April 30th, 1945. The prelude to the end of World War II.
3:30
It was a small wedding. Adolf had figured that everyone in the map room was his most trusted allies; but I was there. My hair was cut short and bleached to a nice blond, and the contacts in my eyes were a deep blue. This was probably why no one questioned my presence, as I looked like the perfect human being. The normal uniform that I was covered in increased my chances of blending in. As he was finally married to Eva, and they shared a kiss, my stomach coiled and turned in disgust that the world’s most hypocritical, evil b*****d could find love. I reluctantly shared a quiet clap with the other people in the room, and the newly married couple beckoned everyone to the dining room.
I followed the small group, my eyes not betraying me in the slightest as my left hand ached for a kill, the fingers stretching momentarily and rubbing the black circle on the left ring ringer. As we arrived, I sat down at the long table, and in front of us were various breakfast foods. I ate silently, only speaking when spoken to, as I was taught in order to not betray my true face. Afterward, Adolf led Traudl Junge, his secretary into another room and locked the door securely behind them. I knew immediately that he was reciting his last will and testament, and after that the room became silent as we waited. Moving from my chair, I said goodbye to the people waiting for Adolf, and left the room to prepare.
14:25
I clicked the phone down. Adolf had finally allowed Helmuth Weidling to attempt breakout for an ammunition run. I saw this as my chance to follow Adolf as he was preparing to say farewell to the other occupants. I swiftly strode down the hall and entered the room, noticing the Goebbels couple and Martin Bormann saying goodbye to the new couple. I stiffened slightly as Adolf noticed my presence and beckoned me forward. I took a few uneven steps towards him and gulped silently as he leaned to whisper in my ear:
“Tell Winston that we will meet later. The Apple will be his in due time.”
My eyes widened in surprise that he would mention the Apple so freely! After quickly glancing at my rank, realizing that it was high enough to actually be trusted with this information, I slapped my arms together and bowed deeply. “Yes, my Führer,” I replied, my voice only shaking slightly as I straightened back up. “Good luck.” I spoke, nodding as my perfect Germanic accent shone through. I watched him and his wife hold each others hand tightly as they walked from the room, and I knew that they were retreating to Adolf’s study. It was almost time.
15:00
I was in my room; I kept it simple. No posters or anything to signify my unique presence, save for the insignia carved into the small desk in the corner. I started it out as a bold “A”, but as I carved down, it began to curve inward into a small dagger. I drew the thick line below it, making sure the tip pointed between the space in the “A”. The emblem was complete.
I removed the officer’s uniform, throwing it under the bed and retrieved the black suitcase by the desk. Opening it, I pulled out the white, black, and red articles of clothing. Slipping on the baggy white pants, I tightened the strings around my waist and tied it accordingly. I pulled on the brown leather boots, strapping the shin guards on as I wrapped the red sash around my waist. Pulling on the white robe, I strapped on the dark brown armor around my torso, and tugged on the thick brown gloves, covering the device on my left wrist. Finally, tying the strings around the gloves, I pulled the white hood over my eyes, the sculpted point that resembled the beak of an eagle rested between my eyes. Inside my head, the cry of the eagle screeched out and signaled the beginning. I flicked my left wrist, hearing the sharp click as the thin blade slid out of its hold and rested between my fingers. It was time.
