The Fox and The Girl


Arethia was walking in the woods. She heard a roar and ran to the sound. She came through some bushes and saw what had made the sound. It was a bear attacking something. At first she couldnt see what the bear was attacking. Then she saw a girl run to one side of the bear. To Arethia's surprise the girl had a fox tail and fox ears. The girls clothes were ripped and bloody. The girl ran toward the bear and jumped. The bear swiped its claw and slashed the girl on her side. The girl fell to the ground. She was unconsious. then the bear started toward her. Arethia cried out " No! Dont hurt her!" The bear turned to Arethia, growled, and walked away. Arethia ran over to the girl. The girl had a deep gash on her side and scratches all over her body. ' oh my, i wonder how long she was defending herself.' Arethia picked the girl up and took her home. She tended to the girls wounds and put her in a bed.
A day passed and the girl still hadn't stired. Arethia was changing the girls bandages when she stired. The girl opened her eyes. She asked, " what happened?" Arethia said, " a bear was attacking you. The bear hit you with it's claws and you went unconsious. I yelled at the bear to go away and it went away." " oh well thank you foe helping me." The girl sat up slowly. Arethia pushed he backdown, " Dont move to much. You wounds will reopen." The girl relaxed a little. Then she asked, "Why are you taking care of me? You could be doing something else." Arethia shook her head. " Your are no trouble. I'm helping you because your hurt. If i had left you there you could have died. Ok this is going to hurt a little." She put a wet cloth on the gash and started gently washing away the blood. The girl winced a little and Arethia saw the girls ears twitch. " So what's your name?" "You can call me Fox." " Ok Fox my name is Arethia." Arethia put a clean bandage on Fox's wound ad left the room. She came back with water and food. She gave Fox The food. Fox said "thanks" Fox sniffed the food out of habit. She picked at it for a while. Foxes eyes started to close and she fell asleep.
A week passed before Arethia let Fox get out of bed. Foxes wounds had almost completely healed except for the gash on her side. Arethia was taking the bandges off of Fox's face when she saw marks. There were two black lines on both sides of her face across her cheeks. Sh asked, " How did you get these marks?" " I was born with them." " I see. Well, your almost completly healed so i wanted to know if you wanted to come outside with me today." " Yes, i do." Fox got out up and stretched. She followed Arethia outside. They started walking. They walked in the woods for a while. Arethia stopped walking. Fox stopped and perked her ears. She listened. Then she heard a sound. Fox bounded off in the direction of the sound. Arethia followed. Fox ran through some bushes and saw a wolf cub in the river. Without a second thought Fox jumped into the water and swam down the river to the cub. She grabbed the cub in her mouth and started swimming to the shore. She pulled herself onto the bank. Arethia ran over to Fox and took the cub from Fox and put it in her arms. Fox started shaking off the water. " Arethia is the cub ok?" " Yes, she is ok" " we should probebly go back." "good idea" Fox took the cub back into her arms. The cub snuggled closer to Fox. Fox started walking back and Arethia followed.
They got back and Arethia lit a fire. Fox laid down by the fire and curled up. The wolf cub curled up next to her. Fox smiled and put her tail over the cub. Arethia saw something strange. The gash on Fox's side was uncovered,since the bandges had been washed off, and it started healing really fast in the heat. ' wow thats strange.'
It was the next day and Fox told Arethia that she needed to go home She said," i wont ever forget your kindness. I hope one day we meet again so i can repay it." Fox started walking away.. The cub followed her but she didnt know.
It's been three weeks since Arethia met Fox and she hasnt seen her since she left. Arethia missed Fox and wondered where she was, how she was doing, and what she was doing. She was taking her daily walk when she decided to go into town. She stepped into town and two palace guards walked up to her. " Um... can i help you?" " Yes, please come with us. Dont worry your not in trouble. " Arethia nodded and followed them. They led her to the palace. She was taken to the queen's chamber. The queen approched her and she bowed. " I have been watching you Arethia. I have seen your good deeds and how much you care for the earth. I consider you worthy to become the Winter Princess." Arethia looked shocked. " you will take over in a week. Go back home and gather your things Come back tommorrow and a room will be ready for you." Arethia bowed and went home. She got to her house and thought, ' wow the queen wants me to take over. i wonder why she chose me over all those other girls in the kingdom.' She packed her things and went to bed.
Arethia woke up the next day and headed into town. A guard led her to a room. " This is where you will stay.If you need anything just call." The guard left the room and she started to unpack. Arethia spent the week learning a little about being a princess. It was finally the day of her corrination. She put on an icy blue dress and walked into the ball room. The ceremony was done and the queen said, " Arethia, you have chosen to give up you name and rule this kingdom. My people i give you the new Winter princess." There was a lot of cheering. " Let the dance begin." The princess danced for a little while. Then she went outside to the garden. She didn't see a pair of eyes watching her. She sat down in the garden. She heard a rustle but didn't think of it as a threat. She heard another rustle and something attacked her. It pinned her to the ground and raised a hand to strike. It froze and she heard a gasp. The princess looked up. It was Fox! "Arethia? It's you." Fox backed off. " your the new Winter Princess?" The princess nodded. " i'm so sorry." Fox helped the princess up. "it's ok Fox" " i am called the Fox Tamer, but your a friend so you can call me fox." "Ok Fox Tamer, why are you here?" " My family is a clan of foxes and we hate winter. I was sent to get rid of the new Winter Princess, but now that i know it's you i cant do it. Now that i know it's you i will protect you from the others. They will come trying to destroy winter."
