I sit still
Watching your chest rise and fall
I can barely breath
Gasping for the air that is not there
You are peaceful
A mask over your face
You do not know what is happening around this place
And I brush your cheek
My resolution growing thin
I want to take you away with me
But how can I win?
Against time
Against luck
Against the world in its muck
I want to hold you forever and a day
I want you to sing your song forever more
I want to kiss your lips one last time
And as the light slowly fades away
I hold your hand
Collapsing over your chest...
... I awake in a bed
One that is not mine
White linens cover my chest
My breathing is harsh
And my chest hurts each time it rises and falls
But you are here
You hold my hand
Your smile like a rainbow on a cloudy day
And I know
Everything will be alright
So I lay here
Remembering that day
