Aftermath
When it comes down to simply that the word, 'aftermath', it's easy to decode what it means. No, not with the deffinition. You can know what the word means without looking it up. Aftermath is simply the calculation and total of what has happened, only after the event has taken place. Sometimes it can be for fun events, like a pie-eating contest. Other times it's been for those who've died in a major disaster, like the 2005 tsunami.. This story is about an aftermath.. When they asked why God did this.. The answer was almost as simple as the word this is named after. God didn't do this.. We did..
Day 1 - March 21, 2019.
Zachery: "Good evening, California. It's a bright day outside right now. It'll be a top of eighty-one. Our low for tonight will probably drop down to the mid seventies. I'll let this over to Kaily with the local news, Kaily?"
Kaily:"Thank you, Zach. Well, today we've got late-breaking news as the fir-"
The radios, tv's, cars, and anything electronic went dead in an instant. Then came back back on. A second of time was all it took.
Kaily:"What was that?!"
David:"We don't know, it just happened in an instant, it doesn't look like anything was damaged. Keep going, Kaily."
The woman straightens her hair, "Alright, anyways. Well, today the first pie-eating contest in Jympsum County will be held just outside of the station. We'll be holding it at arou-"
Most electronics went dead within a radius of some few cities. The selected cities were cut from electricity. Other news crews rushed to the counties. What they saw was something extraordinary, something unpresidented. The cities were now just smoldering ashes, and buildings half-destroyed. The news crews turned on their cameras and started their reports. A screeching sound was heard and some started running. Some creature the size of a human with metallic armor over it's chest had jumped on a camera-man, and was beginning to shred at him with claws. A police officer there pulled out his gun and shot the creature a few times in it's head. A hole started to open in the ground, first it was only about five feet wide. Then it got bigger until cars were sucked into and it was a block wide. A massive creature walked out of it and slammed it's feet down. Other things in armor pulled themselves over and raised guns. They slaughtered the innocent and did it with no remorse.
Johnathan:"This is John with the KCK news, when we first got here. We thought the city had been bombed.. It was a major disaster area.. Then other reports of the same came through, and then communication was lost everything.. And we heard a noise.. The ground collapsed.. And," He wipes tears from his eyes and tries to catch his breath, "these things came out of the ground. They started to slaughter everyone. They.. Just came.. And killed. They left just a few minutes ago.. Daniel, my camera-man, was killed during it. I'll try to make it back to KCK by to-"
The rest was cut off, but there were screams. This is how the world found out. This is how it started. And how most thought it would end. Finally with something everyone would have to unite on.. The world came to their sences. But, was it already to late?
President James T. Broute: "People, I urge you to join together, put our differences aside. We must fight together now that a single threat has arisen to us all. Please, fight with us, and we will be able to push this scum back. We have some samples from scientist, and these creatures are beleived to be tunnelers. They can come from anywhere, and we urge that we build a city that could protect against this. We have the plans ready, but we need everyone's help for this."
So, the world joined together and build a grand city. The city was called, "Plateu". With the help of many countries, they built the city on a group of islands. The islands was caped with a series of different stones that would help block from the creatures digging through. As with all great ideas, there was a flaw. The creatures didn't stop digging when the stone became to rough. They dug harder, and with more umph. Soon the creatures even found themselves above the ground in the once-thought-to-be, 'impervious', city of "Plateu". So, the people were either killed, or fled to the remaining countries. They bought back, and still, the war didn't stop. They creatures kept coming. Without reason, they had attacked, and still without one known to us; they kept attacking.
Present day - June 1, 2026 - 3 years after 'Ground-Break', when they broke through into Plateu.
Sam:"Dude, pass me some water."
A man nods to him and hands him a metal cup of water.
Sam:"Aye, lets head inside.. We don't wanna be caught out in the dark."
Jason:"Yea, you're right."
They men head back inside as the sun sets behind the buildings. They turn on the lights and light candles. Screaches echo through the sky as black winged creatures soar over in large hoardes. Samuel goes to the window and shakes his head.
Sam:"Why this?.."
Some others walked in and sat at the table. They started eating on dinner and were talking for a bit. Then they headed to bed. The creatures still screaching some as they flew past the house. The creatures extremely aggitated by light, their skin would burst into flames. The other creatures would have to carry lights with them, for the flying ones would attack anything in darkness, even their own kind.
Day 2: Awh, Not Again..