(Three months later)
The Fox Tamer has protected the princess from many threats. A big threat has just been revealed. The princess walked to Fox's room. She knocked." come in" She entered. Fox is sharpening a sword. " When are you leaving?" "I'm leaving tommorrow. I won't be gone long." " Fox promise me that you will be careful." Fox put her sword in it's sheath. " i promise princess."
(The next day)
Fox is standing outside of the castle in the snow. The princess came outside. " Fox do you need a horse?" " No princess" Fox whistled. A big wolf bounded into view. Fox laughed. " Remember that wolf cub. well she followed me the day i left. Now she is my best friend,Eve." Fox jumped on the wolf's back and rode off. ' Fox be careful.
Fox rode Eve to a dark cave. "This is the place." She got off Eve and went into the cave. Eve followed. Fox pulled out her sword. A great shadow appeared and Fox attacked.
Fox has been fighting the shadow for a while. Both her and Eve are covered in blood. " Eve get out of here. Go back to the princess. Eve ran out of the cave reluctantly. Fox held up her sword and attacked the shadow one last time.
poor winter princess, the fox tamers loyal wolf returned with out its fox master covered in blood and now she thinks the fox is dead. She sits in the rain with the wolf in mourning
The Fox Tamer slowly limps to the princess. her wounds clearly visible. " My princess, there is no need to fear. the evil trying to destroy winter has been defeated." fox sits next to the princess " i sent my friend to you so she wouldnt get hurt."
she is do happy when she sees he fox, but a little basful when shes her friend's companion. "Who is he?"
"this is Cain. he has helped me get back to you,my princess. he also helped me beat the evil."
"Then Cain, I am indbted to you." she bowed her head, then flipped shut her fan. She held the parasol over the fox, covering her from the rain.
"I missed you."
fox leans over and huggs the princess " i missed you too. but at least you are safe." fox then looks at Cain "Cain, come sit down." Cain sits down next to fox
slowly the rain turned to a lift snow. Instead of making the three cold it seemed to caress them. "I wonder what will happen now..."
fox looks at the princess. "I think we should get you back to the castle,princess. We need to prepare incase the evil attacks again." fox gets up,but stumbles
the winter princess caught the fox and with the help of Cain put hre on the wolf and led the wolf back to the castle. The fox was laid on a bed and tended to. The winer princess herself saw to the foxs healing
fox lays in the bed asleep. she starts to toss and turn. -dream- fox is standing out in the snow. she sees the princess sitting on the hill near where they had first met. fox sees a flash and feels a masive wave of heat. she blinks and the princess is lying on the ground bleeding. fox runs over to her. then she turns around and is staring into darkness.-end dream- fox shoots up into a sitting position. she is panting. unknown to her one of her wounds has reopened.
The winer princess quickly held the fox down. "Please, be still. Don't worry I am here." the winter princess smiled, but it was wan. It was strangely warm in the castle, and the princess was having a little trouble breathing. SHe wouldn tell the fox that though
fox sniffs the air." princess i smell something. where is my wolf friend? "foxes eyes darted around the room.she sniffs again ' there is something here. something that doesnt belong.'fox thought. " where is Cain? "
Meanwhile the winter princess had slipped further into her chair. Her eyes were closed and she was deathly still.
fox gets out of bed and goes over to the princess."Cain, hurry i need your help!" Cain rushes in. "fox what is it? Wait, you should still be in bed." "Cain, please dont mind me. But Please help me get the princess outside. she is my best friend. she helped me in a bad situation a long time ago. i promised her that i would protect her because of the kindness she showed me! Please just help me!" fox and Cain got the princess out into the snow. "Cain listen to me. you have to protect the princess. promise me that you will."Cain nodded his head. fox whistled and her wolf friend came to her. " come on we have to destroy that thing in the castle." she grabbed the sword from Cain's side, hopped on to her friend and rode back into the castle.
the winter princess lay in the snow, still scarily warm. She stirred slightly as the fox left. "No! don't-" she whispered as loud as she could before collapsing back in the snow.
Fox...
You can't stop this evil...
You can' save me...
I sense it...
It has put a poison in me...
Fox!
fox stopped at the princess's voice. she turned."pricess you have called me fox since we met all that time ago. my real name is Ava." hoping that the princess heard her Ava turned back around and faced the castle. 'princess i know that you are poisoned.i smelled it but i didnt want Cain to freak out. i will get the antidote for you. i promise.' Ava went into the castle and started up the stair to the tower.
