Brief conversation about the economy of Gaia.
Wizler Joking Saint Just as a general reminder, price jumps are only as effective as the people who choose to buy at those prices allow them to be. Gaians always have the choice to refuse to panic and buy into the artificially increased prices that certain dealers try to use to inflate an item's cost. You have that choice. You, my fellow Gaians, are the ones who let these guys jack up the prices on donation items, because you go out and start BUYING them at these prices. The Mods and Admins have no control over the economy's prices, only YOU do. An item is only worth what a buyer is willing to pay for it. Only partially true. When people team up and buy each others items at higher and higher prices (or use mules to do that..), the rest of the people follow. Why? Because �DOES get sold at those higher prices. Gaians ofcourse don't know this if it happens, and buy/sell the item at the same higher prices since they know they are being sold/bought for more. And there you have it. Artificial inflation innocent gaians can't do s**t about. Sure, they can decide not to buy it.. but think. They WANT the item. So they WILL buy it. You can't blame the gaians buying the items for helping those people jack up the prices. What else do they have to do? Give up just because? :/ When you've quested for a while, you can always not agree with the price increases.. but you'll still buy it. Even if you aren't really willing to pay that much! This, since you paid that a lot of efford to get that far already. You get the feeling like "I HAVE to finish this, so I havn't worked my a** off for nothing"

Lanzer The recent server side changes involves the addition of a lot of database servers for handling the new forum code and also servers for handling downloads, plus the addition of new avatar servers. Meanwhile, the development on the new forum system is almost complete. Though there won't be a huge difference in the look and feel of the forums until the next web site re-design, the backend system will be ready to handle a lot of load and should be faster even with twice the amount of users online. The first game in Gaia Casino is just about finished. whee The idea for casino games had been around for years, and it's great to see it finally coming together. More games are in the works, and meanwhile development for Gaia Towns is still chugging along. Hopefully by AX we'll have something to show everyone. wink PS - Our new user sign-up had finally reached 2 million!