When morning comes, the group wakes up and eats breakfest. They put on their outfits and grab their guns. They head outside and get into an AVC. As they drive, a hole opens up in the ground. Jason and Samuel jump out, Jason throws a grenade at the hole as some creatures pour out. Samuel takes out the ones that got away from the grenade blast. They look around and get back into the AVC. The woman with them, Brooke, drives towards the center of town. Devan, their computer analyst and expert goes over com links.
Devan: "This is Dev, major. We've picked up DESTINEE." He looks over to a large-looking computer type object.
Sam: "Where are we suppose to go to Major? We need the drop location."
Major: "It's about a 1/4 of mile away.. It'll be in a town square. Watch for any type of tremors."
Devan/Sam: "Yessir."
The AVC turns and heads towards a town square. The car comes to a stop near a small com-center with a helicopter. We get out and run over, the helicopter starting up.
Sam: "Eye the area! Keep your mind on the ground as well!"
Devan: "I've got readings for anything around us, don't worry."
Jason: "It's not like they can take us out anyways."
Brooke: "Your egos showing, Jas."
Jason: "Really?! Where?!"
Megan: "My god, you're half retarded."
Jason: "Awh, shut up, I'm playing."
Megan: "I know, I was just saying though."
Sam: "This team is doomed.."
Brooke: "Yea.. Sometimes I think the same."
Devan: "Mmhmm.."
Major: "Lets get that DESTINEE on the heli."
Samuel runs back to the AVC and puts the DESTINEE on his back, he puts it in the helicopter.
Devan: "We've got activity! It's a Droner!"
A small area drops down into the ground, large creature comes up and screams into the sky. It opens it's mouth and a creature flies into the air. It turns to us and shoots down at us. Samuel grabs the DESTINEE
Sam: "It's too risky! They'll take down the chopper! Lets go, people; lets go!"
Everyone loads back in the AVC, the others at the com-center take off in a truck. The helicopter lifts off and as it starts to take off, three Drones slam into it. The helicopter loses control and hits a tower of a church, exploding at the impact. The AVC takes off, a large drone comes up out of the hole, named a Hades. It points a large gun at us and shoots, it hits the AVC but hardly does anything, and Brooke runs it down with the AVC. The ground under the AVC starts to crack. A huge hole forms and an enormous creature comes out. The creature rawrs at AVC and slams it's two front legs down. The Lurker rawrs in anger at our escape and slams a leg into a building, demolishing the seven story building.
Sam: "Drive to the refugee camps.. I know some people."
Jason: "You serious, man? Those people are dirt, why do we need them?"
Devan: "Because they know this city better than us."
Jason: "We've got maps, oh well!"
Megan: "That's not the point.. They have maps of where the most active breaches are."
Jason: "Ah.. I see."
Sam: "Exactly.. That's why I want to go to the camp.. We have the equipment we need to find out how to kill them."
Day 2, Pt 2: Go where?!
They drive over a pretty old, worn out bridge, and the creaking of it reminds them. They come up to a gate and some people look through.
Guard:"They're good, cap'n."
The large gates open and they proceed into the camp. Makeshift houses along with actual ones are all over the place. There's some stalls along the road vendoring food. The group parks the AVC and get out. The refugees watch the group cautiously.
Kaine: "Aye, bra! How ye been doin', mon?" A large Jamaican man walks over to Samuel.
Sam: "Not bad.. We ran into some trouble in Parahdime Square."
Kaine: "That na surprise, mon, none surprise at-all." He laughs some.
Sam: "I also came because I need maps to the Bridgedeir Tunnel."
Kaine: "Ooohh no no no, mon.. You ain' gettin' the Bridgedeir Tunna maps. Those arn' for you, Sammy-boy. Those maps are confidentia."
Sam: "We have DESTINEE, Kaine.. She's working."
Kaine: "Hm.. Lemme think for a momen' now, mon." He sits back in a chair and thinks for a bit, and stroking the whiskers on his chin as he does.
Sam: "So, Kaine.. My main Jamaican mon. You've got what we want, and I beleive I've got.. What you want."
Kaine: "Oh, no you didn't, yea ol' dog."
Sam: "That I did.. Found'em in a vault from our last scout." I take out a box of air-sealed cigars.
Kaine: "Ahahahaaaha! You're a good man, Sammy-boy.. I'll get you those maps, just wait here, mon."
Kaine walks into a building and comes out with a GPS devise. He hands it over to me and Sam hands him the cigar box. He smiles and walks off to his own little house. He looks back at the rest of the group.
