Part 1
THE TREASURE
Lorem sat down, he stroke his hand over the grass, and he saw the tracks of the animals that had walked here earlier that day. He stood up, and waited for the rest of his family to arrive next to him. He looked back, he saw them climbing up the cliff he just got up from. It was a quiet Sunday afternoon. The grass swayed in the wind, making the mountains even more peaceful. He sat down once more; he glared over the small town he lived in. In fact, it was more a village than a town. The inhabitants of Moana lived such peaceful lives, but what do you expect when you live in one of the most far away areas of Ararreac.
Finally they came where he sat. The small “expedition” contained his father, mother and sister. His sister where six years younger than him, but she still was just as tall as him. Lorem was 16. He had a long, slim body with muscles every here and there due to all the hard work he did at days. His father was a large muscular man; he worked in the local mines. His mother spent the days at home, cooking food and cleaning the clothes and the house. They were not a poor family, but not rich either. Lorem mostly chose to wear the cheaper clothes, as he would only make them dirty within five minutes anyway. Then it would not be that wise to use expensive clothes which were harder to wash out all the dirt from.
- So, what do you say Lorem, pretty good view from here right? his dad said.
- Sure is, I can even see the ocean on our eastern side!
- I see it too! Leanna, his sister yelled
- Who is ready for some food, his mother said
- We are, all of the said at the same time
They ate chicken, bread and some more food. Everything tasted delicious; Lorem’s mom was a good cook. After the meal, Lorem and Leanna ran out in the mountains. Leanna wanted them to look for wild animals, but very few creatures liked to be this high up in the air. If they were lucky, they could see a moose, maybe a wolf. All of sudden, Lorem heard a sound. Maybe Leanna also heard it, he was not sure.
- Did you hear that, he asked
- Yes, sounded like something fell in the grass, she replied
- I will go look at it
- Be careful, Leanna said with a sad feel
Lorem walked towards the sound, it became stronger. But then it stopped. He walked slower, crouching. The dried grass broke under his feet, but the ground swiftly changed from grass, to sand. He was so concentrated on looking down; he did not see the big rock that came in front of him. He looked up, revealing a small imp, about the size of a fist.
The small imp had something in his arms. But it was not the item the imp carried; it was how much bigger it was next to the imp. Lorem picked it up, but it did not seem to like being carried, and jumped out of his hands.
The imps treasure was a beautiful necklace. It was made of pure gold, and the shape was a dragon. The dragon held around something, a figure. It was like nothing they had ever seen before. The outlining was of silver, and the inside where made with the finest of all rubies. Lorem tried to touch it, when he did the necklace started to glow. It started to blink rapidly, but to stop as fast as it started.
- W-what was that? Leanna asked
-I have no idea, Lorem replied.
- That, my big friend, was a sign. You are one of the chosen, a true fighter of Ararreac, the imp said. It seemed like it was very happy
-But I’m only a normal person! Lorem was getting irritated.
- I’m no fighter; I can’t even beat my neighbor in a wrestle! And to tell you so, he is not a tough person!
- May be so. But if you carry this, and keep it to your skin at all times, your strength will increase over time. You will also become more agile and mentally strong, the imp was also getting impatient.
- I think you should accept it, Leanna said.
- It’s a rather unique gift, and think how much better Moana could be if you got all the thieves and beggars out of there!
Lorem had to think about it. He laid down, looked at the green trees that swayed in the wind. Even the short grass had started swaying. There was a small lake nearby, it looked deep. Lorem walked over to it. The dried grass cracked under his boots. The water was not as deep as it looked.
- Fine, I’ll take it.
- Wonderful, the imp was very happy now.
The imp gave him the amulet. Lorem felt much stronger. He looked at the big rock he almost crashed in earlier. Flexing his muscles, he picked it up and threw it to the lake. It landed with a big splash.
- Lorem! Leanna! Where are you? their parents were yelling at them
- We are here, Leanna said, they quickly ran back to their parents
- Where have you been? You have been out for ages!
- But we are here now, Leanna said with the same tone as before.
- And good is that, it seems like it will be a storm of some kind at our mountains. I can’t remember last time that happened!
Their dad was getting impatient; he wanted to get down as soon as possible.
The wind blew with unusual strength through the trees, and the day that have started so nice, were not that good now. They followed a river down, but the water was not as it used to be, slow and peaceful. But now, it seemed like it tried to get away from something. Lorem looked up, but there was nothing there. He held around his amulet, always checking if it was still there, but the chain around his neck were sturdy enough to keep him from losing it. Finally they got down, after climbing for about one hour. They were exhausted, and still they had a long way left before they were home. The wind howled through the treetops, and it started to rain some small drops. Lorem was thinking about how this wind would sound in the Harp Mountains, since the wind that blew through the caves made sound very similar to harps that were playing. Nobody knew why it was like that, some even believed that there lived people inside the caves which played harps. But, how would they be able to increase the sound when the wind blew so strong made higher noise than people could yell? Lorem was thinking that if he ever got a proper education, he would try to find out, even if he had to stay there for years. But so many before him had also thought of so, and many had tried. Most of them wrote letters, and sent them with the wind down, but they could never be sure if they ever came down from the mountains. Maybe they stuck in a bush or blew in the sea. The possibilities were endless.
