At midnight last night, my mother got a phone call from my cousin, Willie, age 13. He called asking if he could come over because he had apparently been hit on the head with a beer bottle, and didn't want his mom to worry.

I was awake, of course, and was all like eek when my mom told me.

Then my cousin came.

He had dry blood running down the side of his face, but the cut was nothing to worry about. He took a shower, and my mom called my aunt, telling her that Willie was safe.

Here's the thing, though. Willie claimed to have been at a party with his friends. That's not the story my aunt told.

You've got to understand. My aunt has a disease called lupis. It's just as bad as HIV or AIDs. She's a very nervous woman, very religious, and homeschools both my cousins, Willie and Harry. They're both stir crazy, because they don't get out of the house much. Willie has been especially difficult.

Willie ran away from home a week ago. He was gone for a few hours and it caused my aunt a lot of stress.

We all thought that Willie was just getting sick of having to stay inside. After lastnight, my mother and I had to reconsider our assumption.

After Willie came out of the shower, he stayed for an hour and then we brought him home. Willie went to bed almost immediately after he got there.

My aunt showed us the damage.

Willie had gone insane. He began throwing a fit when his mom told him it was time to come inside. He'd spent almost 14 hours outside on a playdate. He broke a pot Harry made for Mother's Day, kicked Harry in the stomach, then went into a closet. My aunt went into the closet and tried to calm Willie down. He pulled all of Harry's clothes off the hangers, but the hangers are wooden, and there was a nail on one of them. It hit Willie. That's how he got the cut. He also started hitting his head against the wall.

Things got really bad. He tried to strangle my aunt, he kicked her in the leg, and he punched her. He ran away and called my mother, telling her he went to a party and got hit on the head with a beer bottle. He got a ride from one of his friend's parents. Then he arrived at our house.

We stayed at my aunt's house until 4 am. Then my mom and I had to leave. Harry was awake--we got him a breakfast sandwich for him at Jack in the Box--he is such a good boy.

I didn't get to sleep 'til 6 am. I woke up at 12 pm.

It's almost like last night never happened. It was too unexpected.