Sam: "We've got it, lets go."
Jas: "Interesting guy."
Brooke: "Havn't met any Jamaicans before."
Megan: "Yea.. I didn't think they would be in the old U.S. anyways."
Devan: "Doesn't mean they wont leave their island for here. This place is , after all, one of the safest."
Sam: "Yea, Dev's right."
We go back into the AVC and Brooke starts it up, and Sam opens the map. He sese the place circled to where Bridgedeir Tunnel is.
Sam: "Sweet Jesus.. If only you were here.. You gotta be ********' kidden me here!"
Jas: "What's up man; he jip yea?"
Devan: "Oh, crap.. Sam's right.. We do need Jesus."
Megan: "What's up?"
Brooke: "Gotta tell me before I drive into something."
Brooke stops the AVC and looks back at everyone. Sam looks at the little circle on the map.
Sam: "Right there.. Right near the freakin' middle!"
Jas: "What you talkin' 'bout, dude?"
Devan: "He's talking about the Fields."
Jas: "Go where?!"
Brooke: "What are the Fields?"
Megan: "Yea, what are they?"
Sam sighs and sits in a seat, "The Fields.. Are basically the stronghold of the Swarm. The Bridgedeir Tunnel is about fifteen miles into the Fields. Even if just fifteen miles.. It's their 'territory'. We'd never last that long."
Jas: "So.. We're ********?"
Brooke: "Nice way of putting it, Jason."
Megan: "Real nice." She sighs.
Devan: "He is right though."
Sam thinks for a bit and stand back up, he smiles to the rest.
Sam: "We're ******** any which way.. Why not at least take out a few of these pest along the way, aye?"
Brooke: "Always with yea, Sammy."
Megan: "Pretty much stuck with Brooke."
Devan: "You'll need me, and ain't much but you guys left for me."
Jas: "Eh, why not? I might get to try out a Thor along the way."
Sam: "Don't get your hopes up.. The Thor's are not so easily obtained."
Brooke begins her driving once again. In the horizen are cascading mountains and rocky cliffs with an old installation sticking out of it. Streams of black smoke streak across the sky as Drones fly over. The skies almost dark with so little light. A strange armored Grenadier sits on a Drone in a small saddle. He watches the AVC and thinks. He snarls and flies off.
Daum: "Sscummm..." The strange armored Grenadier says as he flies away on the saddled Drone.
Day 3: I See the End..
The group drives up to some busted guard gates. The engine cuts out in the AVC and comes to a steady halt.
Brooke: "Sonvabitch! The enging gave out.."
Sam: "Doesn't matter.. We continue on foot from here."
Devan: "Say what?!"
Jas: "Sounds good to me."
Devan: "The hell if I'm going out there!"
Megan: "The hell if you're gonna stay here as well."
Devan: "Fine.. Whatever." He sighs and gets some armor on.
Sam gets up and grabs an intercom.
Sam: "Major, we've got issues with the AVC; confirmation to proceed on-foot?"
Major: "Confirmed, Lieutenant, you may proceed on-foot as requested."
Sam: "Thank you, sir."
Devan: "So, where to?"
Sam: "We're gonna have to go to that old mining facility up the hill."
Jas: "Dude, did that use to be an old gold or diamond mine?"
Sam: "Yeap, but it's been depleted since before the war, and left for Mother Earth to rust away."
Jas: "Damn.. Thought we might get rich off this some." He laughs.
Sam: "Yea, I wish."
Megan: "Shouldn't we get going before the Parahfliers get out?"
Sam: "Yea, lets go."
Brooke: "I'm gonna miss this AVC."
Sam laughs and opens the hatch. They walk out and keep their weapons ready. They walk past the guard gate and head towards the old mining facility. A Screecher looks at them down the road. The group stops and it looks up at them from eating a deer carcass. It screams an ear-shattering screeching sound. More of them come from the woods.
Sam: "Lock'n'load people!"
Jas: "Yessir!"
Samuel aims at the one screeching and takes it head off in one shot. More Screechers jump out from the bushes surrounding the road and out of trees. The group put their backs against each other and take fire. They cover each other with reloading or there's too many coming from one side.
Sam: "We've gotta move! A Hades might get a message soon."
Jas: "Alright, you heard 'im, everyone. Lets go!"
The group start moving and take turns shooting the Screeches behind them. They make it to the mining facility and run in. Sam, Jas, and Devan push a door shut and it auto-locks.
