Two Hours Later
Killisar followed Dinin out of his own will, having exhausted himself fighting against his brother's magic. Dinin looked around as they came out of the woods. He saw a massive village, big enough to be a city, but not enough people. He tapped his hand on his sword and smirked.
He walked toward it, hidden by the night shadows. He reached a massive wooden game and smiled. He slashed two lines in it which slowly fell down, leaving a triangular door. He knelt down and slipped in. He looked around for guards but saw none.
He nodded in approval. This will fit nicely for my needs. He thought. He heard Lokewen and Killisar follow him as he walked up the stone ground toward the palace.
The village seemed to be empty, which made him pleased. He saw a flash of movement in one of the nearby houses and spun to face it. He was immediately running into it. He kicked down the door and looked around, his purple eyes seeing easily in the dark areas. He saw two elves in the corner, hiding from him.
But the thing that struck him was what kind of elves they were.
Dark elves.
Dinin stared at them and found himself becoming sick. There were more. More like him. He slowly walked toward them. They were not from the Do'Urden family. No, from a different lower family who's name escaped his mind at the moment with all the adrenaline.
But they were dark elves all the same. He knelt down beside the two children and slowly crossed his arms across his chest in the drow's sign of peace. They slowly and shakily did the same.
"Where are your parents?" He asked her. They looked at each other, then back at him.
"They're hunting. They've been gone for a while. A week or so." The girl whispered through a hoarse, thirsty voice. He looked at her with pity for the first time.
The thought that there were more drow made him extatic! Of course, he showed no sign of it, but his mind was racing with the possibilities. A drow city! A drow city of his own! He nodded.
He held his hand out to them and the girl took it slowly while the boy took it immediately.
"My name is Diedria Mo'Dries." She said. "This is my brother Friendook Mo'Dries." She continued. He nodded. Mo'Dries, that's right. He thought.
He sighed. "I'm guessing you wish to know my name then." He said slowly. She nodded slowly and sheepishly. "My name is Dinin Do'Urden." He said finally. They cringed, as if thinking he was going to slaughter them immediately. "No need to worry, children." He said as he helped them up. "I will not bring you harm. I have plans to make this village into a city." He said, wondering why he was saying all of this.
They seemed relieved by the thought of a drow city.
When Killisar saw the children he was immediately happy that he had come. But as soon as he felt that happiness, he realized that there were more drow. Drow that could possibly attack him for being a traitor and enemy of the Spider Queen. He looked around cautiously. He wasn't in the state to fight, physically exhausted from fighting Dinin's magic. He looked at Lokewen.
She was sorrowful to see drow kids in such a state. She hurried over to them, despite the fact that she was their mortal enemy. They immediately went stiff, but seeing that she was worried about them, calmed down slowly.
Killisar looked around and slowly began to inch away from them. Dinin heard the movement and looked at him.
"Where do you think you're going?" He asked angrily. Killisar ignored him and began to walk toward the front gate. He had to get out of here. It was an enemy hive! "Killisar! Get back here!" He yelled furiously. Killisar heard Dinin begin to walk after him. He would not be stopped by his weaker older brother.
"Get lost, Dinin. I've beat you twice, don't make me do it again." He said angrily. Dinin frowned.
"Killisar, no matter how much I hate to say this, I actually need your help." He muttered under his breath. Killisar sighed.
"Dinin, I can't stay here. Not with all these drow here." he said as he looked straight ahead. Dinin cursed.
"Who cares about them? The fact that they're even here goes against a ton of drow laws. They won't care about your betrayel. If some one's gonna kill ya, it'll be me."
"And that makes me want to stay.... how?" He asked angrily. Dinin growled angrily. He grabbed his brother's arm.
"Killisar, I know you hate me for partaking in the death of Zaknafien. But I didn't have much of a choice any ways." He growled. "Not that I liked the man. Seemed annoyingly nice to me." He said matter-of-factly.
"You didn't know him!" Killisar yelled as he jerked his arm free. "Don't judge him!"
"Shut up!" Dinin yelled suddenly. "You are so pig headed! Stop wallowing in self pity! There are a lot of dark elves here, and you're leaving them to die! I can't start this by myself!"
"You have Lokewen!"
"She isn't a drow! She doesn't know our culture!"
"I don't know it! I've been gone for who knows how long! Just leave me alone!" Killisar cried furiously.
"Killisar! Stop being so stinkin' selfish!"
"You are being more selfish than I! The only reason you want to start this blasted city is for the power! You crave the power! You always have! But you could never have it because you were a son! Well I've never cared for your power craze! No one ever did! And no one ever will!"
Lokewen was watching them, concerned.
"I don't care if no one cared! I never cared anyway! I would gladly have killed every single person in that house if I could have!"
"But you never could have!" Killisar's eyes lit up with hate. "You were always too weak! Your sisters were stronger than you could have ever been!"
Dinin's fist clenched and Killisar just sighed, trying to calm down.
"Just leave me alone, Dinin. I'm not like you. I'll never be like you. I can't stay here with these people. I've never belonged with them. And I never will. I'll be torn apart if I do, not by them but by myself. Just leave me alone, Dinin. And I'll not come back to bother you."
