One tentative step at dawn,
Slowly erecting the maker.
A step forever imprinted into her mind,
The first of many to come.
The small maker practices diligently,
Creating an everlasting dance.
A dance of the mind.
One sure, brisk step at noon.
Clear in the mind,
That has processed the same step for years.
A step at a time becoming a dance,
Slowly sweeping itself across the floor,
In celebration of a new bond.
An evolvement of what dawn taught.
One shaky step at twilight,
With a trembling, wrinkled hand.
The victim of Parkinson’s can dance no more.
Feet freeze in the cold of winter,
Frozen feet in the scorching heat.
The mind thinks of the dance,
It repeated at noon.
The steps won’t come out from the mind within,
Yet there the dance is done, all the same.
A helping hand reaches out,
An invitation to a dance.
Slowly at first, but then steady become the steps,
A slow soothing remedy,
To the curse that imprisoned her,
Like a helpless maiden in a tower.
A dance that cures,
A dance that alleviates,
All the pain that has been wrought.
A dance of the mind,
A dance of the body,
Becoming a neuro – dance.

Description:
I wrote this poem after I heard that taking tango lessons and practicing on a regular basis can help with the mobility of people who have Parkinson’s. This is dedicated to two of my relatives who have Parkinson’s, but mostly to my grandmother.
I've recently attended classes where the teacher taught me to incorperate these scientific ideas with poetry. This poem is a bit rigid, so feedback is wanted! - Date: 07/15/2008