Sam: "This place still has power.."
Jas: "That must mean there's people, hm?"
Sam: "Yeap."
Devan: "Think they'll help or they've gone crazy?"
Brooke: "They've probably gone crazy and are gonna canniblize us."
Megan: "Shut up, Brooke.. You're freaking me out."
Brooke: "I'm kidding."
Megan: "Still freaks me out.."
They proceed through the mining facility and come across a recently burned fire. They follow a trail of foot prints from wet shoes being in soot. They come to a large vault-like door. Sam bangs on the door and hears nothing. He goes to a control panel and pushes the intercom.
Sam: "Hello? Is there anyone inside there? This is Lieutenant Colonel Samuel J. Locke."
A voice comes over the intercom..
???: "Yes.. I am a survivor.. I've been here for about two years."
Sam: "Could you open the door, please? Will you talk to us?"
???: "Yea.. Just lemme get GiBot."
Sam: "Alright.."
The door opens and there's a girl standing next to a robot. She scratches her head and looks at us all.
Alex: "My name is Alex McVey. Already told you how long I've been here.. So, what are you all here for? I know it's not a Rescue Party."
Sam: "It's not, we're here to drop off a package to the Hive."
Alex: "You mean you're going to infiltrate the enemy base and then try and get out?"
Sam: "Yes, and we'll try." He smiles.
Alex: "Nice.. I've got a PSG9 and an AUG-13, could I come?"
Sam: "Sounds good, anyone got rejections?"
Jas: "If the babe gots guns, let her come join the fun."
Brooke: "It's cool, and I'm Brooke by the way."
Megan: "Yea, and I'm Megan."
Devan: "If it's cool with everyone else, it's cool with me."
Sam: "It's good then, welcome to the most rag-tag, dangerous, mentally unstable, spastic group in the SEALs.. We're SEAL Team 6, or as most call it, Bad Company."
Alex: "Sounds interesting.. I think I would've joined the military if I knew of this squad."
Sam: "Oh, we arn't joinable.. You're put in here if you did something stupid."
Alex: "I do a lot of stupid stuff."
Sam: "Good, you'll fit perfectly. Now, can you get us down into the tunnel system so we can go to Bridgedeir?"
Alex: "Sure, I've made it half-way before I turned back once."
Jas: "Just by yourself?" He raises an eyebrow.
Alex: "Yeap, but I almost did get caught a few times.."
Jas: "Nice.. We'll have little problem, only problem will be stealth."
Alex: "Oh yes, there's always another thing I should mention.."
Sam: "What is it, Alex?"
Alex: "There's a strange Grenadier that rides a Drone or a Lurker.. It wears a blood red armor and carries a grenade-launcher-like shotgun. It also carries a blade with ridges that go back, so when it rips it out, it rips things with it."
Sam: "Mm.. It's the Hive's general. He's been seen in large attack groups commanding the Swarm. He killed my C.O. about ten weeks ago. I ran in and disobeyed orders from the secondary C.O., and some of my group got killed.. It was either life in prison to most likely be killed by the Swarm, or to be put in Bad Company."
Alex: "Well, lets get going, follow me."
The group follows the young girl to a large elevator. They all get in it and put on their helmets and turn the lights on the helmet and suits on. The elevator takes about three minutes to finally reach the bottom. They walk out and look around at the extensive cave system. They start their journey to Bridgedeir Tunnel.
Ch. 3 Pt. 2 - Mini-Chapter. - The Call.
The group walks forward some and sits down to rest. Sam walks away from the group and to a secluded area.
Sam: "Major, do you copy?"
Major: "Loud and clear, son."
Sam: "We're in the Hive. Commense operation Extermination."
Major: "Copy, we'll send in Thor's, Hawks, and Riders in five hours.. Get some rest son, you all will need it."
Sam: "Yessir, thank you.. Sir."
He walks back to the rest of the group. He has them follow him to a hollowed out area, and they set down a holographic device that makes it seems like an enclosed rock area. They take out some blankets and place them down to sleep on. Devan takes the DESTINEE off his back and rest it against the cave wall. They all lay down and sleep for about four and a half hours.
Pt 4: The End For All But One - The Final Chapter.
Sam gets up and packs the blanket. He goes around to everyone waking them up. He checks outside of the hologram to see it's alright. Devan puts DESTINEE on his back once more. They pick up the hologram and follow Alex towards the Bridgedeir Tunnel.
