WHOO! I'm back from Gencon, no longer have a voice, feel sick, and my feet and back still hurt. My computer charger also BLEW while I was in Indiannapolis, so I am temporarily on my Dad's.
This is for all the funny stories and pics. Some of the pics are also gonna go in the pic thread. ^_^
After the preliminary runaround of buying stuff (I HAS AN AXE NOW) and whooping 40+ year old men at battletech, I got around to my author/artist scuttle.
First up was Salvatore, on accident. Dad and I litterally bumped into the booth he was going to be signing at, and according to the sign, he was going to be there any minute. I pissed and moaned a bit about losing Homeland a few years ago, and Dad said, "Well, why don't you buy one of those books back there?" His latest that I've heard nothing but crap about. I went on a little rant about how much the book supposedly sucked and the epilogue ruined the series yadda yadda... "Hey Gale!" "-Not paying any money for that peice of cra-what?" "Turn around." So I did. SALVATORE WAS TWO FRICKEN FEET BEHIND ME. burning_eyes Yeah I died. Right there. Boom. Dead. I DON'T think he heard me though because he was nothing but a sweet heart the whole time. He had a demo chapter of his latest book that he signed for me (coming out in october), and he signed the demo chapter of the book he and his son co-wrote (coming out in september).
That was Me and Salvatore, while I was half in my gypsy getup.
2/3 of the only drow cosplayers there. They hate Drizzt, and were laughing at the people in line for Salvatore's autograph. These people couldn't walk TWO FEET up past the line without getting pulled aside for pictures.
THEN, the "Killer Breakfast with the Hickmans" was a couple days later. For the Dragonlance fans, yes. Tracey and his wife Laura Hickman. They're funny as hell. ANYWAY, Salvatore and his son, Geno, attended. Geno. Is. Hotter. Than. HELL. Pretty damn funny too. The killer breakfast is pretty much a parody D&D session... from hell. When asked by Tracey what he was doing in response to the dragon breathing fire on him, Geno said he was hiding behind his Dad's ego and Tracey laughed too hard to kill him. Salvatore, however, did not.
THEEEEN, since this was the 20th anniaversary of Drizzt Do'Urden's first literature appearance (I have the commemorative shirt on now ^_^) a party/signing session was held at "The Ram," A local pub. Dad, my sis, and I all went to go to dinner and then the party. Raja and I were all complaining about how sore we were for walking and again: "Hey Gale, turn around." ... "Well Mr. Salvatore! Nice to see you guys have to wait in line too!" Got to sit there and talk embarassing 'one-upping-your-parents-at-their-own-game' with his OTHER hotter-than-hell son.

There was also a Guen cake. We were lucky enough to be there when they made Salvatore cut the cake. He kept stalling, and stalling, and stalling, then just stopped all "I don't want to do this guys!" We all died. Guen-guen tasted very good by the way. (I felt kinda bad 'cause I asked him about his guen kitty but apparently they put her down recently... >.> ))

And then Salvatore's friend, Ed Greenwood, another D&D author since the 70s. They looped an arm around their shoulders for pictures, then some wiseass in the back was all "KISS KISS!" Salvatore paled, started pulling away, and frantically warned the croud: "DON'T TELL HIM THAT HE'LL DO IT!" All our pictures of them were blurry since Salvatore kept trying to scurry away from "the D&D Santa Claus."
