Shinrai
  A poor boy, orphaned at birth. Secretly to him, the prince of the underworld everyone shunned him. With nowhere left to go, he sets off into the unknown looking for a place to belong.
Pa-Puru
 A rebellious, teenage, princess whose father wants married off. One day meeting Shinrai and immediately falling for him. Giving him obvious clues, he's incredibly oblivious.
Gary
 Being born blind, guided by his 'best friend' Pipper the imp, he's thought to be a dark, broody character. Truthfully, he has a kind, gentle soul and is quite shy.
Amee
 A mischievous bartender with severe schizophrenic problems and has trouble deciding between her imaginary princes, Derrick and Stephane.

Tenshi & Akuma
  Parents of the orphaned boy, Shinrai and his twin sister, Zetsubou. Thinking Shinrai could live a normal, human life; they left him on the door step of a monastery. Watching him grow up, they regret their decision. Waiting until his 18th birthday to try and bring him back to the underworld.
Zetsubou
  Shinrai's twin sister. Unknowing about her twin brother, she lives a spoiled bratty life as the princess of the underworld. Once knowing about Shinrai she goes mental and tries to find and kill him.
Uuba & Aatu
  Two crazy carnies with the talent of acrobatics and insane balance. They use their talents to help Shinrai to ward off Zetsubou's demon minions.