Up above, on ground, drops ships are lowering down men and machines. Large double-cannoned tanks roll through the Swarm's territory. The Hawks hover above and the Riders drive their hover-bikes with small RPG cannons on two sides. Some of the Swarm start attacking the advancing units. The army and the Swarm start battling all over the little territory.
The team looks up as they hear the cannon fire from the Thors.
Jas: "Isn't that a Thor's cannon fire?"
Sam: "Yes, it is." He continues walking.
Brooke: "Wait.. Do you know something, Sam?"
Sam: "No, I don't.."
Megan: "Bull, I can tell by the way you're talking."
Devan: "Dude, what the hell's going on, man?!"
Sam: "I called them! Alright?! This is the end of it all, right here! Today, we end it, or we damage them so bad, we drive them back where they came from!"
Jas: "The hell dude?! You could've told us or something."
Brooke: "Maybe we would've liked to be informed, yea'know?"
Sam: "I know.. But it'd be best if we stopped yelling and just continued, right? Alex, keep leading us."
Alex: "Okie dokie."
Alex continues on with the robot hovering at her side. Sam follows behind her and the rest follow.
Brooke: "Why didn't you tell us, you think we'd object to some reinforcements?"
Jas: "I don' really like it, but it's nice."
Megan: "I don't care, he still didn't tell us."
Devan: "She is right, we should've at least been told."
Sam: "It doesn't matter, they're only there to distract the Hive from what we're doing."
The group continues on, and the fighting above gets more intense. General Daum rides on his Lurker. The lurker screams into the sky and runs at a tank. The tank fires, but the enormous creature is able to dodge it. It continues its run and slams two for-legs into the tank. It twist around and slams a tail into other men and some Riders.
Daum: "Exth xique talck deil mak!"
Grenadier: "Moltin dri anhk nique brou cik xeall pocki deai mich melten."
Daum: "Melten?!!"
Daum takes out a sword and stabs the granadier in the neck. He rips it out and steers the Lurker back towards the main tunnels.
Daum: "Inconfident scum."
He has the lurker take him underground. The group runs into some Grandiers and a Hades heading towards the surface.
Hades: "Ground-walkers!"
Grenadiers: "Slaughter'em!"
The grenadiers open fire on the team as they duck behind cover. The robot of Alex's opens a little hatch on it's arm, and it pushes up a small gun from it's arm. It stands up and fires at the attackers. It gets hit a few times but nothing really happens. The Hades pulls it's RPG-shotgun off it's back and laughs.
Hades: "Boom!"
It fires the large gun and three small missiles fly at the robot. Two veer off a little bit from it and hit a column and a rock. The other one hits the robot in it's waist area. The robot flies back in a rock and the lights in it's eyes goes off. Alex looks back and a tear forms. Her only friend for so long, even if just a hunk of metal, was blown apart.
Alex: "GiBot!! No!"
Sam: "Alex! Stay there! I'll take care of this."
Jas: "Sam, don't even think it, you're not that stupid."
Sam: "The hell do you think I'm in this squad for then, huh?"
Sam laughs some and hops up. He runs over towards the Swarmers and they watch him. Sam keeps running at them and they just stare, and soon stop firing for a minute. He runs past them and they keep watching. He slides to a stop and runs back. He takes out a grenade and pulls the pin. He jumps with all his might and flies over the nine foot Hades. He grabs the Hades' armor collar and shoves the grenade down it. He puts two feet to the Hades and pushes it back. It falls off the edge and the grenade blows. Sam picks up the RPG-shotgun and the others go to return fire. He fires the RPG-shotgun at a group of some Grenadiers and fires his A.R. at some others. The group fires at the others still around him. The group walks down to him. Brooke walks over and punches him in his jaw.
Jas: "Owch.."
Brooke: "The ******** were you doing?! Huh?!!"
Sam: "Aye! It threw them off guard, didn't it? We can continue now.. So settle down, soldier."
Brooke: "I'm sorry, Lieutenant.. It frightened me."
Sam: "It's fine, lets continue."
He gets up and rubs his jaw as they walk. There's a sound of scraping rocks and in a corner of the huge cavern, they see legs fold back into darkness. They hear the sound of large, rapid foot steps.
Sam: "Hold your position.. We've got company."
Devan: "It's the Lurker.. The one from before."
Jas: "The hell you mean, Dev?"
Devan: "It has the armor leg-guards as the one that got pissed when we escaped."
Jas: "Crap.. This thing wont be happy to see us again."
