Characters
I've been working out more back story of my main OC Altria.She's a persona I've used in all kinds of role plays and she's main character of many a story I've written.In each world,she's different but there are patterns that emerge..I know it's better to try using different characters so you can grow in experience instead of shoehorning yourself to particular style..but..Altria is an extension of me.In fact...she is me,if I grew up in such a world and had same things happen.Using her for many years now,in each new world I place her into,new layers of story open.My friend likes to say,"By getting to know our characters well we authors get to know ourselves." I fully agree.Altria has now become a three dimensional character that's as complex as a real person.Perhaps I've lost out on diversity but I've gained on complexity.All the threads that go into making real, believable character are now easier for me to see.