Dinin eyed him and sighed.
"Fine. Just go." He said angrily. He turned and walked back to the kids as Killisar left. "Where is everyone else?"
A year later
Dinin looked over at his thriving drow city. Drow men and women and children flooded the street at night, and abandoned it on the day. It was beautiful. And he was their King. There was no Queen for once in the drow's lives. Just a male King. No Matrons, no gods, just a King. He smiled at the thought. He looked back and saw Lokewen struggling with a bucket full of water, her hair falling down in front of her face in her struggle. He smiled and walked over to help her.
"Hello, King Dinin." She smiled as he took the bucket and held it effortlessly. She tossed her blond hair out of her face with one hand as the other settled on her hip.
"What's on the agenda for today?" He asked her. She smiled slantedly.
"Nothing much. Just a few drow that need your council." She sighed.
He soaked in the feeling of authority he had so craved at an early age. He smiled at her and she at him.
His feelings had also grown in a different direction toward this particular elf. Little by little, her personallity became extremely appealing to him. Her beauty became attractive. Her knowledge and forceful attittude brought him a warm feeling inside of him. Her kindness, though sometimes revolting, brought him pleasure and amusement at times. And her eyes, oh her eyes. They were agonizingly hypnotic. He wished her could just stare at them all day.
Of course, he would never tell her any of this. Even though it was quite obvious that she felt the same way about him.
To her, his strong features and rough white hair was beautiful. His tough and angry personality also brought her amusement. He sometimes taught her more spells when he had the time, but his mysterious facaud made her wonder. His eyes were so cold, yet when he looked at hers, were full of so many emotions that it was almost overwhelming. She dreamed of him every night, and when she didn't, she couldn't find the ability to stay awake.
He smiled and looked down the hallway, pulling his eyes away from hers.
"Where do I put this?" He asked.
"Um... I'll show you." She said, wanting to stay with him for his mere presents sent wonderfull chills up her spine.
He nodded and followed her. She walked slowly down the hallway as he kept her pace. They walked in silence for a little while, but then they both looked at each other and smiled nervously.
"So how's the teaching going?" He asked finally. She had been teaching some drows magic.
"Good. It's been going really well. I am running out of spells though..." She said, hinting. He smiled mysteriously.
"Well then, you better slow down." He smirked. She sighed disappointedly.
"Oh come on, it's been weeks since you taught me some spells!" She begged. He laughed.
"Desperate much?" He asked. She frowned.
"Please?" She begged. He looked at her and suddenly spoke a chant so fast that it was nearly unintelligable. The bucket immediately levitated above his hand and he let it drift in front of him as he walked.
"There ya go. Figure that one out, and that will be your new spell." He said coyly. She melted in disappointment.
"Oh seriously, Dinin! That's impossible!" She cried. He threw a mysterious smile toward her and winked.
"Nothing's impossible with Lokewen Lieldrienli!" He laughed. She crossed her arms in a huff and eyed the bucket. She reached for it to throw at him but he immediately lifted it above her reach and laughed.
She sighed angrily.
"You're impossible, Dinin Do'Urden." She growled under her breath. He laughed again.
"Your Majesty! Your Majesty!" A drow guard cried as he ran into the throne room. "Your Majesty, there is an invasion outside!" He cried. Dinin sprang to his feet.
"What?! Who?!" He cried. The guard gasped for air.
"Humans! They want to take over the city! The dragons have driven them out of their city and they are breaking through the gates, wishing to take this city as their own!" He explained in a desperate voice. Dinin cursed and grabbed his sword next to him. He hurried dignifyingly down the stairs and out the door, his black and red robe fluttering behind him as he hurried. He threw open his armor room and walked in.
Immediately, two drow women started to collect his decorated armor and latch it onto his calves, shins, boots, arms, hands, chest, and back. Finally, one lifted a helmet which he snatched and walked out quickly, protected in silver and gold armor.
"Come, General. Gather your unit. We have to wipe these humans out before they reach the main city." He called to the man running up to him. The man nodded, already having gathered it.
Dinin and the group ran down the stairs toward their Neveahs and horses. Dinin grabbed his black horse and sprang onto its back, already making it run a gallop before he was fully in the saddle.
Dinin kept his head down as arrows raced by him and his horse, the horse's magically enhanced armor reflecting the arrows and sending them back.
Dinin put his sword out straight.
"CHARGE!!!!" He screamed to his soldiers as he rushed at them.
The two groups clashed, horses neighing and falling, men screaming and slamming into each other, then falling.
Dinin slashed down two men on one side, then two more on the other with his other sword. He pulled out his spear and threw it at a man running into the hole in the gate.
He kicked one away from him and hit another with his blade, slicing into the human's cheek.
Dinin's horse reared as a massive man swung his axe at its neck and Dinin slipped back. He held on, but the man pushed the horse and it fell backwards, crushing Dinin under the weight. The horse was trained well enough to immediately get up and away from the danger.
Dinin quickly rolled out of the way as the axe blade swung down at him and crushed the stone that was just under him. He sighed in relief and immediately jumped to his feet and ran at the giant.
