Okay, so the story about the murder...
Several years ago a young woman was murdered by her boyfriend's brother, Jared. (Jared is the dude that killed the girl). My closest and dearest friend in real life went to high school with Jared. She hadn't spoken with Jared in a number of years and wasn't aware (yet) about the murder.
So, because she hadn't heard from him in ages, she was quite surprised when a handwritten letter arrived at her apartment - from Jared. She was completely unaware at this time what he had done, but since the letter came from the prison she figured he did something -
Another woman in my friend's apartment complex also went to high school with them - and she had also received various letters from Jared - only she knew what he had done. So my friend and this other girl got together and my friend found out what had happened - the full story.
Jared has been in prison awaiting trial for the murder of his brother's girlfriend - and the kidnapping of his brother's best friend. It's been a while because Jared was diagnosed with schitophrenia (sp?) and was "unfit" to stand trial --
Now, they have Jared's medications straightened out and the trial was scheduled. My friend went to her mail box and there was a legal sized envelope with a ten page handwritten letter - halfway through confessing to the murder and describing several aspects of it.
So much for his "not guilty" plea.
The homicide division took the letter and presented it into evidence - and the trial has again been postponed - this time until the defense can try to enter a plea.
