How could such a paradise twist into a nightmare haunting ever waking moment of my life? I wish my questions could be answered, or at least bring me light into my heart. I never wanted to be trapped in this city, I never knew why either. My kind isn't dangerous in any way. Some say that our leader is protecting us from the outsiders from comming in and destroying our beloved people. Other like me believe that he holding us as prisoners to do his bidding. Despite the fears and shadows the city is known to be beautiful and a wonderous place to behold. Colors glow off the building with hues that no mortal could imagine while the air whisps gentle songs that could fill anyone's heart with love and sorrow. Roads cloaked in glass as light luminated from below. I longed to escape this mezmorizing city, but it's dwellers fear and hate my own being who would put me to death if they knew of my existance. I wasn't of pure blood, half of me is a night spirit. A mongrel born into these lands are forbidden and often exicuted. My mother died after I was concieved leaving my father the leader of the night spirits to hide me from the leader's gaurds. I wished that he was still with me so that I didn't feel so lonely. It's easy to hide yourself in a land full of shapeshifters, unfortunately you can't trust anyone for that reason. " Hey, you there." I glanced over to the man calling me, his Armor shimmering from the city's aura. Fear struck my legs as I sprinted away from the gaurd. I could hear his faint cries calling to me while I presisted to disappear. Cursed with paranoia I always avoided the authorities in the streets. Turning the corner to a neon sign to a club I weaved downstairs to my domain. I was pleasently greeted by the owner of the club, even though I could hardly hear his words over the pounding bass. "Kai, what brings you down here? You normally don't go home" he chuckled once I embraced his arms around me. Because this isn't my home, I never belonged to Nexus. I thought to myself as I replied. " I just figured that I should pay a visit. To assure you that I was ok." My words slipped carelessly, I knew he didn't care weather I was physically breathing or not. He might have been able to decieve a shapeshifter with his optimistic shell, but my other half could easily read emotion through one's body. " Well I'm glad to see you dear, will you be staying the night or are you going to flee from your sancturary?" He let out a crooked smile. His words were distasteful and I wanted knock his teeth out right then. For once I was proud of my father's blood to be able to decieve these physic creatures easier. Otherwise I would have been dead long before this time. Flashing a final smile to the greedy man I slithered upstairs to once again become hypnotized by Nexus's beauty. I wanted to break free from this glorious prison. It was against a Night spirit's nature to be confined and obey other's rules. I wanted to desperately spread wings and soar away from the city's magical bonds that held my magic inside. Shapeshifters possesed many abilities, but the city tends to keep most of them locked in a slumber. The few people who were able to savor the full power of their being became insane within their own magic and slipped away into what is called hollow shadows. You become numb, mentally lost in a abyss and never to feel pain or happiness again. To me the hollow shadows similar to what I go through that I might as well have been sucked into my own void. At least I wouldn't feel my aching heart beat everyday. I was awaken from my day dreaming by a tall figure standing in my dim path. " You're light is dim on the streets, that isn't a normal thing you see from a shapeshifter. Where is your reserve girl?" His violet eyes saw right through me. How could have I have been foolish enough to let my emotions cut loose on the open? My body froze from his gaze, I could feel his magic trying to seep into my mind until putting up walls to stop him. His eyes widened with surprise after being cut off. I could risk him reading my mind or knowing who I was. I wanted to escape from him, but terror held me still. "Who are you?" he whispered in my ear but in my mind he might as well have been shouting at me. " Kai.." my breath shivered. I realized then that he was holding me by his magic and threw off my shield to stay calm. Stuck in his grip like a puppet I couldn't cut those strings holding me to him. Stay calm Kai, you can do this. He might let you go alive if you just stay calm. My thought frantically rushing around. I tried to slow my breathing and calm my mind until the man scooped me up into his arms. I couldn't help to panic as I screamed. Even though my throat was shrieking no sound echoed my desire. I kept struggling as it was put at a hault by the stranger's soft words. "Relax, Kai I'm going to help you only if you calm down. I'm a friend of your father." The words dispersed into my head and my body obeyed his request. He carried me into a house far from the heart of Nexus and into an empty room. Steel walls coated in violet shades with ruby silk pillows across the floor. He set me down on a large plush pillow and sat across from me while finally releasing his tie to me. I felt the weight lift off immediately letting out a sigh of relief. " Now, allow me to introduce myself. I'm Vincient and a friend of your father who sent me here to help you escape Nexus." " I'd rather die in the city rather than see my father again." I snapped. "He means well and can give you a better life Kai." "I told you I don't want to see him. He left me here in this frozen shell!" I struck at him with a bolt of lightning immediately. We both knew where this arguement was going to lead to. Vincient sat up and winced at the pain in his chest. My gaze still fixed upon him like shards of ice. "Fine....I'll still help you though if you want to get out of the city. We'll leave early." His eyes flickered with rage from inside, yet his voice was calm and his mind collective. I found myself trembling in fear again. Why am I afraid of him? He said he's going to help. My mind once more rationalizing my emotions. I shook the thoughts