GOSH! This all happened so fast...: This past Friday, I was texting a guy I befriended from the lockdown I participated in (more about that in a previous, recent entry) and he told me he's trying to get his driver's license before prom night this upcoming Saturday. And then I said, "Wait, you're going to PROM?" He says, "Yeah. o.o" I ask a few more questions about it, and eventually I got up the nerve to ask, "Hypothetically speaking... What if I could go to the prom with you? Could I be your date?" and he replies, "Of course. biggrin " So run to the next room to ask my mom, "Uuuuh… Mom? Would it be… POSSIBLE if-" "Here we go… -_- This involves money, doesn't it?" "-if I could go to… the… prom?" "...Yup. Should've known. biggrin " So she told me to ask him a few questions like where will the prom be held, what time does it start, etc. My mom learned that the deadline for a ticket was April 2nd (yesterday), and thank God we found out when we did or we would've missed it for sure! JUST TO MAKE THIS CLEAR ENOUGH: I graduated early. I would've been a senior right now if I stayed in public school but I transferred to a private one and worked my butt off to get out of high school an entire semester early, so I'd be free of homework, projects and academic deadlines until August, when I go to college. My mom's a special ed teacher at a high school, and when I participated at the school's senior lockdown (more elaboration to this story in my March 27th journal entry) I made a few friends, including the guy I'm now attending prom with. He's a senior, I'm not, but it doesn't really matter because he's older than me by a year and I was a senior a matter of months ago and would still currently be one if I took the traditional route to finishing school. Ok, back to the story: So Friday was when mom and I decided to go shopping this weekend for everything I'd need to be prepared for this upcoming Saturday, April 7th. Luckily I already had an idea for a dress before we started shopping, which was a short dress, one with a skirt fanning out and stopped somewhere above my knees to show off my legs. ^ ^ I didn't want any fabric to hit my calves as I walked; psychologically speaking, it would feel as though I'm being weighed down. I won't be walking down the aisle, I'll be dancing my tush from side to side, proudly and shamelessly! Saturday afternoon, we hit a bunch of stores and I swear, their dresses were downright hideous. Tons of sequins and glitter here, tacky "look at me, look at me!" colors there… Gowns with purples, blues, yellows, blacks and especially pinks...But I wanted something beyond the norm. Sure, there's that saying, "beggars can't be choosers" but hey, what's the point of going to the prom if you can't find a dress you know you'll look AND feel fantabulous in? (is that a word? It is now.) Right when we were about to give up, I walked back to the hangers and BAM, I found it! The entire dress had a silky shine when the light hit it, but it wasn't all one color: An ivory, silky torso area, a black ribbon about 2 inches high to tie around the waist, and the rest of it, the skirt part was a darkgreen/blue (deep teal). The length was perfect, stopping right above my knees! But I couldn't get too excited; there was the question that would determine everything: Did the dress fit? It. Was. a. MIRACLE. It fit as though it was tailored just for me! Afterwards, we stopped by a few shoe shops, but ran out of time, so we went home. Sunday was the day we needed several things: shoes, earrings, and a clutch purse. Just because I have size 6 feet (maybe 6 and 1/2 or 7 depending on the shoe type and style) doesn't make it any easier to finds shoes that fit well. My ankles are small, and though the shoes I tried on fit around my FOOT, my ankles were very unsecure and when I walked in them, I was positive I was gonna fall and bust a hip on the dancefloor. And THAT would've been tragic. So, once again, there was ANOTHER miracle! I tried on about 15 different pairs of shoes before I found the one: patent leather high heels that show a lot of my foot, strappy and with a visible metallic silver strip where my foot rested on top of. We found the other items in 2 other stores, within 10 minutes of walking within the doors! I was soooooooo ecstatic! Within a single weekend I had everything I needed for Saturday! Then yesterday when my mom went to work, she bought my ticket 1st thing in the morning, so I'm now on the list! I never knew I could be this girly, this giggly about wearing a gorgeous dress, stylish shoes with cute accessories, spending time with a really one-of-a-kind guy for a single enchanted night. I never thought I'd get to experience it, but now that it's certain, I couldn't hold it in anymore, I just had to share the news (hence, the entry). I happily texted my date and said, "It's finally official: I'm your prom date!" And he replied, "That's great. biggrin I'll be the happiest guy there."
