(dedicated to my dad)
"Yeah, I'm just getting ready....I'll leave in a few minutes...no Yolie I'm not wearing the purple shoes....yeah. Okay. I'm hanging up now. Yolie. Bye." Pressing a finger to the iphone I cut Yolie off mid-sentence as she prepared to go on another tirade about what I should and shouldn't wear to the party tonight.
Tossing the phone onto my bed I made my way over to the full length mirror beside my dresser and carefully considered my options. I was already half dressed; wearing a short black skirt that hugged my hips, over a pair of knee length fishnet leggings. It was the top I was having some trouble deciding on.
Letting my tongue flick over my fangs I paced back and forth in front of my bed, my gaze studying the two tops I had managed to narrow my choices down to one was black, a tank top that hugged my body and would make the skirt look like a dress. The second was a loose white wife-beater that I'd managed to steal from my boyfriend's closet. It was big on me and it would hang off my shoulders, but it would cover a good portion of the black skirt and show the lacy black bra I wore underneath.
I was leaning towards the second shirt.
Picking it up I slid it on and smiled at my reflection. Instantly my hands began to fumble with my hair, gripping it and first holding it as though it was in a pony tail, then piling it up on my head into a makeshift messy bun.
"Hey Kari, Ty says he's going out I was won-" My father had peeked into my room and his eyes caught mine in the mirror. It was kind of unnerving seeing what was pretty much my eyes staring back at me. "...oh...your going out too." He said, and I could just see something flickering over his features. Not disappointment but sadness.
It wasn't every day we got to see our father. He was usually off who knows where, killing enemies that never seemed to stop plotting his downfall. Sometimes it was hard to remember that although he wasn't here...he was still saving our lives every single day. So far this was the longest I ever remember him staying. He'd already been here for three days, I kept expecting him to leave any second. Just vanish like he normally did when trouble was on the horizon.
Taking a couple of steps into the room, I could see that he had some things under his arm. His eyes flicked over me and he gave me a smile. "So where are you going tonight?"
Looking at him I felt mixed signals. Sometimes I was angry that he was hardly ever around, but most of the time I felt this deep ache in my chest. He was my dad. And as Ty was so fond of calling me I was "daddy's little girl" I was the youngest and the most like him. Mom used to tell me I was his favorite. And the way he looked at me right then made me believe it. "Just to the club with everyone." I said giving him a smile.
Slowly he closed the space between us and pressed a light kiss on the top of my head. "Have fun dear." He said smiling, with that same hint of sadness. I could feel worry bubbling up in my belly, and sadness...but this party was a big deal. We'd been planning it for months now to celebrate the creation of K.S.M.L.
"You look beautiful." Brushing some hair back from my face he repositioned the items under his arm and spread my hair out on my shoulders. "It looks best down." He said and then winked before turning and walking out the door. "Say hi to everyone for me okay sweetie?"
"I will dad." I said, and he smiled, nodding before stepping out and closing the door behind him.

In the hall Dracula sighed and looked down at the boxes he held in his hands. His favorite movies: Transformers, Transformers:Return of the Fallen, and Transformers: Dark side of the Moon, and Thor. Along with his daughter's favorites: Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park: The Lost World, and Jurassic Park 3 and his son's: Batman Begins and The Dark Knight were fanned out before him. He'd thought, that maybe they could watch some of them together...perhaps enjoy some family time before he had to go again.
Yes they probably wouldn't have been able to see them all, but seeing at least one or two movies with his children would have been enough to hold Dracula for however long his next mission kept him away.
Looking down he met the gaze of a black, red eyed English Bulldog. "Well Prime, looks like it's just us." He said crouching slightly to pat the dog's head before making his way down the stairs to the entertainment room.
The space was huge, big enough to be considered a small movie theater. A large screen took up one whole wall and across from it were a mixture of comfy looking chairs and couches. Walking over to the control panel he dimmed the lights and put Transformers into the DVD player. Turning the screen on he looked at it for a moment before moving towards the couch that sat directly across from the screen. Falling back into the cushions he sank into the over stuffed chair as Prime settled by his legs, resting his head on one of Dracula's feet.
Slowly the movie began to start, the familiar lines that signaled the beginning making his heart beat a little quicker in his chest.

Some time around the point in the movie when Bumblebee changed from a beat up old car to a beautiful black and yellow 2008 Camaro, Dracula felt something land in his lap.
Looking down he was surprised to find a bowl of popcorn. "What-" His eyes instantly moved up just as Ty plopped down on the couch on his right side and Kari daintily climbed onto the couch on his left.
"Didn't think you were going to have movie night without us did you?" Ty said reaching over to get a handful of popcorn.
On his other side Kari laughed, her golden eyes glowing. She'd changed into pajamas and had curled up like a cat against his side. Curling his arms around the back of the couch Dracula didn't think he'd ever felt happier then he did at that moment with his kids on either side of him.
"Love ya dad." Kari pecked him on the cheek.
"Yeah, but your going to have to explain to Sora why I didn't go to the party." Ty muttered only to get swatted at by Kari.
"Okay guys. I'm happy to have you here but shhh, my movies on." He said, sounding serious enough to make them grow quiet. But both of them could easily see the smile on his face, and they smiled too as they turned to watch the movie.
