Bittersweet's Words
Secrets
Written January 2nd, 2009

The hot breeze caressed my face delicately. Lush green grass tickled the bottom of my legs and both sides of my cheeks. A distant covey of singsong birds trilled an elaborately woven song that echoed through the lonely, empty hills. Clouds drifted lazily along the infinite sky, and once in so often, a lone lark soared aimlessly, contrasting against the bright blue. It called a few times to the vast emptiness, a bird’s call, but to me it was a sound of music, a whisper of music, telling me how lovely the mild summer air was. The willow tree swayed cheerfully with the mild wind, allowing me to peek through its thick leaves to see the gleaming sum. I heard every little leaf rustle against each other, muffling the secrets they whispered eloquently to a spirit walking silently by.

I have taught myself to listen, not the way you would normally listen to the noise of cars and the sound of an instrument, but listening to the world, the splendid world of unheard jingles, rings, and thunders, the dazzling world of untold tales yet to keep silent and unknown stories the voice can weave. I still remember as if it was yesterday, I heard an exquisite woman’s voice murmur to me lovingly. Welcome to the world, on one who has yet to see it all, she said, followed by a bewitching twinkle. The world became alive. It was no longer a world, but the world, the wonderful, magnificent world. Thank you, I had whispered into the silence, or rather, it seemed as if I whispered to the silence. The truth is I was thanking the leaves, each leaf and bloom.

My toes wiggled restlessly in the cold. My ears, how numbed they are, but they still longed to stay here, to listen to the jingle of the snowflakes as they twirled playfully from the sky and kissed the blanked of white on the ground sweetly. Just as each tiny flower of snow ere different, they each have a distinct note to sing as they tumbled from the sky, only one note per snowflake, one single, delicate note. But oh, how magnificent it sounded during a snowfall. It was a complex melody, resounding into the atmosphere. As the snowfall began to recede, the melody ended with a melancholy chord.

I leaned idly into the newly fallen leaves. The edges scratched playfully across my cheeks and crinkled. Every minuscule move I made, every breath that came out between my two lips was felt by the leaves crunching with spirit. Like a mere child, I grabbed a handful of leaves and threw it up into the air. The colourful pieces of nature swooped lightheartedly in an irregular twirl as I tried in vain to catch them. After a few attempts, I laughed gleefully and flopped myself back down into the pile of leaves and allowed them to cover myself, to shield me from the cool fall breeze. Giggling in delight, the leaned back with me and kissed the tips of my fingers.

Running out into the rain, the blossoms of flowers greeted me formally while drinking their fill of water. I looked up at the sky and stretched, the raindrops bouncing off my cheeks. I sighed at the beauty of the springtime features and bowed my head politely to Mother Nature. Stepping into a puddle, the water splashed unto my pants and soaked my socks. Feeling delighted, I jumped up and ran into the puddle again, this time my shoes sank into the mud underneath the water and a bubble of air the slept under the mud gathered by my shoes and ruthlessly popped.
