"Momma I dont wanna be here no more, momma take me a way!" The little girl screamed in her sleep.
The little girl didn't even know her name, she was diagnosed with a mystery illness at birth. Gracie, that was her name....Gracie...she just couldn't remember it.
This illness caused her to forget the most simple things no matter how many times you told her, her name, how to walk, how to speak correctly was all lost.
She refused to leave the hospital, all her life she had been resting there. Praying for health, praying for a cure, praying for some realization of the disease. Besides, her friends were there, nurses and doctors and the other hospitalizedbchildren who came to visit with non-contagious diseases.
She knew her mother, Marie Helena, but her father was a blur. Whenever Mr. Helena came in she looked at him strangely, she knew that she was supposed to know him, but she shook her head in frustration and requested he leave the room on every visit.
Her dream. Every night she dreamt of the same thing, and, as expected, she could never remember it. She dreamt she was trapped inside of her disease, literally. Her disease became a room-white, cold, and with a smell of burnt bubblegum, sickly sweet. There were random splashes of grey and blood marroon, but by the end of the dream they had faded away.
She thrashed every night in her sleep, she was trying to move, trying to reach the paintcans that were right infront of her, trying to paint the walls, trying to learn, trying to realize who she was.
But she couldn't move, she didn't know why. She was stuck staring at the paintcans. Through the paint of every color imaginable she could splash the wall with vivid colors. And therefore, remember.
It was torture, she wanted to go away. To escape.
That's why one night she did. She left for something greater. You may say, "Poor Gracie, she was only six". I say, "Yay, Gracie. You're in Heaven, happy with your memories."
