“Hey baby!” shouted a voice.
I turned around to see who it was. I smiled as I saw Nick ran toward me. When he got to me, he gave me a peck on the cheek, and said, “What sup?” “Nothing interesting, except the part when I was kinda in a coma for several hours,” I replied, flicking my hair.
“Ouch, I know how you feel. Wait, no I don’t. But my sister knows how you feel. Remember? She was in a car accident and was in a coma for several months,” he said, shaking his head. I patted his back as he was explaining the story. “She died just last year. On my birthday.” he said, with tears in his eyes. I felt so sorry for him. I never had a brother or a sister. My parents could barely take care of me.
“By the way, the guy who held your hand yesterday? I saw him. Yes I did. And you know what? I gave him a punch in the right eye, and said, don’t mess with my girl again. Yup, that’s what I said,” he exclaimed, puffing out his chest. I gawked at him. “YOU WHAT??” I asked, shaking Nick violently. Nick is awfully fragile for a guy who’s on the football team. “Chill! Calm down! He’s ok! I think. He’s in the nurse’s office right now I guess. Oh yeah, I can’t walk you home next week. I have detention because I punched him. “Well, you deserved it! How could you be so cruel??” I yelled, pushing him against the lockers. “Susie! What is the matter with you?? I gave him a punch! So what? What’s so special about him? We’re boyfriend and girlfriend! For Pete’s sakes, calm down!” he shouted, pushing me against the wall. “Is there something I need to know around here?” he asked, leaning close to me.
I relaxed for a moment to think what I was doing. “Umm, I’m just having a bad day, that’s all. I’m sorry I yelled at you. I’m having a headache right now; I really don’t feel well. I’ll see you tomorrow at school ok?” I said finally. Nick looked a lot better after that. “Cool, I’ll see you there.” I waited until Nick walked around the corner; I turned around and started to run to the nurse’s office to check out how Jake was doing. When I finally reached there, I was about to open the door. But I stopped myself. What am I doing, I thought. I don’t like him. Why should I worry about Jake? I mean he was the one who left me six years ago. But you still have feelings for that boy don’t you? Said another voice. Ugh, my mind is playing tricks with me, how nice. I sighed and decide that I should just forget about him. I turned and walked away. I heard the door opened, and turned around. There he was, walking out of the door, looking all cool again. Except for that black eye. I sniggered when I saw him. He also laughed. “It’s pretty funny isn’t it?” he asked, walking toward me. I stepped back a few steps and said, “Don’t think I will forgive you just because you made me laugh,” He walked even closer. “Sky, I’m really sorry that I left you. I had no choice. Sure, you can slap me a million times, but I will always love you,” I backed away as far as I could from him. I looked at him in disgust. “You’re pathetic, you know that? By the way, you did have a choice. But in the end, you chose a stupid one. What kind of a friend are you? Also, it’s Susie, not Sky. Sky was the girl you loved six years ago. Susie? She’s taken by Nick Duso,” I retorted. Before he could say a thing, I turned my back on him and walked away.
