppy is special?" He looked down and scratched his chin. "Yeah... wait here, I'll be back in a minute."
Foncé rushed out of the room and down the stairs into the kitchen. he layed his jacket down and placed all fo the beer and alcohol he could fit in it. Where to put it all!!!??? The fridge wasn't empty, but enough was gone to keep his father sober or tame. Foncé dumped the alcohol out the window into a bush and quickly put his jacket back on. He went back to his room where Sah-mule was waiting. "Okay, I'm done." Foncé closed the door behind him. Sah-mule jumped throwing a magazine back into his suit case. Foncé didn't really see what is was, but there was bold print at the top spelling 'SEVE-.'
"Was that .. a SEVEN TEEN magazine?" Foncé pointed to the case. "Hmmmmm? Why would I have that girly crap?" He looked out the window. 'Zut, he's good..'
A pair of headlights were comming up the driveway. "My father is home. We have to stay quiet." Foncé sat away from the door. "What's he gonna do? Rape us?" Sah-mule laughed, but Foncé jumped up glaring at Sah-mule. His face was pale and his eyes were solid gray. Death flickered apon his stare. "Fine. Sorry, won't insult him again." Foncé didn't care about him being insulted, but how close Sah-mule was to the truth...
