Chapter two I just want to hold you in my arms Don’t push me away And don’t tell me that it’s wrong When it feels so right Ryuuichi was sprawled in the ornate chair his eyes unfocused, a wine glass dangling from his flaccid hand. A deep red liquid too thick to be wine was settled in the bottom of the glass. His black and maroon shirt hung open showing a pale linear muscled chest; buttons lay on the floor pulled off by impatient hands. He sighed the heat was getting to him. He usually loved summer nights they were so sultry and alive. He heard a soft sound come from his left and felt the presence of his pupil and long time friend. “Ahh so I see you’ve come back, Kaipo.” Ryu smiled slightly. “Was your night productive?” “Shut up.” Came the harsh reply, Ryu sighed softly. “It appears all did not go well.” He murmured more to himself than to Kaipo. “Really you shouldn’t hesitate to take what you want. I don’t.” he said with a smirk. Kaipo rolled up his sleeves and unbuttoned the first few buttons on his shirt to relieve himself of the heat then sat down with a huff in a chair at an angle to Ryu’s. “I’m not you Ryu” he gave Ryu a wry smile “and she’s not exactly the type to be forced into anything.” “Of course not Kaipo any woman you fell in love, would have to be exceptional. Not to mention strong willed.” “Yes, and now she’s marrying another man…” Ryu waited patiently for him to continue his elegant brow raising a bit when Kaipo didn’t. “It won’t help you any to keep it inside. You want to say something more so say it.”Ryu said languidly, his eyes closing in contemplation of his friends’ predicament; as he waited for the younger mans reply. “You know as well as I do that I can’t take what I want in this situation. It would only end up badly; for her and me.” Ryu sighed. “Yes the star-crossed lovers bit how I do loathe such bitter romances. Even as is such in the plays not all players know the complete truth hampering true loves purest intentions. Turning what should have been a beautiful blossoming love into an astringent tragedy. I prefer to dabble in dalliances; with no risk to the parties involved.” “I’d expect nothing less from the master of romantic incursions.” He replied dryly. Ryu chuckled at Kaipo’s comment, and then stood from his chair with the grace of a hunting cat. “I bid you adieu my friend, this heat is suffocating me. I believe I will go for a walk.” Kaipo nodded distractedly, already slipping into a pensive state over his current troubles. He didn’t bother thanking his mentor for leaving and allowing him to reflect upon the situation. Ryu knew him well enough to discern the fact that he couldn’t leave things the way they were. He had really messed up this time. “Why can’t I have what I want?” He murmured wearily. Outside a slight breeze stirred. It felt good to Ryuuichi, he left his shirt undone, letting it ruffle slightly in the wind. His smile was almost as disturbing as it was handsome. He had plenty of time to play before the sun would rise. “Tonight the moon will bathe a beautiful mademoiselle in resplendence before my loving eyes as I devour her wholly.” He released a contented sigh as he left his manor in search of said maiden. Ryon sighed, her parents were a little worried, and she hadn’t said anything that night. She’s had other hunts of course, but this was the one that had to be dealt with, upfront and personal, she did not know why. Most of the hunts she had gone on were for people of the town, people that needed to have the problem dealt with. “Auryon is everything alright?” her mother asked, as Ryon was coming out of the library. “Hmm, yes,” Ryon replied, but inside she was hurting. “I’m going to go outside and walk.” “It’s late, my dear, I’m not sure it is so safe for you to go out alone, there have been reports of a vampire.” Her father was concerned; entering the room, she hadn’t spoken more than one sentence since she came back. “I will be fine, father, I’ve taken the necessary courses to hunt vampires as well as witches.” She replied, and walked out the door, some books in hand. The cold air slightly chilled her, but it felt so good at the same time. It was nothing compared to the pain that she felt when she’d left him. She didn’t even understand why she was hunting him, as far as she could tell he had done nothing wrong. “Beautiful maiden would you accompany me?” She turned, she’d been so lost in her own thoughts she hadn’t heard the man. She cursed herself, she was always so aware of her surroundings. So why now would she let her guard down? He was gorgeous, she knew that much, even though the moon was just barely over head. He wore dark shades, she couldn’t help but feel the need to take those shades off his face, and gaze into his eyes. Suddenly she shook the feeling, she couldn’t feel like this, know what he was, she knew he was not normal, not mortal. Though mortal blood coursed through his veins, she could at least sense that. “Get away from me.” She hissed. “I’m not in the mood to be toyed with, Vampire.” He took off his shades and gazed at her. She was indeed beautiful. Her violet hair was tied back in a neat braid, down to the center of her back, her navy blue eyes gave off a spark of light, ahh so she was a hunter then. On her neck was a dark rose, as black as the night sky; entwined with rose was the snake, a dazzling silver color. “So you do know who I am, but alas I do not know who you are?” He took her hand and placed it to his lips. “You know I am a hunter.” She replied, but a light blush lit her cheeks. “And all I know is you’re a vampire, probably the one who has been terrorizing the town’s folk.” “Terrorizing, why mademoiselle you hurt my core, I do not terrorize mortals.” He spoke mockingly hurt. She turned away from him. “Unless you have a death wish, I advise you leave.” Ryu caught her hand, and pulled her close to him. She didn’t struggle. “Let me drink and I will leave.” “Never,” there was something familiar about him, there was a scent about him. “Let me go.” “Don’t fight it.” He whispered, and then suddenly let her go. “You’re her, aren’t you?” “What?” She asked, slightly confused. “What are you talking about?” “Nothing, nothing, ignore that I said anything.” he replied quickly. “Just go, but first those books in your hand, may I see it?” “What, why?” She didn’t really want to give him the books. These books were secret, not even her parents knew she had them. They were her secrets her deepest and darkest wishes. Kind of like her own diary but they were also poems from him, yeah they were kind of corny, but she’d kept them. “I would just like to look.” Ryu replied, with a sly smile. “I don’t trust you. How do I know that you’ll only look?” “You’re going to go burn them, aren’t you, so what good would they do me?” Auryon’s navy blue eyes widened. “How do you know?” “I know that they hold dark secrets, Ms. Hawkins.” “How do you know my name?” Her eyes widen even more, she always knew her prey, but never they her. “He’s foolish to let you go so easily.” He said more to himself then to her. “Please, Ms. Hawkins, excuse me, I must take my leave of you.” “Wait!” She reached out her hand, but he was already gone. “Who are you?” She clutched her books to her chest, how could she burn them, they were her sacred books. These were more important to her then even the books that she had read as a child. She turned around, facing the house, the moon was now full over head; a perfect orb shining in the sky. A soft sigh escaped her lips as she remembered when they had shared their first kiss. The moon had been full then too, but then they had been on a balcony. In fact her balcony, they’d almost been caught too. It was dangerous for them both, but he had come back right after her father had left. After a while they couldn’t keep to themselves, they would see each other for weeks. Then finally he left. She could feel her hand bleed with the pressure she was putting on them; especially from the knife pressure, that she had taken earlier from her pouch, when the man had first appeared. She hissed, gently she took out a bandage and wrapped it around her hand. “Why do you do this to me, Kaipo? Why do you still haunt me?” She whispered, she stared at the balcony. “I wish you would just leave me alone. But then again I want you to hold me close.”
