• I believe in the benefit of a doubt.
    I believe everyone is entitled to mistakes.
    I believe a person can do wrong
    And still at heart be innocent.
    I believe we must seek to understand each other
    While respecting each other’s inherent mystery …
    I believe that is very difficult.
    I believe trust is worth great risk.

    I believe I am afraid to show you this.

    I do not care what people think;
    But I do care how they feel.
    I do not seek approval;
    But I seek to make the world less painful
    In what small measure I can.
    I believe that the loving act is the right act,
    That the loving thought is the right thought
    And that no one should suffer for my comfort,
    Although I know that they do.

    I believe that loving is often easier than accepting love.

    I believe we are responsible for each other.
    I do not believe in flaming chariots.
    I believe you are the help given to me.
    I believe I am the help given to you.
    I will try so hard not to fail you,
    But I know that sooner or later I will.
    I believe I will be ashamed to ask your forgiveness.

    I believe I am cynical,
    But do not confuse cynicism with wisdom or maturity.
    I believe happiness is distinct from joy.
    I believe joy can live in sorrow.

    I believe that if souls remember anything finite in eternity,
    It will be laughter.
    I want to give as much laughter as I possibly can
    Before it becomes a memory for me.

    I believe that these ideas are good,
    But I do not believe that they make me good.
