(Gone Continued By: Anastasia J.)
“The white and blue one is to control wind and water. You’ll need to practice a little, but most is by insitint. The mostly blue one is to swim properly, it comes naturally, so no practice. The brown one to talk to other beings like ourselves, and the red one… Well eat that now… Don’t let Varick see,” the green one said, she sounded nervous when she got to the red fruit. The pink one glared at her nervously. And they began whispering to each other… There faces changed and I enjoyed it a little, as Is stuck the unknown fruit into my mouth. I wasn’t sure what it was, but since I couldn’t show it to Varick and the green one was winning, I decided to get rid of it now, so I couldn’t change my mind later. It tasted like an apple, but with the tangy taste of an orange. It also tasted sad. Something about it was strange, but I finished it anyway. You may be reading this thinking I’m insane but it’s better to ask forgiveness than permission. When I finished it, I ate the blue one, which tasted like… a cold medicine, then the brown and blue, which tasted like stale cerial, and the blue and white one which tasted pretty good… like a candy that I used to get only at Halloween… The green one came up to me after I ate them all, “They will take about 36 hours to kick in… You ate the red one?” “Yea… What does it do anyway?” I asked “Well, it will be very helpful when you get to your destination…” she replied as Varick came into the area. The trees swayed everywhere and the nymphs slipped into the water, leaving most of their clothes floating on the top.
***
When he finally landed, I ran up to him “You’re back! Good, are you ready to go?” I nodded, “Yeah… Nothing much else to do…” “Arlight,” he crouched down and held out his palm, “Lets go.” I walked toward him, but before I did I ran over and hugged the green one, who had come up for a moment with the other in there main cloths, and whispered, “Thanks, I won’t tell him… Don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine…” She smiled at me, for the first time and a single tear rolled down her cheek as I ran and hopped on Varicks hand. He lifted up his hand and placed it above his shoulder. I jumped on, grabbed onto his scales and waved goodbye. “I’m not sure what I’m here for, but when I do what I need to do, you’ll be one I’ll thank!” I shouted to her… My eyes watered a little, but not enough to cry. Soon enough she was just a little speck next to a pink one… Varicks wings flapped and I noticed my belongings on his tail, It was that sword, my backpack, and my clothes. After we got to a steady pace, I started to back up to the tail. The wind was beging to get cold aganst my skin. I think Varick relized what I was trying to do, and flicked my stuff to my. I almost dropped my bag, but grabbed it, almost falling off myself. We where up pretty high, I could see everything… A swarm of faries stopped and stared just a few feet across from me and I waved... I thought I should do something. Some looked at each other and some giggled, one looked shocked like I was some sort of movie star. After we passed them, I threw my shirt over myself, and then slowly pulled on my PJ pants. I really should get some new clothes soon “Where would you like to shop?” Varick asked “What?” How did he know what I was thinking, or was he lucky “I can feel your vibe. As soon as you got dressed, you felt a little unsure. I figured PJ’s weren’t really battle armor… No one can see you, so if you go into the supply room you could probably get some stuff…” “Battle?” Did I hear him right? “What do you mean battle?” “Angel will explain your mission later,” he sighed, “And he should supply with armor… So you should get something you like… You know? You probably don’t want bright colors either… He will explain that to you…So where do you want to shop?” I already knew where to go, “Cipot Toh! (for lack of name, please excuse minimum creativity at the moment)” I shouted! It’s at the mall! We can have An extream shopping spree!! I can take anything! It’s all free! I deserve it anyway, since I’m doing this little quest thing for you anyway.” “Alright, We are going to have to go to the one closet to the woods, because I lose energy if I fly too far away…” He said “Huh…? Why?” I became confused “Well,” he explained, “I get energy from the trees and nature around me… It’s just the type of dragon I am… So I wish to stay close, Understand?” “Yeah… Do you know where to go?” I asked, a little ticked My favorite mall was in a different state… “Yeah,” he said calmly, “Hold on, alright, really tight to my scales,” I already had a feeling of what he was going to do, so I grabbed on tight, “Alright!” As soon as the word left my mouth, we increased speed. It was amazing! The wind rushed in my face, and I felt so alive, everything that had happened before was gone just for that moment. I closed my eyes and loosened my grip, and then gripped with my feet, and totally let got with my hands, and lifted them up in the air! It was so awesome! My hair flew back totally straight, and the noises where clouded by the sound of rushing air. I slid back a little, still on his back, but I grabbed