The King of Attolia
The King of Attolia is the third in the series that also encompasses The Theif and the Queen of Attolia. I know, I know, these are supposed to be kids books, but they are satisfying political novels in their own right. I enjoy Gen wildly as a character and was excited to see how things worked out for him. There are obvious hooks for a sequel, and it's better if one's read the others, but like the other two, it is fine and satisfying as a stand alone. (I read Queen before Thief and had no trouble, so i know whereof I speak.) Turner made the interesting choice of moving away from Gen's viewpoint here and it actually works out beautifully as Costas' as a viewpoint lets the reader see gen from the outside and makes the whole thing a bit of a puzzle to solve, which I enjoyed. sure we know more than Costas does, but one still has to sort out what's going on and what the actual plan is. It was as fun as the others and I am completely satisfied.
