(Ch5)***(The Power)
About two days later Alaya woke up screaming. Her screams mingled with others who had just woken up. The nurses were frantically running around trying to calm and reassure the kids that went through in the first group. They succeeded in achieving their goal approximately two - three hours after the last kid had awakened.
Alaya quickly scanned the room for Justin and saw him laying on the bed next to her. He smiled weakly back at her. Alaya suddenly realized that she was hungry. She waved to the closest nurse and asked for something to eat. The nurse immediately started handing out pieces of toast with butter out to everyone who wanted one.
After everyone had had their fill of toast, the nurses led the kids into a huge room with lots of uniforms. It was only when the kids saw the uniforms that they noticed that they were wearing hospital robes. Alaya and Justin headed over to the Adult Mediums and started looking for their names. After they found them they quickly headed into a dressing room to change.
Alaya loved hers. She had always wanted a belly button shirt and flare pants. She also noticed, while looking at her reflection, that her eyes were emerald green, her hair was snow white and her uniform had her first initial on it. She ran out of the change room looking for a nurse to ask why the heck her hair was white and her eyes green. She almost bumped into a girl who looked similar to her except that her ears were pointed.
“Oh sorry,” Alaya said as she subconsciously reached up to feel her own ears, “Hey, have you seen a nurse around?”
“Yes, I think I saw one helping a girl over there find her clothes. My name’s Mistletoe Tall by the way.” The girl replied. Alaya introduced herself, said a quick thanks and went over to where Mistletoe had pointed. She quickly found a nurse and asked why her hair was white and her eyes emerald green.
The nurse replied that it was the effect of the circle thing, and also that this was her “ghost form” and that she had a ghost form because ghost DNA had blended with hers and to change back she had to focus on what her human self looked like. Alaya found it all very confusing but she thanked the nurse and went to find Justin. When she finally found him she told him everything that the nurse had told her. Justin found this equally confusing. Finally they were released to go back to their rooms. Alaya met up with Mairi back at the room.
“Hey you know how we’re not supposed to have pets here?” Mairi asked Alaya. Alaya nodded. “Well,” continued Mairi reaching into her bag, “I kind of broke that rule big time by bringing my pregnant dog Kiki.” Mairi asked Alaya not to tell and also if she wanted she could have one of Kiki’s puppies which were due soon. Alaya agreed not to tell and said that she would love a puppy.