back onto his scales, and pulled myself back up. Then let go again. The speed felt faster than sound! It was like the ultimate roller coaster. I was flying in general, I looked to my right and saw the edge of the forest, and beside it, sticking out was a sparkling lake. It was beautiful. The color reminded me about the murderers eyes. The blue outlining his pupils… Suddenly we slowed down, “Are you alright?” I shouted to Varick “Yeah, I’m losing energy because we are leaving the main source of my energy, I’ll have to go at my normal pace now.” “Alright,” I replied back. My mind was still on that man, boy rather. He didn’t look that old yet… He had called me beautiful… No one in this world has ever called me that before… No one… The thought of it just makes me smile. I’m not sure what type of beautiful he met, if it was a beautiful as in he likes me, or like he thought of me more like a child. Whatever he met I couldn’t get it out of my mind. His eyes we so pretty. I have never seen any eyes like that before. Mine were a little strange… They where brown, with a almost black outline, but depending on my mood, sometimes the middle surrounding the pupil, would turn an almost yellow color, like a cats… But his… They where speechlessly amazing… The blue was so light… Next to the black… And why was he with the murderers? And why didn’t he kill me… He saved me? But why? Where is he now? So many questions, and no answers. It was very frustrating Suddenly I realized that we weren’t moving anymore. I looked at Varick, and he looked at me “Ready?” he asked, breaking the staring contest. We where on top of the roof, but not onto of any glass, I was a little surprised that the building could manage to hold a full grown dragon… “How do I get in?” I asked since there wasn’t any front entrance or anything. He pointed his nose towards a hole in the roof, “That’s where people come in and out to clean the roof and fix anything up here… Can you manage to get back here on your own? I’ll know if you get hurt or anything, but I won’t be able to help you until your out of the building. No one is looking for us just yet, so you should be fine, but hurry along. Don’t touch too many people, or anyone who is alone, just hurry up… Alright? You want black or darker outfits, like dark green, dark purple, you know what I mean right?” “Yeah… Should I try to get anything else? I mean, the mall has a lot of stuff, should I look for anything we may need?” “No, we have everything else we need…” “Alright,” I said as I climbed off of him, “I’ll go as fast as I can…” I ran to the hole, and looked down, their was a flight of stairs and a door, left wide open… I ran down and through the door, with the sudden worry it might be closed by the time I came back, but even so if I went out the front entance Varick would probably know. I found myself on the second floor near an unknown store. It seemed new, but it wasn’t what I was looking for anyway. The store Cipot Toh was on the first floor, at the left side, not too far. I saw an escalator going down and ran down it, almost falling once. No one looked at me and I avoided most of them, except a little girl who ignored it. She looked at where I touched her, but then went back to playing with a worn out bunny rabbit. After I got off the elevator I turned and ran down a little, towards the store, luckily being to this mall before, and knowing where it was. I didn’t really shop there, but Jake would buy his one friend stuff their. When I reached it I stared at it a little. It wasn’t very crowded, that was good, but I needed to find the storage area, and a way to get the clothes out too… It was going to be harder than I thought, now that I think of it… I need to get the security tags off. Then I needed to get it out of the store and out of the mall without anything seeing me. I took a step in the store, but right before I put it down, something tapped my shoulder. At first I froze… Varick said no one could see me…Who could have tapped me on my shoulder, just by luck, without seeing me…I was terrified… Frozen in place. It took all the corage I had to turn around, I knew who it was in a second… The face I saw before… It was him…His eyes where exactly the same as I had imagined… the blue outline was that same calming as before… And the black just like the shadows of the darkest night… But what was I doing… Why was he here? I was so confused. Was he still the nice man I knew from before, or was he different. I mean, he killed my parents, so I’m not sure how to respond… “So you are the one who’s going to kill me and take over my land…” he said smiling I just stared at him… I didn’t know why, but he had a charm… I couldn’t take my eyes off him… I couldn’t feel or hear my heart beat, and I suddenly relized I wasn’t breathing… “What’s wrong… You look at me like you are in love with me, well sorry girl, I’m taken…” The sudden jabbing pains of his words hurt more then I thought, almost effecting me physically. He was right… I simply looked into his eyes and I was in love. I felt weak, mentally… I couldn’t believe it. How could I be in love with him so quickly!? It didn’t make any sense! None the less I was…
In love.
