Cartoon Treachery
In a flash of artful footwork
The villain is down
The wounded hero had persevered
Through flimsy plot twists
Survived the traditional taunting
“You cannot save your friend! [world]”
“All is lost, you are not strong enough, never were”
Taken the requisite almost mortal wound
And yet now stands above
The prostrate body of the villain
Who dies dramatically and
Awaits the evil lair’s explosion
A clean concrete death
With grand ramifications for the world at large
Perhaps accented with ketchup.
I saw the blow coming
My mortal wound, right across the stomach
The burning rip that emptied
My abdomen onto the dirty concrete floor
The man who knifed me,
My villain per say,
Cleaned off his blade and
Went away to his day job.
On this cold winter’s night
I lay clutching my organs
Remembering the glorious path that
Led me to this moment
The cause I championed
The people I thought I saved
And could only think of the movies
The cartoons driven by noble causes
Lies and faery dust!
My villain did not taunt me
With his past endeavors or
Some secret insight into my past
He killed me, plain and simple
The building did not explode
Rather, a few days later
I was reduced to a catalog of clues
I am dead. Dust and ashes. For nothing.
I died not in a dramatic pool of blood
But pathetically holding my innards
Feeling their slimy solidness and
Wishing I had not been a fool
Too late.
