• INT. GYM.

    We see Phoenix and Craig are sitting on the bleachers. Craig
    tosses his cigarette on the ground.

    CRAIG
    How’d the talk with your cousin go?

    PHOENIX
    Eh- there’s no sense in talking to
    her. I almost forgot that she could
    be as hard headed as me sometimes.

    CRAIG
    Wow. Shocker.

    PHOENIX
    Yeah. I’m just as shocked as you
    are.

    CRAIG
    The joy of a family.

    Phoenix chuckles.

    (Beat)

    PHOENIX
    Oh, by the way, Jaxon came up to me
    earlier and he wanted to ask if you
    wanted to come on the run with us.

    CRAIG
    For the vehicles.

    PHOENIX
    No, for a pound of pot. Of course
    for the vehicles, dickwad.

    CRAIG
    I don’t know, man...

    PHOENIX
    Why not?

    CRAIG
    I’ve seen what those infected can
    do. The way they tore up Marcus and
    Juno...I don’t want to end up like
    that, Phoenix.

    PHOENIX
    I don’t want to end up like the
    infected either, but you still see
    me going out there.

    CRAIG
    With you it’s different. You have a
    reason to go out there, and it’s
    for your family. Me? What the hell
    am I going to risk my life for? A
    bunch of people who I don’t even
    know?

    PHOENIX
    For all we know we’re the only ones
    that can be left. We’re all you
    have right now.

    CRAIG
    Why are you pushing this so hard?

    Phoenix, noticing that he is, hesitates before saying what
    he was about to say.

    PHOENIX
    I’m not...I’m just saying, we could
    use the extra help.

    (Beat)

    CRAIG (O.C)
    Well, well, well...

    Phoenix looks ahead and sees Kierra walking towards them.

    CRAIG (CNT’D)
    Look who decided to join us.

    PHOENIX
    (to Kierra)
    Where’s your brother?

    KIERRA
    He’s on the roof keeping watch. Do
    you have a second?

    (Beat)

    PHOENIX
    (jokingly)
    "One"....

    Craig chuckles. By the look of Kierra’s face, we can see
    she’s not in a joking mood.


    INT. JUST OUTSIDE OF GYM.

    KIERRA
    Sarah told me you went off on her
    earlier.

    PHOENIX
    And?

    KIERRA
    She’s hurting real bad, Phoenix.
    She needs a talk, not someone who’s
    going to just scream at her.

    PHOENIX
    You’re being way too sensetive.

    KIERRA
    What?

    PHOENIX
    She’s being real selfish, Kierra.
    She didn’t care how ANY of us would
    feel to see her like that. I saw
    the look on your face. She
    literally broke our hearts into a
    million ******** pieces.

    KIERRA
    We were all hurt. Olivia and Emily
    didn’t even take it well. But she’s
    not in the right state of mind
    right now, and as a family, our job
    is to be there for her. We’re all
    she has left!

    PHOENIX
    Seriously? She pretty much proved a
    point that she didn’t give two
    ******** about us at all last night!
    She even told me she wanted to die.
    She doesn’t need us if she truly
    feels that way. She doesn’t care
    about ANYONE’s feelings except
    hers.

    (Beat)

    KIERRA
    She’s feeling the same way we did
    when mom died, if not worse. Both
    her parents are gone. When mom
    died, you were acting almost the
    same way she did. Not ONCE did
    anyone raise their voice at you,
    and not ONCE have we ever given up
    on you.

    (Beat)

    KIERRA
    No one’s perfect. That’s what you
    used to always say to me. Remember
    how you felt about lectures?

    Phoenix looks down.

    Short pause.

    KIERRA (CNT’D)
    Maybe you’re the one who isn’t
    considering any feelings...

    Pause.

    MICHAEL (O.C)
    HEY!

    Phoenix and Kierra turn to him.

    MICHAEL (CNT’D)
    We’re getting ready to leave
    soon...

    (Beat)


    INT. LOBBY.

    Damon, Jaxon, Olivia, Michael and Phoenix are getting ready
    for their run out into town. Xavier, Emily and Kierra are
    helping them.

    XAVIER
    You guys have everything you need?

    JAXON
    Yep. With just a little courage
    we’d be real good.

    OLIVIA
    Yeah, but we’re running low on
    that.

    EMILY
    Be careful out there, please.

    OLIVIA
    We will.

    DAMON
    Phoenix, what did Craig say? Is he
    tagging along with us?

