Breath held still,
Knees they quiver.
Blood runs cold,
Joints now stiffen.
The stars that used to blink,
Now turn the knob and dim the light.
The moon that used to smile,
Now frowns with oh but a tear to cry.
The sun that brought joy at the sound of a doo,
In such hast it swore to never return.
The rainbows that brought a wish for rain,
Now dwells in the back of imagination.
The seasons that changed before boredom,
Now held fast by a lingering hand.
The animals that sang songs into our ears,
Now red and chewy, fill up our bellies.
The grass, so soft, to catch our falls,
Now hard as stone, that breaks our stumbles.
The death that runs through our souls,
Slowly destroys our cells, one by one.
The poison seeps through,
The poison of the building tops,
The venom of our way through time.
