We sped down a dirt road I didn't recognize. I was sitting in the passenger seat with Bella, my cousin, driving. I don't really know much about Bella, except that she's really clumsy. When we used to play together a long time ago, she used to trip over everything, and I would laugh. I did my share of tripping too, because as I grow older I see how much I'm like her. Bella's 18 and I'm only 16, we both have brown hair, except hers is darker. Our dark brown eyes are practically the same, but she's more pale than I am. She has also been through way more than I have. The whole reason I'm riding in this red truck with Bella was because of who she knows. My parents were murdered a couple weeks ago, and Charlie, Bella's dad, said that they'd take me in. They had enough space in their little house in Forks, which I don't believe because I'm pretty cramped. Since then Bella and I have done some catching up, and I told her about what murdered my family. I knew no one would believe my story but she did, which surprised me. The night my parents were murdered I was almost killed, by a pale female with fiery red hair. She had really sharp looking teeth. She told me she was a vampire, and that I'd take it to the grave. Which she thought would not be long, until the police came because our neighbors had heard the noise. She said she would come back to kill me before she left. I tried to tell the police and the doctors about the vampire girl, Bella said her name was Victoria, but they wouldn't listen. Even if they did they would think I was crazy. We stopped in front of a huge house. I don't know how to describe it, it was very open for a house of vampires. I would have thought they'd live in a rundown, old house with board up windows. This was very nice and welcoming. Bella stopped the car, “We're here.” she said with a shy smile on her face. She climbed out into the drizzle of rain. One thing I did know about living in Forks was that it almost always rained, but I didn't care. I slid out the passenger side door and onto the damp grass. I followed Bella to the door, I fidgeted with my hair and my clothes, and anything with in arms reach of me. I wanted to be perfect, I wanted to be like Bella.
A small pixie like girl, with cropped black hair and topaz eyes, answered the door. She stared wide eyed at Bella and I. “Bella,” she started in a calm velvety voice, “did you clone yourself? I should have seen this one coming.” Bella giggled, but I knew she was blushing, but, so was I. “No, this is my cousin Jenna.” I smiled shyly at her, she was so beautiful and I was so... not. “Hello Jenna. I'm Alice.” she greeted me warmly. She didn't have to look very far down or up, Bella and I are practically the same hight. “Hello Alice,” I replied. It was hard to believe someone so nice, and kind looking would be a vampire. She didn't seem to be a threat at all. Suddenly I felt unnaturally calm, and I stopped fidgeting. Alice could sense my change and she turned back into the house. She called out to someone, “Jasper! If you want you can come down and say hi instead of hiding up there. I know you want to.” I heard a booming laugh from inside, but it wasn't Alice's. I knew I should feel nervous standing here about to go into a house full of vampires, but I wasn't. “Why don't you come in, Edward, oddly, isn't here. He went out to do some shopping, I don't know why.” Bella and I followed Alice into a big open room, it was a surprise. I looked around in wonder at the welcoming house. At the top of a big set of stairs was a lean, blond haired boy with the same pale skin and golden eyes. His eyes grew cold when he looked at me, his nostrils flared and suddenly he was down the stairs walking towards the back door. I shivered at his coldness, I bet that he was Jasper. “Wait Jasper!” Alice called to him. “I'll be back in one moment.” she told us as she walked as smoothly as a model towards where Jasper had exited. “Why does he hate me already?” I asked quietly to Bella. She looked at me with worried eyes. “I don't know. It seems a little suspicious.” Bella answered. I had no idea what she was talking about so I let it drop. Alice danced back into the room with eyes of worry. “Bella!” she cried, “It's her, get her out now! Jasper is trying to control himself as much as he can but it's too much.” Suddenly there was a loud roar outside, I jumped at the loud noise. “Get out!” Alice screamed. Suddenly a man with bronze hair burst into the room. “Bella!” he roared, “Come on.” Bella grabbed my wrist and pulled me along out the door. As we were out side the man said, “Jasper, he's starting to hunt.” We hurried to a shiny, silver Volvo. The man threw me in the back seat as Bella quickly ran around to the passenger side. They both slid into the seats and the engine was started instantly. Jasper was suddenly at my window snarling and trying to break through the window. I screamed in fright as the man sped the car away with Jasper following closely behind. “Edward, what happened?” Bella asked, her voice cracking with panic. “It's Jenna! She is to Jasper as you are to me.” Edward said sternly. Bella seemed to know what he meant but I had no idea what was happening. There was a loud thump on the back of the car. I turned and saw Jasper again, his eyes as black as night. The window shattered, I gasped trying to get away but a strong hand pulled me out. I let out a bloodcurdling scream as I watched Bella's horror struck face become further and further away. I was flung to the ground hard, I heard a loud crack where my arm landed funny. I screamed in pain trying to get up but to iron arms gripped me. Edward was suddenly in front of me trying top break Jasper's hold on me. Jasper wasn't having that, he leaned down and pressed his cold lips to my neck. I felt pain shoot through my body as his teeth dug into me. Edward roared, ripping Jasper off me and holding him back. My sight was fading as I collapsed into a warm, sticky puddle of blood, but I heard Bella screaming my name. Then there was black and I knew I was dying.