"Ava...
Please...
Don't die..."
She sunk into the snow, and much to Cain's alarm began to be covered by it.
"Fox, what do I do?! THe snow is swallowing her!"
Ava got to the top pf the stairs and looked around. she saw a table with chemicals on it. then she sniffed. she looked at a tube full of blue liquid. she snuck into the shadows and creeped closer. she quickly grabbed the tube and sniffed.'yep this is the antidote.' Ava heard an evil voice say " you think that i am going to let you take the antidote this easily? then you are a fool." Ava said."no i dont expect this to be easy." Ava quickly slipped the antidote to the wolf. she whispered," when you get a chance, Eve, get out of here and get that to the princess." Ava pulled the sword out of its sheath. the voice said, " oh are you ready to die? well seeing as your wounds from your fight with my brother have opened up again i will make your death quick and easy." Ava smirked,"i wont give up that easy" a man stepped out of the shadows. "well Ava, why do you chose to protect this winter princess? why did you leave the clan of the firefoxes to protect her? you were just like us. you wanted winter to be destroyed." " i was never like you. i always had doubts about getting rid of winter. the princess showed me that winter is not bad.she helped me out of a jam. i owe her my life." Ava charged at the man. he pulled out his sword and blocked her attack. Ava did a quick move and stabbed him. " is this anyway to fight with your father? her father stepped back and started to grow. he grew until he broke through the roof. he was a fox made of fire. Ava growled. her teeth grew larger, her eyes turned red, and she sprouted four more tails and all her tails caught fire. she grew larger as well.
Eve saw an opening and darted through the door. Eve ran out of the castle to the princess. Eve dropped the antidote into Cain's hands.
Cain grabbed with a look of relief and started digging up th snow to find the winter princess. He dug and dug but to no avail. He started to panic.
"Where are you?"
Deep beneath the Earth the Winter Princess looked around. She saw many others like her, previous monarchs of the winer season. She suddenly realised. The world had a cycle, day, night, dark, light, summer, winter. For to long winter had held sway, now it was the naural time for summer to take it's place.
"But first I have to help Ava."
She shot up through the snow, ignoring the searing heat.
"Ava!" she shouted.
"Forget it! Stop this fight!
Ava turned suddenly. she looked at the princess.' oh no. i didnt want the princess to see me like this' she whimpered. her father looked at the princess. " ah there is the princess that my daughter is so bent on protecting." he charged at the princess. Ava ran behind him, jumped on his back, and bit his neck. he thrashed but she held on. he grabbed her and through her off his back. but the bite that Ava had given him was to much. he fell over and was still. Ava got up, looked at the princess, whimpered, and ran of into the woods. she got to a river and colapsed,still in her firefox form.
The Winter princess was not even thinking of what her friend looked like. She ran as fast as she could to Ava. She found her collapsed. She made a quick descion. She quickly pulled Ava out of the water, laying her down. Sh drew a strange circle around Ava with lots of markings around it. She stepped over it and crossed her hands. She glowed with a bluish white light and transfered her life force to Ava. Whn the spell was finished she collapsed next to Ava. For the first time she felt cold. She lay next to Ava, almost dead and soon to be so.
"Wake up Ava..."
Ava transformed back into her human form. her eyes twiched and she opened them. her wounds still hurt from all the stress. she looked around and her eyes landed on the princess. she pulled herself over to the princess and took the princess's hand." no please no. dont leave. please." Ava felt the coldness of the princess's hand. single tear fell from Ava's eyes. Ava gasped,"what is this? a tear? but how? i cant cry because of what i am." she pulled the princess into her arms. the tear on her face fell onto the princess. Cain came running. he heard Ava say, "princess. i am so sorry. i couldnt protect you. i am sorry that you had to see me in my other form." Cain walked over to Ava,sat down, and hugged her. Eve walked up to them. Ava looked at Eve, "thank you for all your help, Eve.
you too Cain. i just wish that i could have saved her."
The Winter princess began to sift away like snow on the wind.
An unearthly voic whispered he the trees.
"Ava, Summer Queen, look after this world until my kin once again rule here. Keep balance and peace. I entrust this world to you Summer Queen. Throw away your name, take up the mantle, and bring warmth back."
Ava nodds, " i promise to keep peace and i wont break this promise." Cain looked at Ava
"Ava i know that she is proud to be your friend." Cain lifted her chin and looked into her eyes. he kissed her.
Ava stood up." i am now the Summer Queen. and i vow to watch over the world."
-next winter-
The Summer Queen greeted the new Winter Princess. " i trust the world to you now" The Summer Queen started to fade. she opened her eyes. she was in a mist. she looked over to her right and saw her friend. she smiled and went over to her.
The winter princess threw her arms around the summer queen.
"I am so proud to be your friend!"
She showed her to the castle where all the monarchs lived. They lived like normal people. It was a normal town, where younger monarchs went to school and older to work. All waiting for when they would be reincarnated to rule again.
