The forest was bigger than Melphina expected and the sudden sounds and movements that seem to come from everywhere at once scared her. And yet she remained strong. "Big Brother, can I ask you something?" Melphina asked quietly, moving closer to him for protection.
"What is it Little One?" Koji asked just as quietly, carefully surveying their surroundings incase something popped up. He would protect Melphina until the very end no matter what.
"Big Brother...?" she mumbled as she slowed to a stop, still holding his hand tight. She gave her teddy bear a squeeze as she stared at the floor and blushed as the sting of tears protruded from her eyes. "Big Brother, you'll never leave me by myself, will you...?"
Koji's eyes widened as he too stopped. What caused her to think such a thought? He pondered her question quietly. "Of course not Melphina. I'd never leave your side, ever." Koji knelt down to his little sisters height as he spoke. "I promise that I'll always protect you."
Melphina's eyes began to shed tears as she suddenly hugged him tightly. For some reason, something scared her. It wasn't the noises, or the movement of the forest nor the very forest itself. It was something that she just couldn't explain. For some reason she thought she might lose her Big Brother. Very soon....
As he listened to his little sister's silent cries, Koji Rose carried Melphina Rose away into the forest again for the very last time....