The pain was worse than anything I had ever felt in my life. I was alone in a black hole of nothing. I felt like I was on fire, but there was no fire that I could see. I wanted to stop the pain, I wanted to be with Bella, Alice and Edward. I screamed out in pain, I wanted it to stop more than anything in the world. Then I could see light, I knew it had to be heaven. But, I was thrust back into reality. The pain was still pulsing through my body, but I could see the worried faces around me. “Help.” I said in a small, pained whisper. I let out another scream, “Someone help me!” There was Bella, her brown eyes on mine. I saw the worry, the sadness. “What's happening!” I shrieked, writhing in pain. Bella didn't answer, I really wanted to slap her but the pain pinned me to the bed. “What do we do? Should we hit her over the head so she goes back unconscious?” Alice asked calmly. “Just wait, it's almost done.” Edward said taking Bella's hand in his. I wanted so much to hit something, anything to stop the pain. I winced as the pain suddenly grew more prominent. Then there was nothing. I sighed in relief. I felt renewed, like I had just been born and taking in my first breath of air. But as I inhaled the air, it seemed different, there was this floral smell, it smelt mouth watering. I wanted to taste it. I searched around for the source, and I found it. Bella. Horror filled my body, I couldn't hurt Bella, but that smell. What had happened to me. “What happened to me?” my voice sounded strange, too perfect to be my own voice. I sat up feeling very strong and very thirsty. There was this burning in my throat, I wanted to stop it with something. No one answered my question, I got annoyed. “What the hell happened to me?” I roared. I looked down at my hands, they were almost as white as snow. I screamed, “Am I dead!” I stood up pushing past Alice. I felt my face, it was smooth and my crooked nose was not crooked anymore. Still no one seemed to know what to do. Angered by their silence, I stomped out of the room, down the stairs and out the back door. Jasper was just walking up when he saw me. The anger seeped out of me, I knew it was him. I knew he had some power of some kind, but no one ever told me anything! “Jenna. I... I'm so very sorry.” Jasper said in low whisper. His lips were moving too fast and it seemed very quiet but I could still understand. “I don't need your pity.” I said as I marched down the stairs. Jasper followed, but I didn't want him anywhere near me. I started to run, but instead of running it felt like I was gliding over the ground's surface. The wind was whipping past me at a really fast speed. How fast was I going? Jasper still caught up to me. “Jenna, just listen to me.” I could hear the calm anger in his voice. “When I attacked you...” he clenched his fist in anger, “Edward pulled me off you just in time for you to live. By the time they had calmed me down it was too late for you.” “Is anyone going to just tell me what's going on?” I asked icily. Jasper let out a low growl from his throat. It startled me and I stayed silent. “Let me explain. The venom that we have has spread through your body, and now your a vampire.” “WHAT!!!” I shrieked, it was extremely loud and I was sure people in Forks could hear it. I turned and in lighting speed I was off. As I ran through the forest I tried to make sense of it all. I was in town within a few minutes. That was one thing I now knew about vampires, they could run extremely fast. As soon as I saw the house I bolted up to the door and unlocked it. “Bella?” Charlie called as I closed the door. “No it's Jenna.” I called back, trying to quiet my loud booming voice. “Oh Jenna! I was so worried. When Bella said you were staying with the Cullens for a few days I thought it was an excuse you had come up woth for running away. Is everything alright?” “Yes, Uncle Charlie. Everything is fine. Bella was telling the truth, I did stay with the Cullens for three days. I didn't get a chance to meet all of them, but I did meet Edward, Alice and Jasper.” I answered cautiously. Did he know the Cullen family were a family of vampires? Of coarse not, Bella is the only one they told. This smell filled my nose, it wasn't as sweet as the smell at the Cullen