Epilogue
A low growl was emitted from the throat of the being that used to be her friend. His skin had been tainted an ugly purple, his eyes solid white and emotionless. She wanted to speak, to understand what had happened to him, though her fear prevented any words from escaping. Faster than the human eye could trace, he had entered the village. A loud explosion snapped her out of her daze as she chased after her friend. Sliding to a stop, a scene straight out of a nightmare unfolded before her. The entire village surrounded the child tainted evil. Then, the child disappeared into nothingness. A confused village watched cautiously. A man from the village suddenly dropped to the ground with a gash across his back. Horrified, a few tried to flee. They too met the same fate. All she could do was watch in horror. One by one they fell like puppets with severed strings. When all that remained was a landscape laden with the corpses of the villagers, the boy suddenly reappeared, a blank look devoid of emotion plastered on his face. With a sudden motion, he clasped onto his head and started to scream. Dropping down to his knees, the boy’s appearance began to change to that of his former self. His skin returned to a slight peach tint, his eyes once again normal. As his demonic look faded, he fell to the ground unconscious. The girl ran to his side as fast as her legs would allow, and kneeled down before his unmoving body. He was a mess, hands covered in blood that wasn’t even his own. Checking for a pulse, she was greeted with a grim truth: The boy, her friend, was no longer with her. Laying her head down on his chest, she wept for her friend. Storm clouds began to fill the sky, and a light rain fell over the area. After all they had overcome together, and all they had worked for, the girl was now on her own once more. The girl, eyes bloodshot with tears, picked up her friend’s body and made her way to the only place she knew would be appropriate. The boy had shown it to her once before during their travels. She reached a small clearing, not far from the village. Laying the body of her friend down next to the unmarked grave that had been dug up, she gently placed her friend's body into the now open grave. Leaning down, she gave him one last kiss before beginning to bury the body. She finished and stood, bowing to the grave. Turning around to walk away, she gave one last glance back. As she walked off into the darkness of the night, the rainfall intensified. The girl’s tears mixed with the falling rain. A hole had been left in her heart that would never mend. She had nothing left in this world, no purpose in life. She had not lost the will to go on, though she lost the will to speak. The girl took shelter under a large tree whose roots had partially grown above ground, creating a sort of cave. As she sat in the darkness alone, her mind was blank. She knew not of what to do. She had nowhere to go, no one to go to. The soft trickle of the rain outside sliding down the tree roots signaled the end of the rain, though it didn’t matter. The girl’s mind was cloudier than any rainstorm. Her eyes had lost the shine that they once possessed, and now appeared dull and listless. Fate had dealt a cruel hand. A fog began to roll in after the rain had subsided. The night air was thick, humid, and had a feeling of desperation and sorrow. Just as the storm from before had quieted down, so had the storm of her mind. As her thoughts slowed, her eyelids became heavy. Her journey would begin anew come the morrow, a journey of solitude and regret. However, as each old door closes, a new one shall open…
