the night was busier than normal. The boss had told us we needed to work over time that night because the Governor was going to on the Island the next day to check on the Island. Just to make sure we obeyed the rules and what not.
Because we where so busy Maddie ended up staying with me and my crew. We made several trips with just Liquor going between the air ships and the storage house. Maddie had her eyes pealed for cops and during our liquor runs we didn't seem to hit any of them. After we finished the liquor we took a small break and I introduced Maddie as my little sister to every one in the crew. Mainly Kisuke a young German child who was suppose to be sold on the island into a servitude but he escaped luckily the boss found him and took him in. He was added to my group soon after he came. We then set out to do the easier part of the night runs the drug pick ups. They came in smaller packages that you could hide on your person quiet well if you did run into a cop.
Maddie had excellent eye sight she spotted over three cops in the dark so we could take a different route to the second storage house. We even managed to finish a bit early. AS the rest of the orphans and other runaways slowly started to trickle in from finishing their jobs as well we began to tell stories to pass the time. Right as I was about to tell a story the boss came in and pulled me out.
We entered his office, he told me to sit and I did. He made a cup of tea for me an one for him self.

"Charlie, darling." He started. "I know who you are and your lucky no one else knows it. Anyway the point of you being here is because I am going to take you up in the ranks. It will take a while I'll train you myself. So est to say your goodbyes to people and find a way to get rid of your day life. Don't make it to bad. We cannot have the spot light on us. The underground wasn't meant for angels to see. You have two weeks to leave your life." the grizzled man said. He turned and didn't say anything. In his way he was dismissing me. So I drank the rest of my tea and left the office.
All I could think was two weeks. I have two weeks to leave my easy life. When I came back to all the other orphans and runaways Maddie walked up to me. We said our goodbyes and told every one we would see them the next night.
I told her everything the boss told me.

"We'll plan your disappearance first because if you go missing it won't matter to much. That hag can have you replaced at the snap of her fingers. I on the other hand am going to take a little more thought." I said as we came in through the window.
Mary was sitting at the table with breakfast already layed out for the two of us. When she heard the window opening she jumped up.

"Goodness you two scared me." She said placing a hand to her heart.
"Sorry Mary." Maddie said. "Didja go and bring us this food Mary?"
"Yes. Maddie I did. After what you two did last night I can only imagine you would both be quiet hungry." Mary said while giving us the once over checking for damage.
"Thanks Mary. With out you I would have been busted." I said Smiling. "Two weeks Mary. I promise to visit."
"You better child! The least you can do after causing my hair to turn gray!" She said tears in her eyes. "I will miss you along with every one else. We won't tell a soul swear on our honor."
"I will trust your honor then. Tell every one I say goodbye and I wish them the best of luck with the hag." I said to Mary as she left the room.
"And good luck to you Charlie of the Docks." Mary said closing the door.
"Come lets dine like kings for one of the last times!" I cheered.

I ate to my hearts content I quickly changed into my night gown and Maddie even quicker changed into her main uniform. Right as I jumped into bed a loud knock was heard. I sat up in my bed and ushered Maddie to open the door. The hag and her army of tailors and hair dressers and two personal maids walked in.

"Good morning mother." I said coldly.
"And a lovely morning it is. May the Lord be praised." She said making the cross with her hand I followed after."As you should know by now. Today is a special day. The Governor is coming to the Island. He will be staying with us. So I've called the best tailors to make you fine new dresses for his arrival tonight. You are also to meet a new suitor today. Try not to anger them or let that hideous temper of your surface." The hag clapped and every one set to work. Then she left the room.
I got out of bed and the two maids helped me into undergarments so that the tailors could set to work on the new dresses. I hate dresses. Pants are much easier to run in.
"On behalf of my mother I would like to apologize if she miss treated you in anyway." I told the tailors as they began to pull fabrics to my liking out. I trusted these men they have been making me dresses since I was a small child. They know I like to hid things in my dresses so they fill them with pockets undetectable to the unseeing eye. "And thank you for coming on such short notice. It must be hard for you to do all the dresses my mother wants you to create in one day's time."
"Its not a bother miss. This is what we do. Being the best is our job no to worry about anything." One of the tailors said.

I looked over to see what the hag's maids where up to do seeing as I couldn't see them from my spot. I saw them standing over Maddie as she cleared the table.

"You should be doing this faster! Why are you so slow child!? Don't think that just because the Mistress just hired you, you can get off the hook. Go faster." The brunette said. Her name if I remember correctly was Caroline.
Maddie tried to hurry her pace then she accidentally dropped a plate and it broke into several pieces. The second maid slapped her.
"you klutz! you need to be more careful child! The mistress will surely punish us if she finds out what you have done!" The blond maid responded.
"Jess, This child will not learn best just to tell Mary since the child is under her care." Caroline spat.
"Mary has never been known for any good servants other than the kitchen and laundry brats. What was she thinking when she made this girl a maid!" Jess counteracted.

