A girl wandered alone across a vast, empty landscape.
She could see herself, but absolutely nothing else. The ground and sky were the same shade of cold, perfect white; Nothing marred its absolute perfection, not even her own shadow. She had no idea where she was going, or where she was coming from.
As she walked, hazy, shadowy figures began to appear in the corners of her vision. Off to the left was a blurry inkblot that could have been an animal; to the right, perhaps a building. Whenever she tried to get a closer look, however, they disappeared completely. The farther she walked the sharper and more frequent the figures became. Filled with curiosity, she continued forward. The shadows no longer confined themselves to her sides – they were everywhere now, pressing closer and closer. Still, they lost focus whenever she tried to concentrate on them. As their darkness began to blot out the white completely, she became afraid. She tried to turn back. With horror, she realized that she couldn’t; she could only continue forward. Odd, chaotic noises sounded faintly in the distance, growing louder as she was forced closer. She heard a loud, maniacal burst of insane laughter before everything went black.

I woke up in a sweat, still tangled in the last threads of my nightmare. I heard a faint hissing noise and peeked fearfully over the edge of my pillow. My radio seemed to be stuck on static – strange, since I wasn’t using it when I went to bed. I gathered the courage to climb out of bed and turn it off, checking the time while I was up; 1:40 A.M. I sighed and snuggled back into the covers, my nightmare almost forgotten. Only a lingering feeling of restlessness and unease remained.
