The Gaia Hypothesis
"The Gaia hypothesis states that the Earth is alive. It proposes that the planet functions as a single organism that maintains conditions necessary for its survival. The ancient Greeks called their earth goddess Ge, or Gaia. Gaia was Mother Earth, gentle, feminine, and nuturing, but also ruthless to those who crossed her."
