Andrew walked in through the door. That Yukari girl had forgotten to close it again. He looked at her sleeping face from the doorway then looked at the top shelf. She hadn’t realized it yet… He sat in her chair, probably just waiting for her to rouse. Having an idea, he plucked the quill pen from her grasp ever so gently and began to write on a piece of parchment. He got the stuffed animal down from the top shelf, tucked the parchment in the basket containing the toy and left her room.

I woke up just to find that the stuffed animal had moved. I don’t remember if I had shut the door before I fell asleep, but now it was. Slowly, I took the stuffed animal out of the basket and a piece of paper fell out. On the paper wrote “Hello Yukari”. At first I thought that it was Adam’s writing but then I remembered that Adam only wrote in script. Well then, doesn’t that mean Andrew accepts me being here?
The stuffed animal was a white teddy bear, with a blue ribbon laced around its neck. On the end of the ribbon was a tiny silver bell. The bear itself was white with dark black eyes. I played with it all night, and even gave the bear a character. I pretended that the bear was alive, and that it eats superfluous amounts of food. I feared that I wouldn’t be able to remember the information that I just created for the bear, so I wrote in my journal.

October 3
Name: Yuki-kun
Character: Eats a lot, ticklish (although he doesn’t like to be tickled, especially on the stomach), never takes anything seriously, and has a snappy attitude.
Favorites: Pasta, his bell, annoying people, and his fur.
Dislikes: Being tickled and called “Cute”.


The next day, Adam woke me up early to see what I accomplished yesterday. While I was getting dressed, I realized that I hugged little Yuki-kun to sleep, but I found him nowhere near my grasp. He wasn’t even in my room. I kept searching until I heard a yell from the kitchen.
“Yukari, when did you get a bear?!” Adam asked angrily.


Andrew peered at the scene from his bedroom and looked embarrassed. No one made a sound or looked at the bear, but the bear had moved. Then a hoarse voice broke through the silence. “Hey! Don’t touch my fur with your hands, old man,” Yuki said. I stared at Yuki-kun wide eyed and so did the two men. “What? Never seen a talking bear before?! Now if you don’t mind, I’d like to return to my cheese.” Yuki-kun hopped out of Adam’s hold and waddled back to the kitchen. Everyone watched it as it went, then their focus turned back to me. “Yukari, what was that?!”

I hesitated. “Um, a cute little teddy bear?”

Adam laughed a false chuckle then said “No, that was a cute little teddy bear that came alive!” Yuki-kun stuck his head out of the kitchen door and said (while eating his cheese) “One: I have a name and it’s Yuki, got it? Two: Never call me cute!!!” Then he stomped back into the kitchen. Andrew continued staring at it, then finally eased his way back into his room.

Adam turned back to me. “Yukari!! Didn’t I tell you not to play with your wand?! Look what you did now!”

“But I wouldn’t touch the wand unless one of you force me to…” I whispered hesitantly.

Adam stopped yelling, and bowed his head in deep thought. He walked over to Andrew’s room, knocked on the door and said “Andrew, did you have anything to do with this bear? (“I told you! My name’s Yuki!”)” Andrew slowly opened the door and nodded.

Adam’s mouth dropped and groaned. “Now this is just great. We got a magical talking bear. What else could go wrong?” Yuki popped his head out of the kitchen once again. “On that subject, did you know that you left the stove on, Dumbo?” Adam turned to the bear, held it by the head, and tossed it out the front door. Then he turned the stove off and went into the room at the end of the hallway.