He picked up his fallen sword on the way and swung both swords together, one arm swinging one way, then twisting, leaving that arm holding the sword into the hunk of flesh, and hitting the giant again in the stomach with his other. He kept spinning, taking his left arm from the back of the giant and spinning over so that he hit the giant again, then kept spinning until the giant was cut in half completely.
Dinin felt an arrow spring into his shoulder and he cried out in pain. He spun around, throwing a dagger as he spun, and watched it cut right into the man's forehead. Before the man fell, he had cut down three more.
Dinin suddenly realized he was fighting by himself as his general fell to his knees. He watched in horror as his friend fell forward onto his chest. His friend was dead. He looked at the humans and cursed them.
He jumped, spinning his legs up in a completely cirlce, kicking down three men around him. He did a helacopter, then flipped back behind two men, using both of his swords to slash them down. There were too many. Hundreds were running toward him. He sucked in pain as three arrows peirced his chest. He felt his life slipping and stumbled back.
He suddenly saw arrows rain front behind him. He jerked his head back and saw Lokewen shooting arrows, three at a time, hitting each man as he shot.
"Your Majesty, come with me!" She called. He nodded and hurried toward her. She put her arm under his and across his back. She quickly helped him toward the castle as fast as she could.
Once inside, the doors closed behind her and she set Dinin down on the marble floor. She put her hand to his chest and chanted. The lights appeared and faded slowly.
He sat there, sucking in breath. His authority had disappeared. They were slaughtering his people.
"Lokewen... there are people... in the city...!" He cried. "We have to... help them!" She nodded and looked around. The only people around were servants. All the soldiers had left.
"Dinin..." She began sadly.
"No, I have to go!" He cried as he sprang to his feet and stumbled toward the doors. He was still weak from so long at fighting.
"Dinin! You can't!" She cried. He banged on the doors.
"Let me out!" He screamed. The doors didn't budge. "Let me out, dang it!" He screamed. Nothing. He fell to his knees. His city, his great city... he couldn't do anything!
"Dinin, I'm sorry. But there's nothing we can do." She whispered. Dinin cursed and banged on the door desperately.
A day later, everything was quiet. Dinin was still on his knees in front of the doors. He had discovered that the servants that opened the gates were killed, shot down with arrows. He wondered if any dark elves had escaped.
He suddenly heard creaking and he jerked his head up. He watched as the doors opened. As they opened, he saw humans staring at him, hundreds of them.
Lokewen gasped and ran to him. She threw her arms around his shoulders.
"Come, Your Majesty! We have to get out of here!" She cried. He wouldn't move.
The doors opened fully and the humans stared at him with hatred. He looked at them, still on his knees, and smirked.
"You fools." He said. It was so quiet that you could have heard a Neveah's silent squawk. He laughed evilly. "You fools!" He laughed. They all just stared at him.
He stood up to his full height, leaving Lokewen on her knees.
"You have destroyed a great city! But you will not destroy me!" He screamed. They all drew their swords and spears in defense but they were completely outmatched by his sudden magic attack.
A massive wave of purple and blue mixed pounded against them, knocking them back down the stairs. Over and over they fell. Soon, most of them were dead. Only a few remained, who just stared in terror at the man.
They looked at him, then slowly kneeled, acknowledging him as their king.
Dinin walked by them and toward his city. He had to see if there were any drow alive. He saw children dead on the ground, women slaughtered. Men had been stabbed and dragged from theirs shops and homes. He closed his eyes slowly, then thrust them open, forcing himself to see the carnage.
He walked into house after house, finding some nearly dead kids and women, but no men.
He walked into the last house and looked around. He saw a child in the corner, covered with the body of a drow male who had been hiding the child. He walked over and reached his hand out to the boy. The boy took it as tears fell from his eyes. Dinin picked him up, resting him on his hip as he walked back toward the palace. Three boys had been found, five girls. One woman. Out of the 500 drow that had lived, 23 remained, including him and the few servants in the palace. He brought the civilians into the palace, where they would be safe. Dinin watched as the gates closed, leaving the barbarious humans outside.
As the weeks passed, more humans came and inhabited the city. He had a human city to rule over, only two or three knowing that he was a drow. They would be exterminated in a matter of minutes now. He had sent out two trained servants to deal with that.
He looked at Lokewen sadly. She looked back at him with sympathy and sorrow.
"We will live through this. I promise." She whispered.
He grabbed her hand and nodded slowly.
"I know." He murmured. He brushed his lips against her cheek as he walked by, back to his throne room.
5 years later
"Your Majesty? You have a guest here to see you." A drow servant said with a bow. He nodded and summoned a few gaurds to come with him.
"Drow or human?" He asked as he walked down the hallway, the servant next to him.
"A drow, and two humans." He said. Dinin frowned. He pulled up his hood and brought his small cloth that covered the bottom of his face over and latched the small hook to the other side of the hood, covering his face.
"Names?"
"They didn't give them to me." He said. Dinin frowned. Who could these people be? He thought. He saw them come into view, but they were too far to make out their faces.
As he came closer, he recognized the drow.
Killisar.