They continue down the path and come to a large platform suspended over a seven hundred foot drop. The Lurker roars above them and drops down onto the platform. The group steps back and it roars again at them.
Sam: "Open fire! Shoot it under it's stomach!"
The group opens fire but it closes it's front legs around itself to protect it's soft underbelly. It opens it's legs for a bit to try to attack us, and we fire at it's underbelly. It screams as we shoot it. It backs up and closes it's legs again. It screams and lifts it's legs up. The group fires at the Lurker's belly and it steps back more and covers it's belly. It roars an aggitated roar and lifts it's four front legs up, slamming it down, the cave shakes and some stalactites fall and slam around. A column the group was on just before falls. The RPG-shotgun falls slides over by Sam. He grabs it and sees there's two more shots from it left.
Sam: "Stand back!"
The group stands back and he fires it to the left of the creature. The explosions frighten it and it backs to the right quickly and almost falls off an edge. It lifts up some legs to climb back up. It uncovers it's soft underbelly and Sam fires the last shots. It hits the underbelly and the Lurker falls backwards and roars. It roars once again and almost climbs back up, blood dripping from it's underbelly. The side of the platform by it cracks and falls away. The Lurker roars as it slowly lowers into the seven hundred foot abyss.
Jas: "Nice, man."
Brooke: "Not bad, kind of thought that was the end."
Devan: "Why was it here though? It's suppose to be Daum's pet."
Megan: "That mean we got Daum as well?"
Sam: "Nah, he wasn't on it."
Brooke: "Where is he then?"
Megan: "Yeah.. Where is the ugly b*****d?"
There's a loud bang and then everything went black. Sam came back to conciousness and saw Brooke kneeled over him. Devan and Jas firing at something. He couldn't hear, but could see the urgency in Brooke's movements. He got up and then his hearing started coming back.
Ch. 4 Pt. 2 - The End.
Brooke: "We've gotta go! They're all swarming! We need another route!"
Sam: "We don't have anywhere else but forward.." He gets up slowly and fires at the Swarm.
Jas: "Reloading!"
Devan: "Got it." He takes Jas's position as he reloads.
Jas: "Done." Devan moves over and Jas takes back his position.
Megan: "They're all down."
Brooke: "Even the Hades?"
Devan: "Affirmative."
Jas: "Samuel alright, Brooke?"
Sam: "I'll make it.."
They get up and continue walking. They keep Devan in the middle while the rest are on the outside. They walk over a huge stone bridge made from a stalacmite that fell over. They come to a giant honey-combed surface. Alex walks to the Bridgedier Tunnel and points at it.
Alex: "Right here."
Sam: "Thank you, Alex."
The rest pat her on the back and she smiles. Devan takes off the DESTINEE and gives it to Sam. He puts it on a rip-line and hooks it to a lowering mechanism. It lowers it down the tunnel and Sam stands back up.
Sam: "We're finished.. As soon as it hits the end of the line, it blows 30 seconds afterwards."
Jas: "Enough time to get away from the explosion?"
Sam: "Yeap, just enough too."
Brooke: "Lets get going than."
There's a loud screech as everyone covers their ears. A screecher comes running at them and Devan shoots it down. More of the Swarm starts coming.
Sam: "Major, what's your status?"
Major: "We're fine, they're either dead or pulling back."
Sam: "Exactly.. They're all coming for us!"
Major: "We don't have time to launch a squad to help you! Get out of there, son!"
Sam: "Lets go, people; lets go!"
They start running and shoot at anything chasing them or blocking their way. Sam puts a grenade on the stone bridge, and once they get across he blows it. The bridge cracks in half and falls. They keep running and take shelter behind a rock as more come ahead of them.
Sam: "Scratch that, we might not make it out of the blast zone."
Jas: "******** hell, man.. Gotten this far and just now they've decided to kill us?!"
Brooke: "Seems it.."
Megan: "This is bull s**t."
Devan: "Can't we get out somehow? Where's the Major?"
Sam: "I don't know and I don't know."
They take out the group in front of them and keep running. Sam stops and puts Alex over his shoulder. They keep running and make it to where the elevator is. Something in blood red armor and a huge shotgun walks out from behind the elevator.
Sam: "Stop!!"
The team stops and looks at the creature.
Daum: "Filth ridden land-walkers.."
Sam: "It's General Daum."
Brooke: "How do you know?"
Sam: "His armor and his gun."
Jas: "I thought he died with his Lurker."
