The blood flowed down his arm slowly, congealing on his skin and clothes. The heartbeat was weakening, and the organ itself began to cool in his hand. There were many things about this situation that were common for him. For one, it dealt with himself, a human, and something that was considered myth. For another, he had done similar things on a nearly weekly basis for most of his life. The players, the act, it was all the same except for one thing: the roles had changed. He had been created by humans, using breeding, for a singular purpose. From an infant he'd been programmed and trained until his mission was part of his genetics and underlying psyche- Protect Humans, Kill Monsters. For the last few centuries, his kind had been doing this, but on this one night, he'd reacted in a way he still didnt fully understand- in a way that none in the room would've guessed. The human looked down at the hand protruding from his chest as though he couldn't understand what it was. The human looked back at the owner of the hand, and asked with his dying breath, "Why?" As he shrugged the corpse off his arm, Rez knew why- how would've been a better question to ask. The Why was because the human had tried to kill the girl. Given, the girl was a Draconic, and one of the races he was sworn to protect humans from- even if they had started the fight. But unlike previous times when similar had occured, she hadnt tried to defend herself by killing the human. His eyes had burned, and his chest had gotten tight, and before he'd known it the man had died. He'd never killed a human before... and the reason why burned on his shoulder. For each time he ignored his base programming, his life shortened and one fifth of a seal would appear on some point of his body. He had literally killed himself a bit for his enemy. The girl sniffled quietly, perhaps afraid, perhaps simply from fear. Either way, it had broken him from his thoughts. Her energy was flowing into him enough for him to get rid of the corpse, so he incinerated it with half a thought. She scrambled back from the flames, probably now more frightened than ever, and Rez mentally kicked himself for not thinking. "Are you... alright?" he asked. He knew it was a stupid question. From her torn clothing, and small size, he could proabably guess what had been happening before he'd shown up. It was the disgusting part of humans that would allow such a thing to be thought of, much less occur. The smell of the burning corpse behind him gave him a twinge of dark satisfaction at that thought. Responding only by nodding, the girl looked at him with scared, wide eyes. She couldn't be more than twenty, or sixteen by human standards. Old enough to look for a mate, but little more than a hatchling. For some reason that just pissed him off at the corpse a bit more- hopefully the b*****d would become a spirit so he could tear through it again- this time without repercussions. "Im not going to hurt you, I promise." he said quietly. "But we need to get out of here before anyone else shows up. Can you stand?" It would've been comical to watch one of the once-proud dragon race to fall over so many times under a different circumstance, but they had little time remaining. The flame would scorch the ground, and it would be stupid to assume that the human police wouldn't test the area- there was blood on the ground in copious amounts after all. "Alright, stop trying. Im going to carry you, so dont struggle." he tried to keep his voice calm, to ease her nerves. The amount of fear she was giving off would alert every supernatural in the area- even those with similar duties to his own. He'd rather not place himself so squarely in danger, but he couldnt leave her after all this had occured. She nodded, but was shivering uncontrollably as he lifted her. She was lighter than he'd expected, and much smaller. Rez looked down at her, and used his mind to make her sleep- shutting off the fear-call. Hopefully it would make them believe he'd killed her. Leaving the flame to burn out on its own he left, cradling the girl tenderly, and headed home.
