Advice of the Day: eat well and exercise regularly.
My apologies for my sudden and unannounced absence from Gaia (and Gaia work stuffs) lately. I was hospitalized for an illness, the cause of which the doctors never did actually manage to diagnose. Some of the possibilities raised were pneumonia (surprise! x-ray), gallstones (two ultrasounds), an inflamed gallbladder (MRI scans while holding my breath, OMG) and hepatitis (what seemed like whole pints of my blood being removed from my body for various tests over the course of three days). The possibility of needing to inject me with radioactive isotopes or opening me up in order to remove my gallbladder (or just find it in the first place...apparently I have a very tiny, camera-shy gallbladder) were raised. I was a touch anxious throughout this whole ordeal.
One might think that being hospitalized would be restful, aside from whatever illness one was suffering from. After all, you have nothing to do but eat, rest and entertain yourself. Registered nurses do all the "cooking and cleaning" for you and on top of that are at your beck and call-button should you wish another pillow of cup of ice chips. One would be wrong.
Once they had broken my high fever, I actually felt pretty well and began to wish to go home. They would not discharge me, however, until they could be reassured by more tests that I was improving or they were able to diagnose what had give me the fever and made my tests results so WHOAMG in the first place. So, for a while, I was stuck on a clear liquid diet and left to catch what sleep I could in between IV machine alarms, vital sign checks and blood draws. The longer I stayed, the worse I felt, and I'm pretty sure that my current enfeebled state is almost entirely owing to lack of sleep and the stress of being in the hospital.
This is not to say that I think the doctors should have discharged me as soon as I began to whine to go home. They acted responsibly and did what they deemed best for my health. Nor do I expect hospitals to waste money outfitting their rooms like a suite at the Westin. I'm just saying that for me, being hospitalized sucks through no fault of anyone's.
Needless to say, I am exceedingly grateful to be out, and to have been able to spend my birthday at home with my family instead of tossing and turning in a hospital bed.
Other than headaches, which are probably just due to lack of sleep and regular food, I'm feeling fairly normal, although weak as a kitten. Any normal activity puts me in a sweat within minutes. My apetite is slowly returning, but I'm only able to eat a handful of food in one sitting. My birthday dinner was half a California roll, two pieces of chicken from a skewer of yakitori and a few edamame. And I regretting eating the final California roll slice, as I felt a bit overstuffed. In comparison, generally I can tuck away a salad, two rolls and two or three nigiri all by myself and still be eyeing my husband's tempura or my son's chicken karaage.
Oh, one bit of silver lining out of the hospitalization - other than my overall new-found appreciation of my health and other such blessings - is that Hubby bought me a PSP and Crisis Core to help while away the hours in between tests. Zack is so cute. *pets his head*

Hubby is definitely a keeper. X3 He's patient and supportive but also keeps me in line, which I definitely need. I don't know what I'd do without him!
And actually now that I've been discharged from the hospital I haven't been able to play much. *laugh* Pixelling > PSP! I'm really happy to have this game though. It's so pretty~ @-@ And I'm a total whore for anything FFVII. That was the first game I played when I started to get back into videogames, and I became completely addicted. Played it over and over, drew crappy fanart, wrote hideous fanfiction, all that good stuff. XD
Thank you all for your well wishes and fun comments. It's really fun for me to see the responses and to hear your thoughts on various matters. ^^

I'm glad you got to have your birthday at home. Also, yay for husbands who provide the joy of game systems. He's obviously a keeper. 3nodding
