I was in a topic earlier that was talking about, why people have faith. My opinion is that the reason so many blindly follow old scriptures, also called "The word of God" is because they need to feel secure and security comes in many forms. Some just have to believe that there is something more, and no one can say for sure there isn't. Religion, this one word has caused so much destruction in our history that I can't see why anyone would ever care to bring it up. I no longer believe that faith is driven by the belief in God, or any other powerful being. I see it as being driven by fear. For example, if your parents were Christians and told you repeatedly as a child, "If you do not believe and accept Jesus into your life you will go to hell and be tortured for all eternity." Wouldn't it be a hard feeling to shake as an adult? I believe in God to an extent, but I am not sure how much of that belief is based on the fear of Hell and how much I really just believe. Fear runs many religions, maybe not all but most. It is one of the biggest reasons so many follow.

The Bible to Christians is the book of "God's words", but can we say for sure that this is what God has spoken? Can any religious book really prove itself to be the words of such a powerful being? It tells of stories of the past that we can not prove as wrong or right, and even though some of the stories seem obviously incorrect there is few we find ourselves wondering about. I find it hard to trust such a book, so many have had it before and so many have probably corrupted it. I do believe in god but, again, I am not sure how much is based on my teachings as a child and my true belief. As for other religions, I suppose you would have to ask them why they have faith.