house, but still mouth watering. “Jacob Black, called for you today. I said you were staying at the Cullen's, he sounded angry.” Jacob Black called for me? Ever since I saw Jacob a couple summers ago, visiting Charlie, I knew he was special. He and I were the best of friends, we were the same age. We kept in touch, but when Bella came to live with Charlie that's all Jacob would talk about. Bella, Bella, Bella! I tried not to be hurt by it, but the more he said her name the more the pain grew. Last weekend when I moved here from Phoenix, he seemed overly happy to see me. When I asked what happened he said he wasn't into Bella anymore, since she had a boyfriend. I was very grateful for Edward. I told him that he'd find someone, I was secretly hinting about myself. “Jacob called? I'll call him back.” Charlie retreated to his sofa as I dashed for the phone. “Hello?” he answered in a husky voice. My whole body froze up. “Hello?” he asked again after I didn't say anything. “Hi Jacob, it's Jenna. Charlie told me you called.” I said, my voice should have been shaky, but it sounded perfectly calm. “Oh hey!” he said, “I wanted to ask if we could get together.” “Really? Sure!” I said kind of loud. “Where?” I asked. “I'll come by your house in a few minutes.” “Okay see you then.” I hung up and collapsed onto a chair. I felt very strange and the smell filtering through the house was making me mad. So, I walked out side and lay down on the front yard. I felt trapped by the clouds, like a grey cage surrounding me. Suddenly I heard a small shuffling coming towards me. I turned just in time to see a streak of blond hair and pale skin. I was pinned to the ground by Jasper, he had this strange look on his face, a mix of anger and calm. “Listen to me. You must come back, you are not ready to be out in the world.” I squirmed out of Jasper's grip. “I don't need your help! I don't need anyone's help. I just need to be alone.” I pushed him away, he seemed to stumble like a normal person, but weren't vampires super strong? Happiness filled my body, and I allowed him near me. “Fine whatever. I'll listen to you. But I'm getting together with a friend so make it fast.” “Maybe you shouldn't do that. You see, your eyes, they are very dark. That burning in your throat, that's the craving for blood. Once you feed you will feel better, but only for a while. I will take you hunting as often as I have to, because I'm also having a tough time with the way Carlisle and the rest of family feeds. If you start out feeding on animals you will have more control soon enough.” All he was saying made sense, but I couldn't grasp the thought of me drinking blood. Then a really bad smell washed over where we were standing. I looked around for where it could be coming from, but the only person around was Jasper... and Jacob! When he saw me he stopped in his tracks and with wide eyes he looked over at Jasper. “What have you done to her?” he ordered, but in that moment Jasper was gone, in his place was a note with my name on it. I picked it up an shoved it in my pocket. Jacob walked forward cautiously, he was trembling slightly. “Jacob, I'm so happy to see you. I'm sorry we couldn't get together earlier.” The bad smell was getting stronger as Jacob got closer, was he the reason for the stench that was polluting my nose? There was also this slight feeling of hate towards Jacob for no reason, but I could never hate Jacob! Jacob stopped a foot away from me, he looked furious. “You've become one of them.” he growled. “Jenna, not you! Anyone but you!” he yelled. He was fully shaking. I put up my hands, “Calm down Jacob. I haven't changed... well mentally.” I said in a calm voice to perfect to be my own. Jacob had changed too, his boyishness was gone and he looked like a man. He had grown and he looked very good looking. I walked over to Jacob slowly, not trying to make him anymore angry. When I was standing right in front of him I wrapped my arms around him. His skin burned like fire, but I could withstand it as long as I was in his arms. Suddenly I heard a ripping noise coming out of his chest. I was on the ground in a second. In Jacob's place was a huge wolf, it was bigger than a bear. I sat on the ground terrified at what was in front of me.

