I was running as fast as I could, hair streaming out behind me, toward the beach bungalow where Melissa and Jordan, her boyfriend, lived. I was running so fast that I didn't see where I was going and crashed into something. (Thank Poseidon I didn't crash to the ground and look like an idiot, though I couldn't say the same for the person I had crashed into.)
It turned out I had literally run into the person I was most anxious to see. Melissa looked on the verge of tears. Instinctively, I asked "Melissa, what's wrong?"
She had gone through heartbreak once before, so I knew the signs. I was preparing to break out the guns and fire away at the little booger who dared to dump her. However, we had more important matters to attend to. "Come on," I told my friend. "I'll get you a drink and we can talk all about it."
We walked back to the Sea Shanty, a little inn not too far from Port Gambino. After ordering our drinks, I asked, "Why were you running?"
"I needed to see you," she said, wiping away a few tears that were still in her eyes. "It's about Jordan."
"I thought so. stare 3nodding Did he dump you?"
"No, much worse. He was being with another woman, behind my back and to my face."
I was just about seething with anger then evil . 'Come on Anastasia,' I thought to myself, 'calm down. You can get back at the little booger later. Right now, you have something important to say.'
"So, why were you running?" asked Melissa.
"That's a fair question considering we both were running to see each other about something," I replied.
"What is it then?"
"Well...it's kind of a long story."
I told her everything: about the excursion on the sea-floor, the two eels I had found, the miraculous operation I had performed with Flotsam's help. I left out the sarcasm on Flet's part considering my friend was a bundle of nerves as it was.
"So you're saying, you have Ursula's henchmen under narcotics and they're asleep in your grotto right now?!"
"Yes. That's basically it. They were in pretty bad shape when I found them, so I'm guessing they're her ex-henchmen, or hencheels, or whatever they are. But that's not even the weirdest part."
"What is the weirdest part?" stare
"They look like humans."
