A Seijin Shiki (成人式; coming-of-age ceremony)
Seijin no Hi (成人の日; literally adult’s day) is a national holiday in Japan which falls on the second Monday in January each year. The holiday is for young Japanese who reached the legal age of adulthood (20) to celebrate their new status.
A Seijin Shiki (成人式; coming-of-age ceremony) is normally held in the morning at local city offices where politicians and academicians will give speeches reminding the new adults of their social responsibilities. The Shin Seijin (新成人; new adults) would often visit a shrine after the ceremony to make their wishes and go for parties later on.

i wished there was a celebration like this for chinese young adults.
but most places consider 18 to be the legal age of adulthood right?
in canada it’s 18.
and i’m 18 right now, but i don’t feel like an adult yet.
so maybe 20 is better, lol. =P

18, 20, 21… no absolute standard. I think 18 is a fair age in legal terms… that the person is old enough to be responsible for what s/he did according to law and orders.
Mentally, it depends on each other’s maturity; for me I think I only seriously felt like an adult after I graduated from university… when I can live independently without the financial support from my family.

I love all the furisode colors and guys in hakama are always nice to see.
It’s a nice way to celebrate becoming 20.