I heard an extremely perfect voice calling my name, then I was swooped off my feet. Jasper was carrying me like a doll in his arms, running through the forest. “Jasper,” I said in a panicked voice, “what happened to Jacob?” “He's a werewolf, and a young one at that. They are our only enemies.” Jasper said not even breathing heavily while he was running. I gasped in horror, “No! Not Jacob!” I yelled struggling to get out of Jasper's hold. “Jenna you have to feed. You can't go around endangering people, and yourself.” Jasper said in a stern voice. “Jasper, you don't understand. I love Jacob.” Jasper stopped when I spoke those words. He dropped me and roared at me, I backed up and hurried off. Jasper soon caught up to me and grabbed both my shoulders. “Jenna, this is wrong! You cannot love a werewolf!” Jasper yelled as a struggled out of his grip. “Don't touch me!” I screamed at him, “I loved Jacob way before you made me a vampire!” I ran off so fast all the tress looked like blurs zooming past me. I found my way back to town but I felt strange, like I was out of control. Then it the world went black. I saw pictures flash before my eyes. The first looked like I was running through town, it lasted only a moment. I saw someone off in the distance, then Jessica's horror struck face. I tasted a warm and sweet liquid in my mouth dripping down my throat. Then the light returned. I was standing on a sidewalk around the houses of Forks. I heard a thump and something hit the ground at my feet. I looked down and saw red blood on the pavement and Jessica, Bella's friend, lying dead on the ground. I screamed in terror at the sight. Had I done that? I felt a strong arm on my shoulder and I whipped around expecting to see Jasper there. It was Edward. “Edward,” I said quietly, “what have I done?” The guilt I felt was strong like it was my first time feeling it. “It's okay.” he said in a soothing voice, “Everyone loses control. It's not your fault.” I did not agree with him. “Yes it was. I waited too long and caused an innocent life to be lost.” Edward wrapped his arms around me for comfort, but what I felt was something way more than comfort. Jacob, he had changed so much since the last time I saw him and with him being a werewolf it just wouldn't work. The love I felt for Edward as he held me was stronger than any feeling that I had ever felt in my life. I wondered how he felt for me. I saw this green haze in my mind and as soon as I saw it a couple words came into my head. Pure friendship. Could I tell how others felt for me? What if... I lifted my head, stood on my toes and pressed my lips against his. There was a purple haze and their was only one word. Surprised. I pulled away, smiling awkwardly at him. I was still smiling awkwardly as I walked away from his stunned face. I closed my eyes for only a moment and the purple haze was still there. I chuckled as I walked off towards my house. When I arrived I heard yelling and stomping around inside. I opened the door cautiously, hoping nothing bad had happened. Charlie was standing at the foot of the stairs looking surprised and disoriented. “Uncle? What happened?” I asked slowly. Charlie turned around to face me his face showed anger. “Bella's leaving, again.” he said sternly, “She says Edward has been cheating on her. I expected this, But she said it was you he was with.” Shock filled my body and my mouth fell open. She must have saw me kiss Edward. “That's not true. Edward and I are strictly friends and that's it. We have to stop her.” I stepped up to the stairs and climbed them gracefully. “Bella?” I asked when I got to her room door. “Go away. I never want to speak to you again.” her voice was shaky and it sounded like she had been crying. “Bella! I'm not with Edward. What you saw was...” I paused to think about it, “I don't know what it was but it's not what you think. Bella please believe me.” I closed my eyes, the haze was pure red. I didn't even need the word I knew what it meant. Hate. But suddenly it became a nice white colour, gratitude. I heard the door open and my eyes flicked open. Bella stood in front of me with tears in her eyes and her bag in her hand. “I want to thank you.” she said, her voice was shaking. “Thank me? Why?” I asked in confusion. “You showed me how Edward is a jerk. Tell the Cullens goodbye for me.” Bella gave me a quick hug and stumbled down the stairs. I watched as Bella and Charlie went at it. “Bella, don't do this. Not again.” Charlie pleaded. He grabbed Bella's arm to stop her but she pulled away. “Truly Dad, I hate this town. I miss mom and I want my life back. I'm sorry I just can't do this anymore.” Then she was gone...
“Edward! Edward!” I screamed as I entered the Cullen's house. His nostrils were flared and anger burned in his eyes. “You dare to show your face back here? After what you did.” There was a low rumbling coming from his chest. “Never mind that!” I yelled, “Bella's leaving! She's going back to live with her mother!” Shock filled his face and he rushed out the door without another word. He loved Bella so much that he would stop her from doing what she wanted. Depression washed over me, he loved her. “Damn it Jenna. What have you done this time?” I muttered feeling significantly guilty about causing this. Jasper was suddenly at my side, he put a strong hand on my shoulder. “It's okay, he's bring her back and everything will be fine.” “No,” I disagreed, “It will not be fine, because I love him and seeing him with Bella will just hurt me so much.” Jasper looked confused, “Since when do you love Edward?” he asked. I hadn't thought about it but I really didn't know. “I don't know but when he first burst into the room, when I was supposed to meet you, my stomach just gave a little flutter. Hearing his voice made the flutter worse, and his eyes were breathtaking.” Jasper sighed and said, “Damn Alice was right, as usual.” Jasper paused taking my arm and leading me to the couches. “It's alright we'll get trough this, but what about that Jacob Black character?” “I don't know,” I mumbled, “Jacob has changed. It feels like he hates me and I hate him. I know it would never work now, because of what we are.” There we have it. Jacob was out of it, I could never forget him though. I don't know how and I don't know when, but somehow I fell in love with my cousin's boyfriend. What a bad guy to choose. I sat all alone on a couch waiting for Edwards return, but in what seemed like an hour he came back. But, he wasn't the same; his features were filled with pain. The first thing he did was let out a roar, but it wasn't like a lion roar, more like a shot down kitten.
