I felt myself hit the tiled floor. I coughed up some blood, and then got up on my feet.
“Akkere, there you are, did you see him? Did you see the devil?” I knew that voice, it was Rakias’.
“Yes I saw the Devil, mind telling me what the hell that was all about?!” I was angry, at Rakias for not telling me what the crystal was, at the crystal itself, and at all this mystery. I saw Rakias noticed my anger and he backed up a few steps.
“Akkere, I know I should’ve told you but if I did then you wouldn’t have came in contact with the crystal. Can’t you understand that?” These words just ignited my anger even more; I felt as though I could strike him a single punch and I wouldn’t care.
“I can’t, I can’t understand because I’m angry at you for lying to me, for not telling me what the hell that crystal was and just carelessly sending me out onto the plane of hell itself and made me face the devil himself without even telling me a single detail. And I come back here coughing up blood, mind filled with rage and you go talking me about understanding?” I clenched my fists; it was very tough to hold back even a single punch. Rakias saw this and started backing up even more. I felt the fear, he knew I was infused with the Devil’s powers, and I think that was probably why I was so angry.
“I’m sorry, but I also see you now have the Devil’s powers, now what are you going to do with them?” Rakias said staring at me with curiosity. I couldn’t be any angrier with that statement being. But I couldn’t hold it back. I slammed my fist on the bar counter.
CRACK! A large dent was left in the wooden counter and my hand stinged with pain. Rakias then knew he went too far and backed up even more until he hit the wall.
“I know what you want me to use the powers for and I think your pushing your luck way too far Rakias, I demand that I get some answers NOW!” As I yelled it felt as if the place had shaken.
“Very well then, what do you wish to discuss?” Rakias sat down in a wooden chair.
“I want to know why me, why was I the one who had to have the devil’s powers and not you,”
“I couldn’t, apparently when I came in contact with the crystal only humans were allowed to have the abilities of the devil for some reason. I chose you because I thought you would be more trustworthy with the powers than any other human I know or have already met and I do think that you have earned these powers.” I was a little calm now as I got the answer, but it wasn’t quite what I had hoped for.
“Why did you keep the crystal instead of leaving it at its tomb?” I asked
“Because I was afraid someone else would get to it and they would have caused destruction, these are dark times Akkere and we are already in the middle of a big war. I had a rival who was trying to find that same crystal and I read the myth about it and I know what those powers are and I know that I couldn’t let my rival have it.” Everything was starting to make sense now but there were still a lot of questions but there was one important one.
“Why do you want me to join the military and fight?”
“Because, I believe that if you truly are the most trustworthy with the crystal and that these are the dark times to use then I believe that you should go and fight alongside and defeat the factions.” This all seemed like something from a stupid myth book. Basically Rakias was telling me I was like some sort of chosen one. I didn’t like it because I hated that fact.
“Fine, I guess I have no other choice, but if I ever do come back alive from this you will owe me big.” After that last sentence I left the room and packed by bags. I put on my long coat but then I took a quick look in the mirror.
“No way” I saw that my appearance had changed. My hair went from a black to red and my eyes were red but were turning to teal again. I didn’t believe it but I thought it was probably from the devil’s crystal. Right before I left I felt something in my back pocket. I pulled it out and saw that it was actually a guide book to the devil’s crystal and everything I needed to know about it.
HONK, HONK! “It was the recruitment truck, it usually comes and takes those who had enlisted to the closest HQ. I put everything else I needed in my bag and walked out the door only to be stopped by Rakias who was trying to say good bye.
“Akkere, good luck on the battlefront, and please come back safe.”
I then left after saying good bye. I would’ve stayed longer if I had known that was the last time I would see him.