I walked over to the maids and back handed both of them. Then proceed to help Maddie clean up, the tailors where shocked by my sudden disappearance. But I needed to help Maddie. When the pieces where safely on the cart I turned back to the maids.

"I am not fond of judgment in my presents nor am i fond of demeaning behavior toward this child. She is only a CHILD and I hope you can commit that to memory next time you she her struggling with something. I requested this girl to be my personal maid so I could keep her innocent from the rest of you would only demean and break her. You are dismissed. Never let me hear you speak that way again." I said and pointed to the door.

The maids left their faces red from anger. I couldn't just stand there and let them do that to Maddie. I leaned back down to Maddie to whisper something in her ear.

"You will leave this place soon. Travel back to the docks immediately and await my return. ask for Kisuke, tell him Charlie sent you he will watch over you. Three days time at dusk take nothing with you but your pride."

I got up and went back to the tailors. "I apologize gentlemen that you had to witness such foul behavior on both mine and my servants."
"Your something else Miss. Nothing like your mother. You are kind." another tailor said.
"I only look after the helpless kind sirs. It is my duty as a child of God." I said watching Maddie make her way out of the room with the dishes. 'Just a bit longer, hold in there.'

The tailors managed to start four new dresses between the five of them. I changed into a green and gold dress and headed in the direction of the hag for tea.

"Your late." she said.
"My deepest apologize mother but I saw the two maids you sent to be incompetent in their jobs so I had to send them away." I said calmly pouring another cup of tea for the hag.
"Incompetent? Those where my personal maids I let you borrow how where they incompetent?" She asked defiantly.
"The filled to respect my personal maid." I responded. "Then they failed to keep their tongues under control in front of the tailors causeing me much shame."
"Those two shall hear from me about that. How dare they disgrace me. When did you get a personal maid I never assigned one to you."
"I had wished to speak with you about it today. The young girl whom you recently hired has caught my eyes. She is quiet and polite and does not dare do anything more than what she is told to do." I said.
"The street rat? Jennifer surely there is a maid that is better for you than a thieving rat." she laughed.
"none of the other maids are of interest to me and they take time to do their jobs. This girl gets them done and does them well." I said pushing my point that I wanted no one else.
"Fine if you want the rat so much you can have her. But do not come running to me when she steals your jewelry." The hag said smirking. "Your taste could be improved upon though . Many people will wonder about it when she is with you."
"A small price to pay mother." I said.
"Your suitor will be here soon. Finish getting ready." She said and with that I left the presence of that horrible woman.

I again made the long walk back to my room. As I neared the library I began to slow to a stop. I looked at the great doors that now blocked all passage to the world beyond. I prayed that one day its doors could be opened once more.
I arrived at my room and was inmedently placed on a chair so my hair could be dealt with. AS soon as the hair dresser finished a butler came in.

"Your gentlemanly caller awaits for you miss." he said in his dull tone.
"Thank you." I said getting up and walking to the entryway.

As I neared the entrance I could hear my father and the hag speaking with the suitor. As I came closer I could see that my father had a gleam in my eye.

"Ah my daughter. May I introduce you to Mr. James Deranged." He said pulling me closer to the group.
"A pleasure." I said curtsying slightly. I looked up to meet him with my normal stare that would normally tell anyone "Give up now I'm not interested in the likes of you." But the moment my eyes locked with his curiosity over came me. One eyes of green teh otehr of blue. And his hair was blacker than the night sky. Other than that he looked normal. But something peaked my curosity about him so I allowed my self to go on the set up picnic my father and the hag planned.
When we got to a park near the house the told the servants to wait in the carraige. Which they gladly did because of the heat. James motioned for me to follow him as he walked over a small hill. He picked a spot under the Willow tree opening the branches for me he promptly set out to set the picnic up.

"Is there a reason you picked this spot Mr. Deranged?" I asked once he had finished.
"We'll I have always been fond of Willow trees and they always are cool under the heat of the sun." He said motioning for me to sit next to him on the blanket. "And please call me James."
"Alright James." I said. "I hope you don't mind my questioning but where did my mother find you? I've never seen you before on this Island."
"She found me in the Bay. I was just getting off my air ship when she rather rudely bumped into me. Then dragged me back to your lovely home and pointed to your window which you happened to be standing at. Then asked me if I was interested. I didn't want to offend her so I said yes. But really I'm not looking for anyone right now. Terribly sorry." HE said pouring a cup of tea for me then him self.