“Are you just going to stare at me blankly?” he asked after another moment. “I’m… I’m sorry…” was all I managed. We waited a moment longer “Those stories must be fake…” he said under his breath, “This one is pathetic…” he sighed deeply, enchanting me even more, “But, none the less, she got the better of me then… I still don’t know what I was thinking.” I took me a while to realize he was talking to himself, “Excuse me…” I said almost in a whisper. He turned and looked at me. It was so gentle… I could feel my face blushing uncontrollably. “Who-Who are…” Why was it so hard to talk to him, “Who are you?” I asked He laughed a little and then spoke, “I am Arcadio. I rule the kingdom of Darkness and Shadow. You are Faylynn. You supposable will kill me and take over my kingdom.” It took me a minute to comprehend everything, “Arcadio…” I said lightly His name alone made me start to see those little gray and white dots again. I blinked them away and he tilted his head lightly and the dots came back three times as effected. They took over my vision quickly. I soon felt the ground escape from under my feet and warm hands brush my heart, and soon the only noise my ears could hear was the almost invisible beat of his heart. The dots soon turned darker and darker until he started shouting in my ear “Faylynn! Hey, wake up! Wake up!” His voice was enchanting alone. He pulled me off him. The dots faded and I awoke to full realization. His hand where on my shoulders holding me upright. I didn’t like it. I wanted to hear his heart beat again… The warmth of his arms holding me, whether he wanted to or not. “Wow…” He looked at me dazed for a second, “Did… You just faint?” I nodded, “Yeah, I think so.” My voice was still very weak. “You really are pathetic…” he sighed. I just looked at him for a second, “Why are you here anyway?” I asked after a while. “I’m here to kill you,” he spoke with a slight smile
Part 2
I just stared. My emotion didn’t change. I didn’t feel scared. It sounded more like a bluff to me. Something in his smile was evil, but his eyes destroyed all worry. I should have been worried, but I just wasn’t. “But, I won’t,” he said after a moment as the smile faded. He turned his back to me. He has the same design on his shirt as I did on my back. I could get a better picture of it, but he turned around again, his smile returning. He seemed so happy and worry free with a touch of “emo” or depression, “I don’t think your worth it anyway.” That hurt something in me a little, but my heart was still coded in his charm. I couldn’t seem to escape it. I knew I couldn’t just stand here, I needed to get new clothes. I tried and tried to move my foot, but he was just way to captivating. Was it some sort of spell? I didn’t care. I just wanted to hold him again. Kiss his cheek. I don’t know. Something… “Hey,” he interrupted my day dreaming, “Girl, go do what you have to do. I don’t care why you’re here, but you need to get going.” He was caring about me! I blushed and nodded, then ran off into the store, but I tripped on a shirt and pants. They where both black. I picked them up and studied them for a moment. The shirt said “Come to the dark side, we have cookies” and the pants where black with chains dripping off them. “Was that what you needed?” he asked, turning the attention to himself. He was even more caring then I thought! I smiled and blushed again, “Yes! Thank you!” I got up and hugged him, leaving the clothes on the ground. I found his faint heart beat again. Even though he wasn’t hugging back, I still loved it. His shirt felt soft. 100% Cotton, I assumed. His breath smelled like pears and his bare arms where island tan colored and as warm as the island sun. They soon hugged me back and I had to blink the dots away again. “Dear lord…” he whispered, “How will I ever be able to do this…” I looked up at his. My eyes had began tearing. It was such a happy, 30-second moment. He soon let go of me and took a step back. “I said I’m taken girl, go to your dragon!” The sudden cruelty entered his voice. What had happened, “I said go!” It took me a while to step back to the clothes. The tears ran down my face, turning sour in my mouth. He quickly ran up the stairs nearby and I was left alone.
