Birthdays
Lazarous' birthday was on May 22. Happy Birthday to him! whee
Pocky's Art Auction PockyFille held an Art Auction recently, and I won it. ninja Mwahahaha. My first one. wink But since I owe my friend Aeren a gift, I decided to give it to her. This is also a futile attempt on my part to prevent myself from being another type of whore; mainly an Art Whore. xp (I'm just kidding. sweatdrop ) But check out Pocky's art. The dreaded [ Message temporarily off-line ] is affecting the thread, but she does have lovely art. whee
Moving
I'll miss my big house. crying Not that it's all that big. It's just that this new place I'm living in is quite a bit smaller. sweatdrop And now everything is so cramped. I can't even set up my own computer (I'm using the old one right now), because there's no room. >_< The new place was already furnished, and now we're just shoving in the rest of our furniture wherever we can. Not the smartest idea ever. xp The new place is quite nice, but I'm spoiled...even though I've been living in an even smaller dormitory for the past eight months. *scratches head* O_o
But I suppose it has a lot to do with never moving in my life. Er, university not included. I'm leaving the house I've lived in all my life. gonk Which is some twenty odd years, because I'm old. @_o
...Anyway, I know I'm very lucky to have a nice place to stay. heart I'm not begrudging it; it's mainly the memories that I will miss. I just have a tendency to become melodramatic when I write here. sweatdrop
Entertainment
(I really need to get a life. sweatdrop )
Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton I know I'm a nerd, because I actually understood some of the stuff in the book. The scientific stuff, I mean. Or more specifically, all the biological classfication stuff, as well as the cloning procedures. The thing is, I felt I should have understood more. Stupid brain. xp
But there was some nice scientific philosophy in the book. About how science is a form that does not have its discipline increase with its power. He uses a black belt in karate as an example. I'm not good at explaining thing like this (unlike some people...), so I'll just selectively quote. xd
Quote: By the time someone has acquired the ability to kill with his bare hands, he has also matured to the point where he won't use it unwisely. So that kind of power has a built-in control. But scientific power is like inherited wealth: attained without discipline. The person who kills is the person who has no discipline, no restraint, and who has purchased his power in the form of a Saturday night special. And that is the kind of power that science fosters, and permits.
I don't remember if they put that in the movie version. I haven't seen it since it first came out. xd
Hero A splendour of colours. whee I would have loved it if I had seen it on the big screen, but I had to settle for DVD. Anyway, the action sequences were lovely. The storyline was somewhat atypical, but that adds to the originality...I think. I don't see a lot of movies, so maybe it really is a typical story.
The middle part of the story surprised me, though. Although my dad, who enjoys spoiling movies because he always knows what's going to happen next, actually didn't spoil it for me! surprised The only problem was that I knew what would happen in the ending, the historical part of it, I mean. So the ending was predictable, just because it ended up that way in history. If the whole thing was fictional, and not just a part of it, I would have found the ending more thrilling. 3nodding
I'm going to bed. As I'm sure anyone who actually read the whole thing is likely to do now. >_>;
