"Hey, I'm not going to hurt you. Please let me in?"
Charlotte shook her head in disbelief. The person, he sounded like an adult, actually had the audacity to say that? What a moron! No one was that stupid to actually comply!
"I'm calling 911!" she shouted through the door, hoping it would make him leave. There was a pause.
"That's impossible. Your phone is down," he replied. Charlotte scowled.
"Not my house phone, I'm calling on a cell. It doesn't matter if you cut the lines or whatever."
Charlotte rested against her door, trying to figure out what to do. Her cell was dead. No one was home. And since this was a farmhouse, the nearest neighbors were a few miles away. She was for lack of a better word, S. O. L.
"Please open the door," he begged. "I actually may need your help."
The girl bit her lip. She knew what not to do...but at this point she was realizing how little it was helping her. Charlotte reasoned that the man didn't SOUND like a psychopath...
She stood up slowly, rewrapping her hand around the bat and taking a deep breath.
I seriously hope I'm not going to die, she thought.
"Alright, I'm opening the door," she declared. She reached out and unlocked it. Her hand slowly twisted the knob and Charlotte opened the door. What she saw, she had NOT expected.
A young, unusually cute red head stared up at her, dressed like a Viking. His sharp green eyes twinkled.
" Well, hello there! It's nice to meet you. You can call me John."