***
When I finally was able to move again, I managed to get back to Varick and we where soaring before I knew it. I didn’t know where we were going, but I didn’t really care. I missed him so much. It had only been a half and hour since I last saw him, but it already felt like years. The fact he was taken didn’t matter to me. I just wanted to give him my heart. I couldn’t tell Varick either, for I had a feeling he may be one of our enemies. I was so confused. What to do… I guess I didn’t really have a choice but to stick with Varick and see where he was taking me. That soon took over my curiosity. I couldn’t take it anymore, “Ricky?” I called from his back, not attemting to make any sort of eye contact, “Where are we-” he cut me off. “Since when am I ‘Ricky’?” he asked very irritated. “Since now. So, where are we going?” I replied keeping the same tone. “I won’t answer that,” he said, still rather bothered. “Why not?” “I won’t answer to Ricky” “Why?” “Varick is my name. It’s important to me!” “And you can’t have a nickname, why?” “No matter what, I’m still not going to answer to ‘Ricky’,” “Fine then,” I said after a short pause, “Varick, where are we going?” I said emphasizing each word in infuriation. He sighed first, then began to speak, “We’re going to take a rest for a week, train you, go see Angel, and he’ll explain the rest.” I nodded, “Why rest?” I asked “You are rather forgetful aren’t you,” he said, sighing again, “You are in mid-transformation, remember?” I took me a second to remember completely. Being with Arcadio made me forget about everything… “You have your tail that should be almost fully grown, but your wings are going to take a bit, and your ears should be almost done as well, but they still aren’t attached to your nerves or brain much at all. Your real ears will fade as they attach to your nerves and brain. Your shoulder joints may be sore for a day while the wings grow some more,” he said, sounding like my science teacher the entire time. I brushed the top of my right wing. It felt soft at the top, and more like a birds feather once I reached the bottom of it with my hand. I could feel they where a bit larger then when we where with the nymphs. I watched as the forest returned and speed increased, slowly but surely. It was certainly more beautiful then the city and all the towns around it. I wonder if the stars shine better here. I remember going to this one camp in the summer. We could see so many magnificent stars our there. It was so captivating at camp. I would always ask my favorite chaperone if my friend, Jona, and I could go out and stare up at them. She wasn’t as interested in them as I was, but she was always a good friend. She would talk about her latest crush, and I mine. We would shout letters and name the first thing that came to mind. They where mostly similar though. It was funny how many times we ended up shouting, “Jynx’s”. I would also call out names. Whenever we called out each others crushes, we would both fall silent. There where always way to many things rushing in at once. Lucky me, we exchanged user names to this one website and can keep in touch. She must think I’m dead now. I was probably all over the news already. But there isn’t anything I can really do about it. It’s really depressing to think about it. I already miss her orange hair waving slightly catching the eye of so many… It’s really sad… The only good hope is now she won’t have anyone to pull her down. She is closer to finding her own path. I won’t have any influence on it, so it will truly be her owns. None the less, we will remember each other somewhere in our hearts in minds, however short it was.