off and went to Vincient's side. "I'm sorry for hurting you. I didn't mean to lash out at you." "Your father isn't the enemy you know." He stated coldly. " He's never helped me..." "He's never hurt you either keep that in mind and choose wisely on who's side you're on." I sank my head into my hands as soon as his words cut me. Vincient carefully picked me up and laid me down on the soft bed in the room. He stroked my platinum hair lightly which made me startle a bit. I wasn't used to contact anymore. Vincient smirked at the sight of my twitching and bid me goodnight. The sun gleemed into my eyes and I rolled over lazily until Vincient barged into the room. I scrambled around to gather what I needed and tried to follow Vincient to the nearest gates at the edge of the city. Before the gaurds could even stop us Vincient wrapped an arm around my waist and we leapt up high into the air. Looking at my compainion I noticed the clear wings he spread from his back. After soaring over the valleys my feet finally touched ground. It wasn't long during the journey that I became used to Vincient holding me close. "So where can I go now?" "Well I don't know, you didn't want to see your dad though. I guess I can leave the rest up to you." Bluntly replying and turning away without any word. "Wait! You can't just leave me here out like this!" Furiously dashing at him. Before I was able to grab his arm he turned around and twisted his arms around my torso. "well somebody's cheeks are flushed" He lightly remarked. I tried to push him away, but he held on tighter. Irritated I continued to smack him away. " "Let go of me!" "Why?" He giggled. I wasn't amused by his taunting. "Oh come on Kai, when was the last time you ever had a little fun?" Vincient began to tickle at my sides even though I tried not to let out a laugh it soon became inevitable. Don't get attachted to him Kai...You need to keep your defenses up. With that thought in mind I broke away from Vincient's grasp. "What's wrong Kai?" His eye showed worry. " I need to find a place where I can live now." "I have a place already made for you." I met his gaze to read out any lies imbedded with his words. I sighed in relief as he showed the way to my new home. Once we approached a small town in the outskirts I examined the large building ahead of us. It held a simple elegence to it. I smiled tiredly from the long trip and leaned against Vincient for some support. He grined while wrapping an arm around me. I was beginning to unpack my things in the new room when Vincient came in. "I'll be leaving you now, but I'll be near if you ever need help." He gave me one last hug and disappeared into the forest outside. Once his presence faded away I felt my chest almost sink. "What's wrong with you Kai? I told you to not get attachted. He'll hurt you, be careful." I tried shutting out the voice in my thoughts so I could finish settling in. Weeks passed by without a sign of my old friend. I quickly adapted to the people here. The children played freely outside unlike in Nexus and no one held any sort of reserve to them. I could speak honstely about my feelings and for once in my life let my night spirit abilities awaken. Soaring through the skies and dancing gracefully in the ceremonies I felt so much at peace. The day simmered into night shortly after the moon had risen to the sky. I changed into my night gown and snuggled in my bed peacefully. Suddenly I was disturbed by some strange noises down stairs. Screetching cries stirred from below the closer I cautiously made my way to the living room. My breathing stopped cold and eyes widening to the creature before me. A chill ran down my spine causing flesh to turn white while staring at the monster's snarling teeth. Quickly stummbling up the stairs I tried to spread my wings and fly away, but my magic seemed to have faded away. Crashing out of the window I hurlded two stories down. I felt as if my very soul was tearing out of my body once I made impact to the ground. Lungs were searching for air, I tried to get up only to find the monterous figure in front of me. Fear clawing at my instincts I tried to run, but the beast scratched at my back. Scarlet lines traced the claw marks while seeping through the clothes. "I'm going to die, what can I do? What's happening to me?" My thoughts screamed inside. Before I could rise to my feet a white sheet shrouded my vision. "Am I dead now? No...I couldn't be..What if I am? I have to wake up! This can't end now, I need to make it. Wake up Kai!" I suddenly found myself physically screaming as the words echoed through time. Memories flooded me with confusion. I pushes the questions and fear aside to see if I could find Vincient. He was the only I could turn to...who I would want to turn to. "Was I going insane? Am I losing control of my power now?" Just as the words slipped through into sound I was starled from someone touching my dress. The little girl back away as if I was going to scold her. "What is it young one?" Trying to hide the adrenaline under my tone. Silence filled between us until the girl handed out a rose. "Why thank you, I...", The girl's hand was covered in blood, tears smeared on her cheeks while watching the town diminish into ash. I pulled away from the girl's hand after seeing the horrific vision. She almost began to cry and I couldn't bear the tears. "Please don't cry, I'm sorry little girl." I tried to not look at the town up in a blaze once giving the child a gentle hug. Forcing tears from my eyes I wanted to ignore such a future yet it burned in my thoughts. As soon as the girl trotted off I went to search for Vincient. I could sense his aura when I flew closer to him. I reached the prison I had before tried to escape from."Why would Vincient be back here?" Briefly puzzled, I thought of a way to sneak in passed the gate without causing attention. Flying would be out of the question. My eyes however noticed that the gaurds at the gate weren't there. Even more odd was that the gates were unlocked. After slipping into Nexus I continued searching for my advisor. I thought about our interesting journey and how close I grew attatched to him.
