It's been a while since i read up on this stuff, so it not exactly matching my memory of what happened could as easily be my fuzzy memory as the film's fault. Either way, I know the broad strokes are correct and the film itself is everything I could have hoped. The period feel was beautifully evoked, the acting first rate, and some of the characterizations were charming. This is a long movie, but it doesn't feel like it. It takes it's time when it needs to, but it never drags. I was quite happy with the portrayal of the land itself in all it's moods. I was all pleased to see that the tough, practical Mongol women got their due.
I did have some quibbles with the fight scenes, which were not as well shot as the other actions and not entirely accurate to Mongol tactics, but overall, I was genuinely pleased.