Devan: "He wasn't on it.. It was a decoy."
Megan: "He was probably testing us.. Seeing how well we'd do."
Sam: "Most likely."
He fires the giant shotgun and the group takes cover. He walks towards them and keeps firing. Some of the Swarmers gather around him and screech as they fly in circles to protect him.
Sam: "We can't get'im! Those Swarmers are in the way!"
Alex: "Are we going to die?"
Brooke: "Shh.. Alex.. Don't think that."
Jas: "75% chance."
Devan: "Jas! Don't be a jackass!"
Jas: "I'm not, I'm telling it how it is!"
Megan: "We can see that."
Sam: "We've gotta go."
They stand and start leaving. A Screecher jumps Megan and punches it off and stomps on it's head.
Megan: "b*****d!"
She keeps stomping on it and forgets about the other problem.
Sam: "Megan! Lets go, no-"
Daum fires the shotgun and she falls back. Devan runs over and starts dragging her.
Devan: "It'll be fine, Megan.. You'll be fine.."
Sam: "Devan, hurry up!"
Devan: "I'm going as fast as I can!"
He puts her over his shoulder and starts running to the group. Daum takes out a revolver like pistol and shoots Devan through back. Devan keeps running for a bit then falls down to his knees slowly. He lays Megan down in front of him. He falls on his side next to her.
Sam: "Keep going.. We've gotta keep moving."
The Swarmers leave Daum as some sunlight peers in through a crack in the ceiling.
Sam: "Fire at him!"
The rest open fire, but his armor is too dense and made from a weird metal. They keep pulling back and Jas throws his gun aside. He runs at Daum and they both lock hands on each other's shoulders. Jas kicks him in the stomach and punches him in the face. Daum stumbles back some and punches Jas in the stomach. Jas falls back and rolls back to his feet. Jas runs at Daum and punches him in the face again. Daum kicks him back in a stalacmite and Jas gets back up. Daum takes the ridged sword off his back and grabs Jas by his collar. He raises him up and looks into his eyes. Jas smiles and laughs.
Jas: "You ugly peice of s**t stained crap that came from the depths of a mother ******** scumhole.."
Daum shoves the sword in his chest and rips it out. He drops Jas and walks to us. Sam and Brooke run towards him.
Sam: "Slide!"
Sam and Brooke slides by him and run towards the elevator. Sam puts Alex down and she runs ahead of them. Sam opens the elevator gate and pushes Alex and Brooke in. He closes the gate and nods to them.
Brooke: "What are you doing?! Get in here!"
Alex: "Sam! Get in!"
Sam: "No.. I've gotta distract him."
Brooke opens the gate and closes it behind her. She hits the bottun and it starts going up.
Alex: "Wait! No! Don't stay behind! You both could've made it! Please?! Stop the elevator and get back on!"
Alex falls on her knees and watches them slowly get smaller and smaller as Daum walks towards them. Alex reaches the top and sees some the other soldiers waiting. A man in little armor and a burst-shot gun looks at her. He has four silver stars on his helmet.
Alex: "Are you the Major?.." She wipes tears from her eyes.
Major: "That I am, and where is the rest of my soldiers?"
Alex: "Private Alex McVey reporting for duty.. Sir."
Major: "Just you then, hm?"
Alex: "Lieutenant Brooke stayed behind with Lieutenant Commander Samuel.."
Major: "I see.. And the others?"
Alex: "General Daum got Megan and then Devan.. Jas attacked Daum hand to hand, and Daum was able to get his sword out. Sam and Brooke.. I don't know what's happening to them."
Major: "Lets go, private."
Alex nods and gets out of the elevator. She follows them out and sees the huge area of land where the Hive's territory stood. The territory is now smoldering rocks with smoke and dead Swarm. They take her to an AVC and they head back to human territory.
Meanwhile:
Brooke and Sam punch Daum together and he stumbles back. He fends off both of them and punches Sam. He falls back and gets back up. Brooke kicks Daum in the stomach and Daum falls over a collapsed stalacmite. He kicks himself back up and takes out the pistol. He shoots Brooke in the stomach and Sam runs at him. He spears him with his shoulder into a stalacmite and starts continually punching Daum. Daum kicks Sam back and shoots him in the stomach as well. Daum picks him up by his collar and smiles. Sam reaches to a grenade and he spits in Daum's face. Daum glares and roars at him.
Sam: "You need a breathe mint.. But sorry.. Don't have any. Have this instead!" He shoves the grenade into Daum's mouth. "Oh, look at the time.. The bomb's reached the end of it's rope."