Finally they arrived at their house, a light-brown cottage with a small door. In return, the door had a marvelous doorframe, made of iron and steel by their father. He had used five months to complete it, but it was worth the time. Every person in Moana had been astonished by the work, and tried to make the same themselves. Most of them lost inspiration, or were too lazy to complete the job. The inside was not too much, the main room had some chairs, a table and some shelves. A large woven carpet filled almost the entire room. In the easternmost side of the room, where the doors to the bedrooms. Lorem had his own, so had Leanna. Their parents shared the biggest room, Lorem and Leanna had small rooms. Lorem had a small carpet on his floor, his bed and a window. The walls were decorated with trophies, drawings and paintings. He also had a small desk with a chair, and a candle which provided light. Once he got inside his room, he undressed and went to his bed to sleep after that day of adventuring.
Part 2
NEW POWERS
Lorem wake up early next morning, eager to try his new powers. He took on his usual clothes, and the necklace. He tried to make as little sound as possible, but still the floor squeaked under his footsteps. Soon after, Leanna was in her doorframe.
- What are you doing?
- I’m going out, to try my new abilities, Lorem replied
- Can I join you?
- I see no reason why you may not to join
Once again, Lorem flexed his muscles, even though he saw no real use in doing so. Outside their main door, a giant boulder had been irritating them for years. Lorem and his dad have tried to move it many times, but always failed. With his new powers, he might be able to move it. He got a good grip under it, and lifted it. It was not as easy as he first believed, the boulder was very heavy. With a small roar he pulled it up, and walked to the edge of a cliff, where he dropped it down. Leanna came next to him, and they both watched the boulder crash down and destroy everything in its path. After about ten seconds it hit the water with a big splash. They could hear their father inside the house, he sounded scared. Maybe he was scared by the big splash or the noise that the boulder made when it crashed downwards.
- What was all that noise?
- Ehmm, um… Leanna were not sure what to answer
- And where did the boulder outside our front door go? their father was getting impatient for answers.
- Maybe a rock golem took it with him? That was not so wise, as there were no rock golems in the area where they lived.
- Rock golems? Here?!
- Uhm, yeah. It was probably nothing I hope, Lorem were not comfortable in this situation.
- Let’s hope so, their dad seemed to relax from hearing that
- What is that necklace you are wearing Lorem? It looks expensive; he came walking towards them, always looking at the dragon.
- Yeah, uhm, well I found it when we were walking home from the mountains yesterday
- Who would lose such a beautiful piece of art?
- Probably someone careless, Leanna answered very fast.
- Well, might be so. But you should go to the town and hear if anyone is missing it. Let’s go inside, moms making some breakfast.
Once again their family was eating together, but this time at least around a proper table, not just a woolen carpet. After the breakfast Lorem and Leanna went to the town, they had said to their dad they were going to look after the proper owner. Since they knew that Lorem was the owner, they went to the mountains instead. The wind blew strongly, but was less powerful. The mountain they went to were so high that there were no trees, but they could clearly see where they ended. In the far north they could see muskoxen in a large group eating. Even farther away, at the highest mountaintops there was some snow. Leanna wanted to go there, but Lorem held her back.
-Why can’t we go there?
- It would take us all day to walk there and it gets fast cold here in the mountains. We would probably freeze to death, or get some serious damage on our body.
- But, with your new powers you could be able to run there and carry me at the same time without any trouble, Leanna was very eager to get there, Lorem did not know why.
- Your probably right, it’s worth the try…
Lucky for Lorem, Leanna were not too heavy, but he would have been able to lift her anyways with his strength. He pulled her up on his back, and started to jog. Even then it went very fast, he tried to run as fast as he could; he heard Leanna scream of pure joy on his back, and he had to agree, it was a marvelous feeling to run as fast as he did. It did not take long before they sat at the mountaintop and looked back where they had stood a few minutes ago.
- Well, I sure can run fast!
- We have to do that more often Lorem, it was amazing. You should have seen the face expressions on the muskoxen when we ran past them!
Lorem looked back at where he last saw the muskoxen; they were very much farther away now, they were still running fast.
- Want to run through them again? Lorem sure liked the feeling of running now; he had not liked it too much before.
- Oh yes! Leanna climbed swiftly up on his back, and he started to run.
Once again the muskoxen started to run. But this time, they came towards them, not away from them! Lorem tried to turn, but they were too fast for him. He felt Leanna’s grip around him loosened, and he ran slower. But it was already too late; she fell of him.
-Looooreem! She yelled, before the muskoxen ran across her, and chased after Lorem…