    (Beat)

    PHOENIX
    Uhm, actually, he said he
    can’t...because...

    The lobby door opens and Craig walks in.

    OLIVIA
    There he is!

    PHOENIX
    Craig...

    CRAIG
    You guys got a weapon for one more?

    Phoenix smiles. Jaxon tosses Craig a handgun, and he catches
    it.

    JAXON
    Ever use a gun before?

    CRAIG
    I’m a fast learner.

    JAXON
    There’s 15 rounds. Use it wisely,
    since we don’t have much.

    CRAIG
    Yes sir.

    JAXON
    (to everyone)
    Alright, before we head out just
    remember; Aim for the head. Use
    your ammo wisely, the sound of the
    gunshots will draw their attention.
    Stay together, don’t let the
    infected get too close...and no
    one...gets left behind.

    They nod.

    JAXON
    (to the others)
    Have someone keep watch. Take turns
    if you want to. Can’t gurantee
    we’ll be back at a certain time.

    KIERRA
    As long as you guys come back safe.

    Kierra hugs Damon and Phoenix tightly. Emily goes and hugs
    Olivia.

    OLIVIA
    You sure you can handle taking my
    place?

    EMILY
    (smiles)
    Trust me, I have it all other
    control.

    OLIVIA
    I know you do.

    XAVIER
    You sure you’ll be okay, dad?

    DAMON
    As much as I want to promise you
    that, I csnt. But knowing you and
    Kierra are waiting for me here, you
    know I’m not going down without a
    fight.

    Xavier smiles and nods.

    JAXON
    Alright everyone...time to get
    going.

    Xavier opens the doors to the side entrance door.


    EXT. SCHOOL GROUNDS.

    Jaxon, Damon, Michael, Phoenix, Craig and Olivia all run out
    toward the two cop cars parked on the grass. Zombies begin
    to stumble toward them, screeching. Michael whacks a nearby
    zombie in the head, pushing it down.

    JAXON
    Come on!

    They all split up and get into the two vehicles.


    INT. LOBBY.

    Xavier closes the door. He stands there with Kierra and
    Emily, watching them drive away.

    KIERRA
    They’ll be fine...right?

    (Beat)

    Xavier just walks away. Emily and Kierra exchange looks, and
    Emily leaves the lobby. Kierra looks back out through the
    glass door.

    KIERRA (CNT’D)
    Please be okay...


    EXT. IN FRONT OF POLICE STATION.

    Zombies are scattered out around the building. The two cop
    cars pull up behind the bushes, hidden from the infected.
    Few zombies from on the road begin to stagger closer to the
    cars.

    Everyone gets out of the cars.

    MICHAEL
    Quick, we need a plan!

    PHOENIX
    Where’s the vehicles?

    JAXON
    They’re in the garage.

    DAMON
    Perfect. The path is almost clear.

    MICHAEL
    Won’t be that easy. We have to get
    in from the inside. Only way to do
    it.

    JAXON
    The keys are in the office on the
    first floor.

    The zombies stagger a little closer, growling and hissing
    towards them.

    Jaxon peaks up above the bushes.

    JAXON
    When we make a run for it, we get
    no more than a 2 feet away from
    each other. Attack only the ones
    who get to close. Ready?

    DAMON
    Let’s go.

    They all run out from the bushes, and run toward the
    building. Zombies rawl up and begin chasing them.

    JAXON
    Come on, hurry!

    They all continue running. Michael bashes a zombie’s head
    in. Damon hits a zombie in the head and Olivia quickly stabs
    it. They continue running.

    A sprinting zombie from a distance begins chasing them. It
    charges for Phoenix, but Jaxon uses his gun and shoots it in
    the head.

    They all run to the side door entrance. Jaxon tries opening
    it but its locked. The zombies stumble closer.

    JAXON
    Dammit.

    MICHAEL
    Stand back!

    Michael shoots the doorknob and it breaks. A few zombies get
    close.

    DAMON
    Phoenix, look out!

    A zombie grabs onto him, Phoenix pushes it back. Olivia
    stabs it in the head and it dies.

    JAXON
    Come on!

    Michael shoots two zombies down that got a close. They all
    get inside and close the door. Zombies begin banging on it.

    Michael and Craig hold it up.

    JAXON
    Get the desk!

    Jaxon and Damon hurry and push an office desk and push it to
    the door. It holds. Everyone breaths a bit heavy.
