• Lasting Pain

    Different colors on my body,
All the bruises on my arms.
This is the price I always pay,
    When you cause me harm.

    In the early morning,
Or in the dead of night.
I never really know for sure,
    Except that it’s not right.

    You say you beat me,
    Because you care;
How I want to leave you,
    But I would never dare.

    You hit me harder,
    Harder every time.
    I cannot breathe,
    My heart starts to climb.

    The pain last forever,
    It won’t go away.
    Perhaps if you’d stop,
    Then maybe I’d stay.

    But the beatings continued,
    Never stopping or slowing.
    The price I was paying,
    And him never knowing.

I’m fed up with this life,
    I can’t take it anymore.
So I start a new life,
    And walk out the door.
