MOVIE REVIEW: The Happening
M. Night Shyamalan's latest film has been on DVD for a bit here now. I just finished watching the movie which promises a suspense filled story but really doesn't deliver.
The movie begins right away with the people in Central Park killing themselves, We then meet Mark Whalberg's character a teacher who is pulled from class to go to this little enclave to discuss this apparent "Terrorist" attack.
The rest of the movie is not only predictable the characters are shallow and seem naive and rather dim witted. This of course does not include the luke warm performance given by the cast. That's not the only problem either true to his style M. Night reveals his twist pretty early on. Which when it's finally emphasized near the end it leaves the audience with nothing to grab them as shocking.
In fact the only creepy thing about this movie is ONE of later death scenes which I will not get into. So my final review: I give "The Happening" a D+. The story could have been played out so much better than it was and I really didn't get a serious feel from the film at all. Had he put this out there as a comedy I might have bitten.
