London's Shockwave NME Awards went down this week. Oasis got the Best British Band prize while The Cure took the Godlike Genius award. Others feeling the love were MGMT, The Killers and Muse.
Not so much the Jonas Brothers who took the Worst Band and Worst Album awards. Aw. Now is that nice? The boys might not be the most talented kids in the pageant but there must be worse bands out there and the Jo Bros are…harmless…well, unless you're one of those people who believe that abstinence promotion is ineffective and dangerous and leads to kids being uninformed about sex and taking unnecessary risks (Because it does seem that they go about trumpeting their virginity a lot, or is that just the media?) but other than that they're harmless, right? And there's something charming about their obsession withy Rick Astley. Five years from now they'll be on the reality show circuit and in ten they'll be announcing a reunion tour, or that's my prediction. Let them enjoy it at the top while they can. There's no reason to be so mean.
Also nominated in the category were Scouting For Girls, Tokio Hotel, Fall Out Boy and, strangely, Oasis.
Fortunately for Nick, Joe and that other one, they've got the Kids Choice Awards coming up, where they're up for the Favourite Music Group honour, which they won last year.
Muse took the most NME awards: Best Live Band, Best Album Artwork (for 'HAARP'), and Sexiest Male for frontman Matt Bellamy. Hayley Williams of Paramore is the Sexiest Female. Amy Winehouse is Worst Dressed, beating out Katy Perry, Johnny Borrell, Brandon Flowers, and Pete Doherty, who got the Best Solo Artist prize instead.