Daum tries to get the grenade out, and Sam pushes him back over a cliff. Daum screams and the grenade blows. A Grenadier trips over the cloaked rip-line machine. He gets up and looks at it.
Grenadier: "Mik toktz-xil?"
It's eyes widen and it starts running. The large bomb goes off and can be felt by the people in the AVC. Sam and Brooke almost above ground with the elevator. He drags her out as the elevator falls down the shaft. He keeps dragging her and finally gets away from anything severe. The ground above the explosion collapses into itself. Half of the mining installation goes down with it. Sam sits against a tree with Brooke in his arms.
Sam: "I remember when you first came.. You said.. 'My name's Brooke Cox, I'm a SEAL, and I do dumbass things.. I want wine for my men, hay for my horses, and something to blow the hell out of.' I laughed and said I could only do two things, since hay would be hard out in the desert."
Brooke: "Yeah.. I remember." She smiles.
Sam leans down and presses his lips to her.
Brooke: "Thank you, Sam.."
Sam: "You're welcome, lieutenant.."
Brooke: "It's Brooke."
Sam: "You're welcome.. Brooke."
Brooke's smile fades and so does Samuel's. A Grenadier in golden armor with spikes walks over by them.
Queen Toktz: "Such love for one another, wasted to try to save their species.. Though mine is withdrawn back to their first where-a-bouts.. We will rise once again, and then they will have to take the fight underground. Neither will win this war.. For there is nothing to win."
Samuel looks up at her and stares.
Sam: "You're.. The queen?.."
Queen Toktz: "I am, land-walker."
Sam: "I didn't think you were real.. Sad I can't tell the guys about this."
Queen Toktz: "I am sorry, land-walker. I must dispose of you now."
Sam: "Do it quickly then.." He pulls Brooke closer to him.
Queen Toktz: "At your request, Lieutenant Commander Samuel."
Sam: "I thought you knew me.. Like I knew you."
Queen Toktz: "The ears are everywhere."
Sam: "You knew of the bomb?"
Queen Toktz: "No, I did not know of it. The idea was great, but we will just build another main tunnel."
Sam: "Figures, well, do it quickly.."
She walks to him and takes out a blade. The queen looks at him as his head droops. She sighs and resheaths the sword.
Queen Toktz: "Rest now, warrior. You fought for your cause, and died in your duty. You are honorable, even if an enemy."
She climbs on the back of a Glider with a mounted chain-gun. It takes off into the air and she heads underground with it.
Major: "Did they say anything before they made you leave, any request?"
Alex: "No.. They didn't even speak."
Major: "Mm.. Honorable squad.. Even if they were a bunch of misfits."
Alex: "They didn't seem like a bunch of misfits.. They cared for one another.. They wern't a squad.. They were more of a family. They died as a family.. Sticking by one another."
Major: "They will be remembered."
Five years after the brilliant attack on the Hive, and the bomb that sealed the Bridgedeir tunnel, the war was still going. The war was not everywhere like it once was, but centralized underground and around main tunnels. The Swarm was held back, their marvelous Queen Toktz decided to hold position. They kept to protecting the main tunnels and did not venture out. The humans met with Queen Toktz and the two remaining generals. Queen Toktz made an agreement to stick to the tunnels. The humans still have bases that surround the main tunnels. Most believe they are rebuilding their forces, but no one knows. After another twenty some odd years, still no assault from below. The humans never gave up on the threat though. During a reconnasaince mission. Two Ghost ventured below to see what it was like. When they made it to the Hive's city. There was nothing, but they saw huge structures, and half-made metal structures. They took pictures and brought them back. Scientist took notes and came to one logical explanation.
Daniel Kleeve: "Here we are everyone, the day of the announcement of new findings after two Ghost from SEAL Team 2 went below on a reconnasaince. Over to the veiw, Tim?" The camera goes to the huge conference guilding, now the new Earth government HQ.
Tim: "Here, along with the announcement, happening now." The camera moves over to where the scientist is standing at a podium.
Dr. Zale: "Hello, Earth.. I have an announcement which will raise even more questions from many.. These structures we found underground, which are displayed behind me on the screen." A huge screen comes up with pyramid type structures suspended in the air, "We believe these are actually, aerial-based ships. They seemed to be in a hurry when building them, in fact, left behind some of their structures, half-built. We can only imagine why they did this, but we may never know."