The trees grew closer and soon they encompasses Varick and I. I grasped my clothes, which I had been sitting on to keep them from blowing away. I felt numb, and silent. Varick kept glancing at me, as I wondered away clueless of the worlds tense reality. I walked over to a small pond, that didn’t appear to go any deeper then two feet in the center, and only a few inches everywhere else. Arcadio took over my mind, whether he wanted to or not. I wanted to know every detail about him. Everything he did, everything he said, his favorites, his un-favorites. The only thing I tried to prevent from entering my mind was how he was taken by. Each second made me want him more and more, and hate whomever she was more and more until it formed into an un-ignorable hate and question. “Who was she?”, “How dare she!” The repeating phrases playing monotoned in my head again and again. Nagging at the back of my mind and pulling all the way up to the front. Filling my heart with blackened fluid, so much I could feel it cracking open. From the bottom, the golden shell peeled back, and black scratches scuffed the middle edges, keeping the mirrored image. The scratches scarring and burning inside. The invisible image developing before my mind, taking over my mind forever more. I felt it taking my heart away on angels wings. Slowly, but steady it flew to him. I felt a black, hollow hole where it once lay and I fell to my knees. The sand was like stone, and the water like fire. I felt the fire on my hands and the light against it burn my still pale skin. My hands slipped from under me, and the burning water stung against me face. It was reviving and murderous. It tasted like blood and hope. I found my hands again, and lifted my face from the water. The burning of the water faded and soon turned into ice. The spots returned to my vision and tears fell from my eyes. They fell into my heart, burning the wounds and darkening the scuffs. I rose to my knees and lifted my head to the setting sun. I closed my eyes to prevent the realities pain. The light stung where my tears left there mark, and I felt weight from the wind gather on my shoulders, weighting my head down to the water. The wind blew so strong, barely brushing my cheeks, but deweling in my soul. It swirled in the hollow hole growing in my chest. I grabbed at the wind, and pressed my hand against my chest, unable to find the beating organ that once was there. I cried out and watched as the beam of light from the sun, peeking from the trees, touched my hand, and face, The burning came and held its place. I cried louder as the burning of the water returned. The purity of it was so painful. I felt my body grow lighter and my hair begin to rise. The sky darkened all to quickly, by heavy clouds of rain. Lightning immediately began to flash and the rain replaced the burning. It patted at my skin, tarring me apart. It took my spirit into the soil, and I could feel the roses growing under me. To rapid, like a spell had been cast upon them. They bloomed with my agany, and there thorns felt sharped then any other. They dug into my skin and poisioned the beautiful symbol of love. Their color turned to a deep black with my tears. My vision was more blurred but the heavy rain flowing into them made me forget. The roses breathed their last breath. I began to feel the gravity forgetting about me again, and my knees lifted from the earth, away from the dead roses. I opened my tearing eyes to see a beautiful black one resting on the top. It intervined between me and the sky. I gripped the stem, but couldn’t find the pain from the thorns. I pulled it from the rest of the plant and looked at it. I twirled it once in my fingers and watched as it cut into my fingers. The thunder struck again and gravity wandered away. My feet rose from the water. The rain heavied and the water rose impossibly fast. It reached my toes, and stayed with me for a long moment. Rising, rising, higher higher. At this speed it would reach past the tree tops in minutes, but it stopped soon enough. I rose higher towards the trees tops. I gripped the rose so tightly, I thought the stem might break. I looked into the clouds and saw a faint rainbow somehow shining brightly though the heavy rain. My fin engulfed my legs as I was raised higher then the smaller trees. Then higher then the largest. I was brought to the center by this invisible force, and tuned onto my back. I felt the wind brush my shirt up, and watched as it took it away into the forest. I voluntarily slipped out of my jeans, and watched at the fell ungracefully into the water. The cold could not find me, though my bare skin was brushed by the wind and soaked by the rain. Floating in the middle of the sky, the rain grew stronger then I though possible. I felt numb as the tingling water made it feel as if I was drowning. It was so thick it became hard to breath. I gasped and choked, but it soon became easy to breath, though the water didn’t ease. My hair swayed freely, as if no gravity existed, nor the rain. The lightning flashed so close, I could have touched it if I wished. Yet I was not frightened. It flashed again, closer. Closer and closer it boomed, yet fear did not show. It soon hit my chest, pericing my soaked undergarmet. I didn’t scream, or feel the pain. The lightning struck again, hitting the black rose. The petals scattered, and the pain was felt. I gripped my chest where the lightning had struck and watched as my hands bled into the wound. I gasped from breath in the thick rain, unable to even see my own feet, or even my own hand resting on my chest. I gripped the stem, and refused to give it up. Wind gusts hit all around me. They tried to take the stem away. I drug it into my skin, and practically into my body. Gravity returned. The rain stopped. The pain was almost unbareable. I cried out and plunged into the water. The sand slammed against my back, and the clouds faded away. The sun was gone.
